The host is extremely friendly and helpful. I'm pretty sure he runs the place by himself and he does a great job. The facilities are beautiful: traditional look, sliding doors, antique furniture and decorations, tatami mats, heated floors, large family bathtub room with auto-filling tub large enough for 2 people (private bathroom in the room too). If you want the traditional feel this place delivers. Great location near transit and many restaurants. Nice riverside walk about 2 minutes away. Lots of supplies in the shared kitchen area: dishes, cutlery, coffee, mineral water, some spices and sauces, even sake you could try. The host provides a little instruction book that answered all the questions we had (for example, translated instructions for remote controls, recommendations for places to go, etc.). As a final note, the host even drove us to the train station when we left! We hope to stay here again!
The only downside we could think of for this place is that due to the style of building sound carries: you can hear other guests. Any place with this kind of design will have the same problem though, so I think you just have to be okay with being quiet and hope other guests show the same respect. As an after thought, it would be nice to have some microwave safe dishes and a tray for the toaster over to make heating up food easier.

We loved our stay at Hazuki Kyoto! The location was perfect. A 5 minute walk to Kiyomizu-gojo station on the Keihan line. This provides great access to Tofuku-ji temple (a must), Uji and Demachiyanagi station for the connection to the Kuruma - Kibune walk. As Kyoto gets more crowded and busy these are great spots to escape the crowds. Top tip - get out early to enjoy Fushimi Inari. If you don't mind walking Kyoto Station is an easy 20 minute walk away. Nishiki market also very close by. The owner of Hazuki Kyoto is a superstar, very friendly and helpful. He organised our bags to be transported to our next travel spot. For travelers new to Japan, Yamamoto Transport can be a life saver to get heavy luggage around your travel spots. We had a bag transported up to Hokkaido, took 2 days and only cost ¥2,500. We have visited Japan, Kyoto numerous times and always use Yamamoto Transport. The room was more spacious than we thought it was going to be, clean towels every day, room was spotless, beds comfortable, great shower and 2 big windows to open and let the fresh air in. Hazuki Kyoto is on a quiet street so could leave the windows open at night. Air con available but we didn't need it. Yes the walls are thin but all the other guests were quiet and respectful so was not an issue. This place is beautiful and a must stay in Kyoto. We would definitely stay here again.
We have to leave 😆

We absolutely loved staying here. The owner was very communicative and was around during the day if we needed anything. He also had a gorgeous, cheeky Shiba dog who hung out at the hotel during the day and brought us immense joy when we returned to the hotel weary after a day of travel. Locating and accessing the property was easy on foot - we were advised to use a taxi service, although most taxi drivers actually won’t take you all the way to Hazuki Kyoto as the street is too narrow. Public transport and google maps was absolutely fine. The building itself is comprised of five guest suites over multiple floors, including a very large bath that you could reserve and a shared kitchenette. Our room had effective under-floor heating which was easily adjustable via new control panels on the walls. There were traditional floor mattresses on tatami mats, floor cushions, a functional bathroom with a shower, and a western-style dining area with table and chairs. We found the room (including the beds) extremely comfortable - the only thing we struggled with (as Westerners) was not having a sofa or armchair in which to cosy up and read a book in the evenings (although the appeal of Hazuki Kyoto is embracing Japanese-style living anyway!). We used the large bath twice; it was very comfortable and very hot. We didn’t cross paths with any other guests during our stay, although being a traditional Japanese house, there was minimal soundproofing. Other guests themselves were very quiet, but the sliding of doors or unclocking the front entrance was rather noisy. We weren’t awoken by it - but if you’re a light sleeper, bring some earplugs. The location was excellent. Within 20m of walking were an abundance of cafes and restaurants, the Manga Museum, and Nishiki Market. A 20m train ride took us to the Inari Gates, Nara Deer Park, and many beautiful temples and shrines. The owner kindly drove us to the train station the day we checked out, and gave us a warm goodbye.

