This is our second time staying at Cross Hotel Kyoto since we enjoyed our previous day immensely. The hotel is centrally located within walking distance to 3 subways stations and bus stops, multiple food options, full range of shopping. Pontocho Alley, Nishiki market and Gion district are very close. There was some confusion regarding our rooms during our stay, but front office manager Mr. Rui Ogata-San was so kind and accommodating. He and his staff were so thoughtful and supportive to make sure our room was clean and comfortable. During check-in, I witnessed a very rude guest making demands and raising his voice asking for unreasonable requests such as switching his room for less pay and asking for the “rules to be changed”. Mr. Rui Ogata-San and his staff were extremely patient, listened to his (unfounded) complaints, and handled his poor behavior extremely well. The room was clean, spacious. We opted for a room with the view, with the view of the Kamo river and mountain. The breakfast had fresh western and Japanese options. We will definitely stay here again, as this was our favorite hotel of our two weeks stay in Japan!

Staff were extremely helpful and welcoming from the moment we walked through the door. The most amazing and comfortable hotel I have ever stayed in. Overall beautiful aesthetics combining traditional Japanese with contemporary - the spacious foyer complete with comfy chairs overlooking a stream and raked sand garden with complimentary coffee and bottled water. The room had the most amazing contemporary Japanese style bathroom and was impeccable throughout - I could not fault it. The most comfortable bed I have ever slept on. Slippers and PJ's provided. I never use hotel shampoo etc however this time I did as it was of a high quality and they even provided bath salts for the extra deep luxurious bath tub. The restaurant served up the most extensive breakfast I have ever seen including Wagu steak and everything else imaginable through to Tiramisu. The only thing I didn't like was having to leave. I will definitely be back and would thoroughly recommend this hotel.
Nothing at all.

1 staff are 1oo% amazing. Attentive, gracious, eager not just willing to help. 2 Room. Space, cleanliness, comfort, quiet. 3 Location. Wow! The natural beauty you created with a garden views through glass walls in your lounge area made us feel we were in the country not the heart of a city; coffee in the lounge all day was superb, a real morning treat to sit while enjoying the garden; canal lined w cherry trees next door, River two bocks over, walking distance to so much including really fun eateries. Thank you for such a pleasant stay.
1 I might have enjoyed a bit softer bed and fluffier pillow. But that may just be an American thing! And it didn’t keep me from sleeping off 13 hours worth of jet lag!

Very central location, right in the middle of an area of bars and restaurants and a short walk to old town Kyoto. It was a great base for exploring the city. The room was clean and modern. Beds were comfortable and the shower was powerful. I would stay here again.
This hotel would have been excellent if there was an overhead shower in the bathroom too (not just a handheld on the wall). The bath towels also could have been bigger! The self check in screens didn't end up being that much quicker to use as you had to fill out personal information (like home address) on a slow interface.

Cross Hotel is a spectacular building, located very close to the hustle and bustle of central Kyoto. Despite the location we experienced a quiet and relaxing stay here. The breakfast was fantastic with Western and Asian options. The staff were so friendly and helpful - it was disappointing to see some tourists not reciprocating this back. The room was slightly small but unless you’re planning on travelling to Japan to then spend most of your time in your room, this shouldn’t be an issue. The hotel was spotless, highly recommend.
Slightly pricier than we would have liked, but the location, cleanliness and breakfast did justify this.

