Kindness of staff, incredible location, accessibility to onsen (tattoos allowed), amazing breakfast. We were with our almost 2 year old son who loved it. The staff was very attentive and friendly and Mitsumi in particular was lovely with us.

I think this is that kind of hotel i will never forget. Is incredible stay in a Japan house from 1831, with the same tradition. The room is huge, the staff is super lovely, Akary is our room assistent and she is soooo sweet. The room is beautiful, the hotel is beautiful, and the bed, UFFF i wish have this bed in my house in Brasil. If im a person who lives close from Kyoto, i will always save money and spend a weekends in this hotel. This is a super relaxing hotel. TOTALLY RECOMMEND FOR A RELAXING WEEKEND.

The price is super expensive. Ok this is a super special hotel with a lot a staff, but is expensive, the dinner, the breakfast (im do not take, but if i, will cost a lot of money). The location is ok, but is not in the middle of the crowd. If you want stay in the old town you can found hotel around there. The TRUE is: it was my first time in Japan, in Kyoto. If you want know the city, walk around and if you will not looking for a relaxing hotel who you will spend your time there, im not recommend this one. This hotel is a perfect hotel to STAY there, not to meet a new city. I choose this one because was my husband 40th anniversary and we was looking for a special hotel, and for this, it was perfect.

Easily the highlight of my short stay in Kyoto. The staff speak English and their hospitality made the whole experience special! I loved the yukata and ended up buying one at their souvenir shop! Unfortunately, I had to cancel my kaiseki dinner due to health issues, but I enjoyed the Japanese breakfast. And the bath was just perfect for relaxation. Oh, and the Ryokan is super close to the subway, just 3-4 min of walking. I made tons of photos and good memories. I am definitely staying here again next time I am Kyoto.

Nothing. It was simply magical!

Our first ryokan stay was a fun experience for the family. We enjoyed everything from sliding across the slippery tatami mats and polished wooden floors in tabi socks to dining in yukatas and soaking in the public bath. The elaborate meals were delightfully presented by Akari, our very sweet and super-efficient host. She made us feel very much at home.

It was too short a stay and we wished we could have had a tour of the entire ryokan, to peek into spaces like the kitchen from which so many trays and little plates of food magically appear. It would be fascinating to know more about the architecture and stories of this very pretty place.

Our Seikoro experience was a beautiful, intimate way to explore a more traditional Japanese lodging experience during our short stay in Kyoto. The room we had for our family of 4 was very comfortable, with two western-style beds (in a smaller side room) and two futon-style beds that the room attendant made up each evening in the main room. The futon beds are definitely firm, so good to expect if you are accustomed to a softer bed! The breakfast allowed us to choose from Western or Japanese style. Our boys (ages 9 and 11) chose the Western style both mornings while parents got the Japanese style. Both were delicious, with different elements both days. The public baths in the hotel were peaceful and relaxing. We also had the kaiseki dinner, which was absolutely delicious, and an ideal way for us to experience that style of dining with our kids, since it was more relaxed to have in our own room than trying to take them out (fine dining within a private room setting). The location of the hotel was great, and it was about a 25 minute walk to Kiyomizu-dera, which opens at 6am and allowed us to walk to early before returning to Seikoro for the lovely breakfast.

We stayed at Seikoro for my wife's birthday, and I couldn't have asked for a better place in Kyoto to celebrate. The Ryokan is absolutely beautiful and magical, and the staff couldn't do enough to ensure that we were comfortable and happy at all times. Our room attendant Tomo was beyond excellent and was always there when we needed her, and gave us privacy when we wanted it. She (and the rest of the staff) always answered our questions and even went off and did more research for us on what was available/open so that we didn't waste our time trying to visit attractions or shops that might not be open that day. They even threw a surprise birthday celebration for my wife when we had the Kaisaken dinner on our first night. After we checked out, asked for a taxi to be booked to our next accommodation, and when the staff discovered we had left something in our room, they found the address we gave for the taxi, and hand delivered the item to our new accommodation along with a lovely hand written note. Top service!

This was the highlight of our trip to Japan! The service was so attentive, food was delicious (include at least one dinner and breakfast in your stay, you won’t regret it!), baths were extremely clean, rooms very spacious and comfortable with a view of a peaceful Japanese garden, and location was perfect to walk along the cherry blossom lined canal. Walking distance to many tourist activities (20 min) to Kiyomizu Temple, Maruyama Park, etc. you can walk to downtown Gion area, and I preferred not being smack dab in the middle of Gion which was very busy and crowded. This was the perfect in between. Wonderful and will come again the next time I am in Kyoto.

The service was absolutely incredible. The staff make you feel so welcome and are impressively attentive (and quick!). I've never had service like this anywhere else. When we pulled up, the staff already had our bags and were running them inside before we'd even stepped out of our taxi! They serve you tea and a little sweet when you get to your room, and also when you get home after a day of sightseeing or whatever else. It's amazing! Miaru (spelling?) our room attendant was so kind and made us feel so at home. The staff is all in kimono, its beautiful. We could see the garden from our room. THE FOOD WAS INCREDIBLE. You should get dinner. They serve you 8 courses in your room and it's so good. The breakfast comes to your room in the morning! The onsen public bath was great as well, it's so nice to have a soak after walking around all day. We loved everything. Thank you to everyone at Seikoro!

We just wish we didn't have to leave!

This place is amazing!! It is a lovely place to stay plus a true traditional experience. You feel like you have stepped through time and experience history with the traditional decor and futons as well as the peaceful garden and relaxing onsen. The staff is phenomenal!! From the minute we arrived to the moment we left we felt doted on, like we were royalty and the only guests. We advise you to set aside some time to experience this beautiful place - don’t just drop your bags and leave. The staff greet you in traditional garb, bring in your bags and give you sandals, explain the layout/breakfast/pajamas, and bring you tea. They are so kind and calm and happy to help us have the most enjoyable stay. It was one of - if not THE - best parts of our trip!!

We were there in winter so had to use the space heaters in the older bathroom, but it wasn’t a problem at all.

Seikoro is such a gem and we loved the traditional Japanese experience. The staff are exceptional and our beautiful room attendant was so lovely and attentive. We were given lots much needed help re where to go and organising of taxi etc which was much appreciated. The dinner and breakfast was really delicious and a great experience in its self. I do think one night is worth it as such a treat.

The Ryokan is showing its age and even though it is super clean I think it is looking quite old and the garden is original I presume but unfortunately not a pretty garden .
