Everything. The staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful, the room was large, comfortable, with places to sit, a big picture window with a nice view, and excellent amenities such as a coffee pod machine. The buffet breakfast was very good to, very much superior to the average hotel buffet breakfast. The hotel restaurant was also good, but quite expensive. Finally, I liked the location in a traditional part of Kyoto, and I also liked the way the hotel's construction blended into the surrounding architecture.

Location was terrific and facitilities were nice

The “lounge” for afternoon drinks wasn’t such a great location to relax. Too many people and too small a room. The lobby is an elegant room that would have been nice to use for a drink but the staff said this was not allowed. I would recommend allowing guests to have afternoon drinks in the lobby if they wish as that is the nicest space in the hotel.

Beautiful hotel and good facilities. Location is very close to main Kyoto attractions, and staff is very helpful and nice. Onsen was very nice, but it would be good to have someone from the staff controlling it a bit more to ensure guests follow the rules.

Twin room was quite small...almost impossible to find a place for our 2 bigger luggages. :/

Location was super, minutes walking to everything. Relatively big rooms, nice private baths downstairs. Was not impressed with the restaurant (had dinner there). Great friendly staff. Very expensive. Overall nice stay.

very nice staff, a lot of thanks to Ms. Iwai who has welcomed us and also helped us to find a good restaurant. The reception realized the day we checked in was birthday of my wife and sent her very warm congratulations. Very good location, nearby Gion, Kennonji. Many restaurants and bars on the Yamatooji-Dori. The beds are very comfortable, open lavabo area. Beautiful sunken garden. excellent price-performance-ratio.

The restaurant ENDO where the breakfast is served didn’t know the special open time on 3 holidays until 11:00 instead of 10:30. Because of 2 big beds the rooms looks a little bit narrow for 2 cases. The garderobe is also not big enough.

I truly appreciate the impeccable services and meticulous designs throughout the property … from entry, attendants, concierge, lounge, happy hour, hotel decor, atrium, and room design … so quintessential of what Japan is renowned for. After a long day of exploring all the marvels at Kyoto and UNESCO heritage sites at Gion, the staff’s “welcome” puts a final touch to “home sweet home.” I enjoyed my stay immensely and wish to invite my friends/family to join me at our next visit.

Wanted to follow up on my trip to Kyoto and lodging. I spent the first evening at the Candeo which was lovely but not particularly in the location nestled in the cultural elements of Kyoto. I ended up at the Celestine which I loved. It had just enough Japanese customs to feel immersed but easy to communicate in English if new to Japan. It is located in Gion. Walking distance to several Temples…. Fabulous restaurants of all levels. The concierge does a little tour on Wednesday and Friday around the neighborhood which is a good introduction. After several weeks in Shikoku hiking from temple to temple and staying in traditional lodging ryokan and guest houses a bit of luxury was in order. I highly recommend the Celestine Kyoto in Gion.