Very efficient checkin/checkout process.Friendly, gracious front desk staff. Great beds, small but comfortable room.Black -out curtains. My room window was locked shut but they kindly unlocked it at my request-so I could breathe fresh air while sleeping. The decor of the hotel is elegant and sophisticated, including stunning red lacquer elevator doors.Art work on the walls.Corridors and carpets were the best I've seen in a hotel of this level. Very good wifi coverage .Hotel restaurant appears to be open at breakfast only-during the period I stayed there.
I may be quibbling here, but the hotel lacked any personality. It seemed to be an efficiently run ,business -type hotel.Very crowded at all times.Main common area feels like an airport waiting room .Constantly busy .Checkin/checkout all done by machine(common in Japan).Next time I'll find a more locally run ,boutique property that reminds me I'm in Japan. Breakfast breads/pastries were of the cheapest, driest variety. The cereals(cornflakes and fake sugary granola) were also of very low quality. The other items at breakfast were excellent. I bought my own quality muesli , grain bread ,and peanut butter from a grocery store -and ate them my 7 mornings here. There is no gym but I found a great "24 -hour fitness "10 minutes away.

Cross Hotel Kyoto is in a convenient location few minutes walk to the Sanjo train station and also the bus stand. Right in the centre of the busy shopping district and close to Nishiki market. The rooms are clean with great amenities. The seperate toilet and shower facilities were convenient with great shower pressure and hot water. The breakfast was varied with a good spread of continental and Asian dishes. The lobby was spacious with lots of seating and you could avail of tea/coffee through the day. Service was courteous and attentive. Would definitely stay again on our next visit This hotel ticks all the boxes

The hotel is well located only a short walk from a number of subway stations on lines that take you direct to Kyoto station if taking the Shinkansen. It's also sandwiched in between the river and the main shopping precinct and Nishiki market area, and only a short walk to the Gion district, so couldn't be better located in our opinion. Really nice ambience throughout the hotel and has a beautiful area adjacent to the reception area where you can sit and relax as well as a nice bar in the restaurant. Really good buffet breakfast with a variety of options covering most tastes and although we didn't have dinner or lunch the dishes that were being brought out looked great. The rooms were well sized, clean, modern and well appointed. It was certainly a hotel that we'd have no hesitation to stay at again if we went back to Kyoto.
Wasn't much not to like about the hotel.

The staff are incredibly nice and helpful and our room was very clean and well-designed since we were 3 people to 1 room. We didn't feel too cramped and there were places to put most of our bags (we got creative for the smaller bags). However, the standout is the bathroom. The toilet is in a separate room with a small sink and the main bathroom is spacious, with a shower and soaking tub in one section (with a door that sealed very well) and the sink in another part. This made getting ready in the morning much easier. Also, we stayed in 3 different hotels during our 2-week trip to Japan and Cross Hotel's bathroom was by far the largest and nicest. They also offer various supplies should you need them, but since they are environmentally-conscious, they made them available in the lobby only if needed and this prevents unnecessary waste. Finally, the free coffee and tea in the lobby was a nice touch, especially since it's hard to find places for breakfast that open before 9 or 10am in Japan and I need coffee well before that to function. Again, The Cross Hotel was the only hotel of the 3 that we stayed in that provided this amenity. Location was also great...there are several shrines within a 20-30 minute walk.
It would have been terrific to have some washing machines and dryers in the hotel proper. There is a laundromat very nearby, which we used, but we got used to having laundry facilities in the hotels in Japan. It's a very handy convenience, but not a deal breaker for this hotel since they nailed everything else.

everything was amazing! my husband is an architect and after travelling for almost a month in Japan we stayed in a lot of hotels. He was always commenting on what the hotels could have done better. But as soon as we checked into the cross we could both tell thus one was different. The superior room was quite big, amazing finishes both in the room and the rest of the hotel. lit is one groovy hotel in a fantastic position with fantastic art on the walls, layback music in the restaurant. All of the staff where amazing. the concierge staff were outstanding! from helping us to get tickets before we got there to a temple that had a particularly onerous reservation system, helping my husband get an urgent on the spot dental appointment to helping us send our luggage onto Tokyo via the courier system! the cross hotel is a class act anyway you look at it. special thanks to Haruna and the rest of the concierge staff - you guys are amazing!!! if we come back to Kyoto, I won’t be agonising on where to stay. I’m going straight back to the cross hotel! oh I forgot to mention that the breakfast was awesome!
there’s nothing not to like!