It was wonderful experience for me and for my family. The design was increadibly beatiful and simple. We really felt the traditional japanese housing from inside to outside. Not just the house but the neighborhood was also quiet and wonderful. When you get out from house you step on a beatiful tarditional housing area with an old river next to it. Hazuki kyoto is not like a standard concrete building with interiors covered with japanase style. It is itself trditional ryokan from inside to outside. We loved it. The owner is a great man and we also loved him. We came to checkin late and he was out because he should have taken one of his hotel guest to hospital. He left right messages and right notes for us to checkin flawlessly. And we did. But he felt deeply sorry for this to happen. Even though It was totally ok for us. He apologized many many times. He presented gifts to us, to my son. We are deeply honored by him and his hotel and his country. I would definetely recommend to anybody who plan to go to Kyoto By the way There was ac, floor heating, beatiful and large private bathroom, room was also clean and enough for three. Close to convinient stores and metro station.
we loved everything

Very homely yet professional total 5 rooms and each room gives a traditional Japanese fit. Washington facilities available with free washing machine, a microwave, a toaster, fridge, and dishes were provided like a home ! The owner was a wonderful human being who even went ahead and extended further support in guidance on where to visit and how to get there. There was a doggo sweet Shien who visited with the owner and was excellent experience. Preferred by foreigners and we as a couple from India stayed. Very happy that we selected this hotel. Many restaurant close by which are open even beyond 9. Restaurants nearby offer foreign and Japanese food and electric atmosphere ! Very close to the metro lines and near a river ! Amazing hotel feels like you’re at home !

This place was a wonderful surprise, traditional ryokan-like inn with a big and beautiful room, which felt more like a small museum than a city-centre hotel. Old timber, traditional Japanese tatami, slippers and futon with a view on a pretty little Japanese garden. The owner was extraordinarily kind, and knowledgeable about the area. Offered to help with booking anything we wanted to visit and rushed to the resort to let us in because we showed a bit earlier than expected. This is not a fully-staffed property which makes it more cosy and human. The owner speaks good English which was extremely useful for us. The location is good, a 5 to 10 minute walk from the metro line and close to the river and restaurant. It's situated in a traditional and quiet Kyoto street. This added so much magic to our trip. Strongly recommend!

We had a lovely stay at this ryokan in Kyoto! It has a long history, and it was a new experience for us to sleep on futon beds in this traditional Japanese setting. The room was spacious and nicely decorated. The ryokan is situated in a calm street and on good walking distance to restaurants and the closest subway for visiting attractions of Kyoto. It was also very close to the beautiful riverside. Our host took very good care of us, gave us good recommendations and even drove us to the station on our last day. His English is very good, and he always responded very fast to messages. Thank you so much for these memorable days in Kyoto!
There was some construction work going on in the street on the opposite side. If you are discovering the city in the daytime, this won’t bother you at all.

Takasen-san, the owner, went above and beyond to make sure our stay was enjoyable. The heated floor was godsend, especially after coming back from a cold, rainy walk. The Ryokan is located by the Takase river and only a few block away from Kamogawa, and 5 min walk to the Gojo Keihan station. The neighborhood is quiet and pleasant.
This is a traditional Japanese ryokan where most of the living takes place on the tatami floor. For those who are not used to this type of living, it may be hard to get used to. Might be helpful to have a couple benches for people to put stuff on.

Loved our stay here! The owner was very helpful and friendly. Our arrival was a couple hours delayed and he kindly waited for us to welcome us/check us in. Easy communication via WhatsApp should you have any questions/concerns or even want some Kyoto recommendations. We enjoyed the beauty and charm of the building. The walls are thin so everyone is encouraged to be respectful and quiet throughout your stay which we were fine with. And the floor futons were extremely comfortable!

Spacious traditional Ryokan in quiet street. Under floor heating was amazing for the winter cold. Takase was so helpful and lovely. Bathroom was spotless clean. There was a separate heated bathtub on the ground floor to soak in after long days walking and exploring. 5 mins walk to local train station or bus to explore Kyoto.
The traditional futon beds are not suitable for people with back and hip issues.
