Very helpful staff, great location and nicely appointed and large rooms. Bathrobes and decent sized towels in my room, which was lovely. The Bluetooth ceiling speakers were a bonus.

No hairdryer in my room. It's a small thing but as an international traveller I don't pack one. I likely could have asked for one, but couldn't be bothered.

Here's a tip about room and bed types - they call things differently in some countries. I learned this, and now I will ALWAYS check with the hotel directly. Even if you've booked through Booking.com, it makes sense to check directly with the hotel independently. And be specific about what you require. They may not understand that you're expecting a certain type of bed arrangement, even if it is listed as your preference - the words have different meanings. And you shouldn't have to pay an extra amount for a different type of bed. All it requires is a little direct communication to understand fully. I'm not faulting Booking.com on this, but I am hopeful that descriptions could be amended to reflect the reality of a situation.

The location of the hotel is fantastic for everything. All the staff went above and beyond being helpful - it was my 40th birthday during our stay and nothing was too much trouble. We ate in the restaurant both nights and the staff were fantastic at amending my order for my needs. The front desk ordered us a taxi for our trip upto Leigh for a day at the Royal yatch and the taxi firm were brilliant too - I prefer hotel “approved/siggested” firms to finding one on Google when I’m away from home.

Nothing - the location is fabulous; the staff are friendly; the restaurant was lovely.

We had an amazing stay celebrating our babymoon! On arrival we were told we were upgraded and when we opened the door to the room we were blown away. The standard of the interior and decor was brilliant and we had a coffee machine and two TVs! We had a lovely congratulations message with macaroons. We drove and the hotel offers 20% off parking which made the cost very reasonable. Nothing was too much to ask. This hotel we will be coming back to and will be telling all my friends and family about. If you are in doubt you should book this place!!!

That we had to leave

The location was SUPERB! Unbeatable. The staff were lovely, lovely, lovely. The decor was beautiful! The Grand Cafe restaurant was excellent. The lobby is delightful with a cozy fire, complimentary hot and cold drinks, and the daily newspaper.

We had to request new sheets, which should have been standard protocol. The hotel was a bit too dimly lit for my comfort, to be honest. The outrageously expensive breakfast was reeeeaaaallly disappointing. A basic Marriot hotel in the US offers a complimentary breakfast buffet more generous and appetizing than this luxury hotel where we paid for breakfast, but with so many great cafes a short walk from The Scotsman there is no need to eat here. We felt the artwork (all eyeless people everywhere) was really creepy...but, despite these few disappointing issues, we loved the hotel and wouldn't choose to stay anywhere else in Edinburgh! HIGHLY RECOMMENDING it to everyone.

Pretty much everything, lovely building, warm, welcoming, great location, nice room with excellent bathroom, everything you could need in there, whiskey on arrival, good mini bar, coal fire in reception, quiet, nice bed etc etc

The parking is a little far away and there were roadworks which meant I got very lost, but sorted it out eventually with help over the phone. The restaurant and bar closed a bit early in the week.

The location is great, especially the elevator up from the train station exit. Staff were very friendly, and I appreciated the water and whisky left in the room. Bed and pillows were very comfortable. Room service breakfast was prompt. Oh, and highly recommend checking out what movies are being shown at the cinema at the hotel - what a treat!

The bathroom floor is pretty but SUPER slippery - I actually fell the first time I walked in and bruised my knee. Also, of the two bars on property - The Press and The Hide - neither appeared to be open when I visited. Finally, if you're counting on having a GHD hair iron in the room, those are offered only in suites.

The Scotsman Hotel in Edinburgh exceeded our expectations during our week-long stay. The central location made exploring effortless, with the iconic Royal Mile just steps away, offering easy access to Edinburgh’s historic and cultural highlights. Overall, The Scotsman Hotel delivered an exceptional stay with outstanding accommodations, dining, and convenience. I highly recommend it to travelers seeking both comfort and prime city access.

There were a couple of minor drawbacks. Ongoing construction outside the hotel, while not noisy, was an eyesore, and one morning, I was woken by a compressor outside our window. Additionally, the hotel’s entrance setup was confusing. The main entrance and reception are actually on the fourth floor, which isn’t immediately obvious to first-time guests. Walking from the tram, we followed Google Maps and ended up at the building’s lowest level, where no clear entrance was visible. After some confusion, we found an obscure entryway, took an elevator, and finally discovered the reception area.

Went to the amazing looking bar near closing time after a late-ish arrival. Barman didn’t seem too pleased to see us. We ordered margaritas - he had to look it up in his cocktail book. Sadly, they weren’t great.

the door into the press bar.... it bangs like hell, if you are sitting inside it... just needs to be adjusted on the door closure spring.... and the shampoo/soap/conditioneer bottles...while the contents have great quality, you can only squeeze them once and then you have to wait ages for the pump to refill itself....jump into the shower yourself and try it...with the water running mind you.... it might be a deliberate manufacturing design to prevent people from using too much liquids. the same brand is being used in another hotel in the city....same difficulty.
