I've been a guest for a while.-- The staff are excellent and work hard to attend to the needs of all customers. The business closes at 9 pm, but staff will often stay late if they know someone was delayed, to help ensure that traveler has a place to stay. They will make the extra effort, to the best of their ability, to make a guest's stay as nice as possible. Since Hostels have limited space and resources, that results in reduced costs for lodging of travelers; so there is that give & take to it. With this in mind, the staff & management strive to make the best of the situation.
The things I did not like mostly have to do with other guests not respecting the rules or staff. The behavior of others is difficult to control, so it should not be a bad mark against the DC International Hostel. Staff & management certainly work to mitigate this, and I think it's understandable that with the daily change in travelers, it takes a lot of effort to maintain the peace. Once the staff is aware of a situation they will work to resolve it. But, you have behavioral issues all over, so it's nothing new.

I don't know how they did it, but the hostel smelled amazing when I came in. There was cleaning of the unoccupied beds constantly, you were provided sheets, beddings, and towels, and there's also an iron & ironing board in the kitchen.
The hostel bathroom was not perfectly clean, but that's to be expected, and privacy in the restroom was lacking. In the kitchen, there was nowhere to get fresh drinking water, and the Wi-Fi doesn't work in there.

I feel the pop machine and the lock boxes in the ground floor kitchen should be repaired so that tenants can lock up valuables. Security is limited which, given we all sleep with three strangers, could be improved. I go to a gym and they have lock boxes that one can enter their person password into and can open it whenever they need to. Given there are about 30 beds, a locker with 35 locked doors would do the trick.
Not much. It was great and I would return again in the future.

I was in room 103, Hostel 1. Had a good experience, but seemed to have a roommate that acted like he owned the place (my guess is he was an only child and didn't know how to "share space" in common). Bathroom was nice, seemed recently renovated, though the hot water was a bit too hot--temperature seemed set to 'hell'. And it was encouraging to get to know some of your front desk staff. Shawn was welcoming upon arrival and helpful even when I bugged him and his shift was over. I think the other guys name was Kido(?), who worked the weekend. He was alright too. He showed me where the cleaning materials were for water overflowing from the shower, very helpful for me, I have a disability and get easily triggered with anxieties that land me in the hospital, so small things like this are extremely helpful for me. Would love to talk to the investors for this place as I would love to turn my mom's place into something like this.
Roommate that thought he owned the place, needs to learn more humility before using hostels. He should have more compassion for people who have disabilities.

The location just a block from the subway and a public library, with shops, cafes and restaurants also nearby is ideal. Check out the Ethiopian cusine and Dacha, the beer garden with an alluring mural of Elizabeth Taylor on one side of the building. Also Compass coffee shop across the street from Dacha. Great place to take your laptop and work There is a Giant grocery store just three blocks away . There's a nice simple kitchen and full bathroom. The showers are great --hot water and strong water pressure, which you don't lways find. Laundry is on-site, anoher plus. Its kept extremeoly clean and fresh smellng. The staff ois helpful.
Nothing! It's a fairly modest no frills place to rest, not to hang out. The rooms on the first floor, with two bunk beds that aleep four don't have windows, but you can crack the doors safely at night for air. For some it might seem a little cramped. You really can't beat the price. One warning, hough: The place closes in the early evening (around 8 pm) until 10 am the next morning. You really have to arrive before the or make arrangements for someone on-site to poissible check you in after hours. Don't assume it's open 24-7.

It's location is less then 2 blocks from Metro with a 7-11 one store down. Cheap food
I can be booked, must book online and if you book ahead of time. It's a good thing to understand the living conditions of a hostel. 2 bunk beds per room room share with other travelers

Staff are excellent, especially the cleaning lady.
Messy and inconsiderate guests. If any other guest has a problem with this place, then it's usually because of other guests. So any complaints of that nature one might see posted are not about the property.

No complaints. Great location, Very clean, fresh smelling hostel. Best showers of any hostel in this area. Laundry on site. Helpful staff.
Nothing. People who complain don't realize the value they're getting for the low rate, which is even lower if booked online. It's not a packpacker, hang-out party hostel. Mainly more mature guests in town for a specific reason.

The only problem I had was a sprained right foot and asked but was not given bottom bunk accommodation. There was a bottom bunk and was informed that that bunk was booked even though bottom bunk is not an option on booking.com. Paul Farrow, Jr. G7
