Nice and comfortable apartment. Conveniently located to explore Kyoto's sights. Convenience store is in the same building.

- Check-in was a mess. There was no availability for a pre check-in. All personal data had to be entered via the personal smartphone in the hotel lobby. The process didn't complete and the staff that was there by chance (lobby mostly unstaffed) was pretty clueless what was wrong. Somehow worked it out in the end. - ok another occasion we had a hotel staff knock on our door at 1115pm (we were already sleeping) to physically show us a qr code after we had messaged with them two hours earlier. - Room was in the basement and had no view. Although we had a small terrace with light from the street above. This was a minor annoyance but the location was not clear from the description.

We simply loved the Minn Gion - mostly because it was spacious, had a bedroom where we could put our kids to bed, shut the door, and still watch a movie or have a conversation in the lounge area, and it had a functional kitchen where we cooked every night of our 5 nights stay in Kyoto. By the time we got to Kyoto, we had already had 5 nights in Tokyo and Hakone eating out and were desperately wanting to have home-cooked meals. There was a greengrocer (Kyoto Vegetable Shop Kanoya Gion) and supermarkets (Fresco and Fresco Petit) close by and we just bought miso paste, veggies, tofu, sashimi, and curry and made dinner every night. It worked out well for us to do activities in the morning, and come back to the apartment for the afternoon where we could chill, make dinner, and put the kids to bed at a reasonable hour. The apartment felt secure and private - the building had an access code to get in, and each apartment had an individual code. Hubby and I felt comfortable enough to leave the kids to watch TV with a phone to contact us while we went off to do more exploring of the area instead of dragging them with us. Everyone was more relaxed and happy. Bonus - there was a washer/dryer combo in the bathroom and we took full advantage of it after a few big days of walking at the Fushimi Inari Shrine and the Bamboo Forest. The property itself was located in the beautiful Gion district. It has a family mart convenience store right downstairs and a Visa ATM (bonus!) It was about a 7-minute walk to the closest train station, and less to bus stops. To get to the Kyoto station it would take about 25 minutes either by train or bus, but we didn't mind. We were also able to walk to a couple of massage places close by where hubby and I had a couples massage.

There was nothing we didn't like about the property.

Room is spacious. Location is great. Staff are kind and helpful. Actually it has luggage storage room on level 1.

The online check-in and communication system needs improvement: 1. I followed the email from the hotel and did online check-in. But was informed online check-in did not work upon arrival. So the receptionist did check-in again manually. 2. Nobody replies to queries on booking.com. The design of water tap + sink (beside washroom) is not ideal: easily splash everywhere. Need to control the water flow carefully.

Very near to Gion by walk. Family mart is also near this place. We can go to Osaka Castle by Keihan line directly without changing of train. The room is very spacious and well-decorated.

Some basic amenities are charged e.g. onsen, pajamas, toothbrush. No room cleaning service for whole 5 nights.

We had a large apartment style room in the basement of this small hotel. In reading reviews, some guests didn't like that the bedroom of the suite didn't have windows. We considered this a plus because the room was dark and quiet for sleeping. The living area had a nice patio which let in ample light from above to make the room comfortable. We could also open the sliding door to get nice fresh air. There was plenty of room to stretch out and lounge in the evenings before dinner.

There isn't always someone attending the reception area but generally if you lingered there for just a few minutes someone would come out. They were friendly and helpful when needed. There is a private spa area in the basement but it was pretty expensive to book time to use it so we didn't. We also had to pay to rent PJ's which were provided complimentary at all other places we stayed during our three weeks in Japan. It was a nominal fee so we went ahead and paid to rent them.

We stayed here for a week with our 5-month-old, and it was the perfect base for exploring Kyoto. The room was spacious and big, and had comfy beds. The location was incredibly convenient—right in Gion for easy walks and close to trains and buses for exploring other attractions. Plus, there were plenty of restaurants and shops nearby. Having a small kitchenette was a bonus—it made breakfast and tea breaks so much easier. While it was on the pricier side for us, we were halfway through our journey and appreciated the convenience and comfort. It was well worth it!

- Great location. 5 min walk from Sanjo station (key station for all touristy day trips). 5-10 min walk to Gion’s famous streets and the busier side of Kyoto over the river. - Large comfortable room with all amenities needed. Mattresses on the floor were large and comfortable. Dining table was a plus. They provided us with iron when needed. - Spotlessly clean and modern decor. - Private spa and sauna for a great price - Quiet location could not here anyone else in the building on the 3rd floor

- Spa was too hot for our liking but we found out most are between 40-42 degrees here! We just kept dipping it and out! Also wish we had it longer than 90 mins! Make sure you book ahead for an evening slot.

Me and my friends stayed at Minn Gion for two nights. We had a great room with two single beds and a sleeper sofa. The bathroom and kitchen amenities were great. We appreciated the laundry facilities as well. We loved the cleanliness and especially the location. Lots of restaurants, cafes and public transport options are in walking distance. Can highly recommend this stay to future guests.

Check in/out is a digital process and the reception is not always staffed. If you’re looking for help there’s a bit of a delay in response time. This system felt super modern but is not my personal preference.

Loved the new modern look of the rooms and furniture and the keyless entry to the rooms. The room was very spacious and made it easy to relax. We had a nice view on the fifth floor too.

We tried to book the onsen but the booking system in the lobby was not working properly. Since there was no one in the lobby I contacted the hotel via Booking.com and they were unhelpful. It took them a long time to respond and they were unable to help us book the onsen. Second, they were unable to give us extra pillows for our stay. Japanese beds can be firm and painful for Americans and having two pillows can be helpful.

Loved the room - spacious apartment style with the tatami beds and table, so comfortable and lovely. TV was hard to use but who cares? LOVED the ability to rent the onsen, which was a wonderful bonus feature. Location was fabulous.

I found the reliance on apps for everything - check-in, bookings, room keys - really exhausting. I'm traveling from abroad and trying to figure out all my cell phone while trying to check in and remember passwords was a huge headache. Fortunately there was someone available at the desk who helped me and I was very grateful. But if we need people to help us with the technology, can we stop relying on the technology so much? But seriously, that was minor and easily overcome. Overall we had an absolutely fabulous stay here!
