Clean, comfortable and well decorated rooms, excellent variety and quality of food and all the staff were very pleasant and have been very well trained. The service here was much better than in some far more expensive restaurants l have eaten in.
Can't really think of any negatives! This is one of the most welcoming places l have stayed whilst travelling with work and restaurant quality food and service at pub prices. It's also ideally suited for visiting Durham and one of the few pubs l stay in on business that l would enjoy bringing my wife to for a short break if we ever decide to visit the area.

It was great value, as it included a lovely cooked or continental breakfast. The pub below didn’t disturb us. Our room at the front was set back from the road, which didn’t bother us and had country views beyond. We appreciated the window box outside which had lovely fresh, colourful flowers matching other well tended planters at the front of the pub which set the tone well. The room wasn’t big, but it was adequate for our needs and the shower was fantastic. We ate dinner on each of the three nights of our stay, we enjoyed the food, it was terrific! Thank you to all the staff, you were wonderful!
We both found the beds a bit hard and there was only a thin mattress cover, replacing this with a mattress topper would make it more comfortable.

Just a five-minute drive from the historic center of Durham with its cathedral and castle, this is a classic English inn in the countryside, with pub, great restaurant, and accommodations. The room was very up to date and comfortable. Breakfast was amazing, and the dinner was so good we ate here both nights we were in Durham. The staff are young, friendly, and enthusiastic. Lots of sheep grazing the pastures behind the inn. Great value for the price. Strongly recommend!

Lovely two night stay. Staff were very friendly and professional, room was reasonably spacious and very clean. Creaky floorboards, its an old building. It's location is great for trips to Durham, and our room was very quiet. Breakfasts were quite wonderful and we ate there in the evenings. Very good reasonably priced food served hot, nice local bitter on tap
We went during quite a cold snap and the radiator struggled to heat the room. But an electric fan heater was provided, so problem immediately resolved

Everything. The building is beautiful, the view is absolutely stunning. It was amazing to be so close to nature. The staff were exceptional, the food was unbelievable, huge portions mind, so bare that in mind when ordering. The room was immaculate, and had everything that we needed. The shower was huge. I'm not going to share photos only because I don't want to ruin the wow factor for anyone visiting. Top tip for anyone visiting on a weekend for tea.. Go early as it gets unbelievably busy, staff worked non stop and always stayed very professional. I was watching the staff in awe.
1 thing and it's so minor. The mirror is too far away from the dressing table. So when doing hair etc it's a bit of a problem. I can't remember what room I stayed in though. Very minor, it wouldn't stop me from coming back.

The room was a good size as was the bathroom with a double sized shower. Everything was clean and I would definitely stay again when in the area. We had an evening meal in the pub which was very good and breakfast was lovely too.
The shower pressure was quite poor and whilst the bathroom itself was clean there were some signs of discolouration of the grouting between the tiles in the shower which could easily be scrubbed off.

We were greeted by Owen who was very friendly. Owen and his staff were very efficient during a family meal we had booked there. The staff were friendly and helpful the whole time we were there.
On the last night we asked the young waiter for a few more minutes so we could decide what we wanted to eat but in the end I had to go looking for him. Not a big deal but all I can think of.

Nice double beds in the room, lovely view in the morning, watching the mist rise in the valley. There was a lovely Delft - style vase and other period decor that one doesn't usually find in an inn. An extra space heater was available which was good for us travelers from Arizona.
I don't recall any negatives here. We booked it very late so we got the last room on the top floor but it was still a lovely stay.

Breakfast - Good, more fruit would be nice Dinner - Good size portions and tasty, Steak and Ale Pie was good with a good selection of vegetarian options Bed - Very comfortable Staff - Were friendly and informative
Bedroom : Bin in the bedroom had not been empty from previous occupant although the room was very clean. A more comfortable seated chair in bed room would be better than a dinning type chair. Bathroom : Disappointed to see plastic cups in plastic bags in the bathroom, looked cheap and very un environmental. The bathroom could do with a little more decor it was rather clinical.

The hotel was very clean and presentable. The staff were very friendly and helpful and the food was excellent. The room and bathroom although clean and comfortable would benefit from better planning, ie more drawer space in room and somewhere to hang your towels in the bathroom. Overall though a very nice, affordable place to stay and would definitely go again.
Lack of planning in bathroom and no drawer space in bedroom.
