The hotel was better than I expected for the money for a city hotel. In fact the hotel is beautiful, a stunning building, excellent lighting and decor with attention to detail. The noise in the street outside with the trams starting early did wake me a couple of times. But this is not the fault of the hotel. The hotels location is perfect for the station and bus station, the castle, shops and restaurants all are a short walk away. I would def stay there again. The breakfast was perfect as in the pictures of what we chose. The staff were all helpful and very kind.

The mattress could have been better, this was in a single room though as my friend also had her own single room. Couldn’t ask for a better room which was clean and excellent decor. One down side is no lift and steep stair case to the rooms.

As we are in our 70's we had requested a lower floor. We were allocated Room 3817 on the first floor which was perfect for us. The room was very spacious, as was the bathroom which had a large, deep bath as well as a walk in shower. We also had view across the river. The staff are a great asset to this hotel, all were very pleasant, chatty and attentive. Nothing was too much trouble.

Because there are no lifts, I would only return here if I was guaranteed a first floor room. Due to slight mobility issues, I would be unable to climb to the second or third floors.

The location was excellent for the train, tram, bus and walking. The station was less than 10 minutes away but you could not hear it. The castle was about 20 minutes walk or less. The staff were friendly and helpful. We did a day trip (prebooked) to the highlands and could have walked to the departure point in about 20 minutes however, as it was an early start the hotel staff booked a taxi on our behalf which worked well.

The breakfast was nice. The top dish being the Scottish stack which was enjoyable but did not want it more than once.. Would have had breakfast more if there was a cooked breakfast (eggs, bacon, sausages, tomatoes, mushrooms etc) available.

I got a room upgrade, which was a nice surprise, and the staff was always friendly and helpful. I left my bag at the hotel 2h before check-in and when I came back, it had already been brought into my room. I stayed for 3 nights and the location was central enough for me to explore Old Town and New Town on foot, though I acquired a lot of steps. The room was nice and clean (as long as you didn't look at anything too closely) and I personally had no problem sleeping in the bed. The view from the upgraded room was great (see pictures). There is some sort of bar (?) right outside the window, so sometimes you could hear semi-loud music playing. One night I thought I would need ear plugs, but the music stopped right when I went to bed. Overall everything I needed for my trip.

Although on arrival there was an issue with the room, the staff were nothing but friendly and attentive, providing us with tea etc and a complimentary room upgrade when the issue was proving difficult. The room was clean, homely and comfortable with excellent views. The staff proceeded to be extremely kind and friendly with the young boy (blonde and tall, we didn't catch a name sorry!) even rushing to hold doors open for us and guiding us to our room etc. The location was directly across from the bus station and a stones throw away to almost everything we wanted to do on our visit.

The stairwell is a little echoey so we could hear people moving around in the morning but that has been my experience in most hotels so this was barely a complaint.

It is full of character from the moment you walk through the front door, and our room was the most spacious room that we’ve ever stayed in, and we’ve stayed at lots of different hotels in the cities, and all around Scotland. We were also given an upgrade, which included the en-suite having a large bath, and the bathroom was absolutely immaculate! The whole room was immaculate, and very spacious with a large wardrobe, with a good amount of wooden hangers. The bed was large and very comfortable! I think the room cost around £275 for the night, but it definitely felt like a luxury stay. I paid a lot more to stay at The Witchery in Edinburgh for one night, and it wasn’t anywhere near as comfortable!

Amazing location, close to bus station, which was really handy, especially as staff are so kind to look after luggage. Very quiet, warm and spacious room with view as an upgrade. Heating fully adjustable. Finally very comfy pillows, two per person. Blackout curtains and an amazing bathroom with a brilliant shower. Massive and comfy bed and great choice of teas and coffees. Staff were all so friendly.. We did not try breakfast but the menu had a good choice.

Nothing really, but it took me a, while to figure out how to open a window and which one, so a sign with instruction would be handy.

The location was ideal. And they took my bag to my room and held it again for free until my train home. The staff were wonderful and friendly! The room was clean and the view was stunning. It had a small shower which again was clean and with good water pressure. They had a selection of tea and coffee and the bath products were really nice.

I got a free upgrade which as lovely as it was as the view was stunning but (and no slight at the hotel or its staff) with no lift to my floor and my newly acquired injury that was a lot of stairs 🙈. After the tattoo I went to get a sit down and coffee before tackling the hike to my room in the loft but the bar was shut so I went to my room. Tried to call down to ask to book in for a breakfast and a fork for my ramen but after several attempts to call down met with nothing but engaged tone I wobbled down only to remember the fork 🤦🏻‍♀️. But I would highly recommend a stay here.

- Rooms are not very big (considering I had opted for one of their more spacious rooms), but not a major issue for short stays - Staff is friendly but could be more attentive to guest requests. Case in point: My room TV was not working on Day 1. I requested them to take a look at it and it was indeed faulty. They promised to get it fixed the next day (and even offered free breakfast as a compensation), but it was never fixed until I complained again on Day 5. - Breakfast is quite minimal but probably OK for a small hotel. Was looking for english breakfast options which were there but quite limited. - It was a pleasant stay nonetheless but hopefully if the above aspects could be improved, it would be even better.
