Old world charm. Good size bedroom and bathroom. Close to the town. Unpretentious with a wonderfully comfortable atmosphere. Good off road hotel car parking in an area where parking spots are hard to come by. Great staff. Everybody seemed really happy and genuinely very welcoming. Excellent breakfasts. Super views from the patio, especially the fantastic sunsets if you’re lucky enough with the weather.
No lifts, so 43 steps up to our second floor bedroom. A bit of a climb for a near-octogenarian, but nice that there were comfy chairs thoughtfully provided between floors so you can have a bit of a rest on the ascent! No walk-in shower, but understandable in a hotel of this vintage; that goes for the lack of a lift too.

Lovely hotel nice and big with a great view over the river wye and countryside It's a very busy hotel and popular for eating 9/10 overall We can only say that all the staff were fantastic, friendly and professional a credit to the hotel
The hotel had hot water pipes on in the rooms, not the radiators, just hot water pipes, which made the rooms very stuffy hot and dry at night It's was like a furnace so we did not get a good sleep, other customers also had this issue They could do with some building maintenance, we had a hugh crack on our ceiling and outside of Hotel could do with a paint job

Evening Meal & Breakfast were superb. Staff above and beyond, and so friendly. If anything, it was impossible to speak to someone when I phoned twice, prior to arriving. First it was an automated voice, then when it put me through to Reception, the phone rang and rang and no one answered. Just a small thing, slightly frustrating, but the overall experience was delightful. Very relaxing after a long day at The Malvern Spring Flower Festival. Just what we needed. Great setting for the bar and fantastic view 😃 Would definitely stay there again !
Communication when phoning up. Being able to speak to a person not an automated voice.

The staff was exceptionally friendly and helpful, providing suggestions about places to work during the day and directions. I must also thank the staff immensely for being so accommodating when I lost a belonging of mine during my stay. Breakfast was tasty and inexpensive, and the room was extremely spacious. I stayed in a twin room by myself, and there was more than enough room for me and several others to stay in there! It is within walking distance to everything in the city centre, and the river is a short walk down from the main entrance.
The shower in the bath was a bit dirty with mould in the grout. I felt it could have been cleaned a bit better. The beds were quite hard which is not my preference.

We were celebrating a special family event so we wanted everything to go well - and it did! The location was excellent- close to the town and facilities. The view over the River Wye was beautiful. The staff were amazing - so friendly and obliging. The hotel was warm and cosy - just what you want in February! The breakfast and food was very good too. All together a wonderful weekend. The onsite carpark was another bonus.
Everything was very good but my husband found the staircase a challenge. We were only able to make one cup of tea so a few more teabags and refreshment supplies in our room would have been welcome.

Breakfast was good every day, lovely choices on the menu and the poached eggs were especially good. Room was large and spacious, and the bed really comfortable. the view across the river was superb. dinner, again was great, all the food was freshly prepared and arrived looking great. we were even able to make little swaps and changes to the set dishes to meet our likes and dislikes.
the only thing that wasn't great was the number of stairs in the building to get to our room, but a very helpful member of staff showed us a simpler way with less stairs. much appreciated.

Superb location in the heart of Ross with everything a short walk away. Due to scaffolding outside the building views were restricted of the beautiful surrounding area and river Wye, but I was forewarned of this prior to my arrival. The breakfasts were truly first rate with good choice and tasty local produce, thank you Carol for looking after me with a smile and cheery words. My mattress was a little on the soft side for my own preference but room service was spot on and the whole place had a wonderful 'old coaching inn' feel about it with all the necessary modern accoutrements, though I found the WiFi patchy at best. I was made to feel very welcome and would definitely want to stay there again.
WiFi could certainly be improved upon.

All staff, very pleasant & welcoming. We've returned for a few years now. Previous times staff have also been pleasant but this year seemed, more customer facing, I don't know if it has been a particular drive this year but definitely paid off. All credit to the staff!! Breakfast is good - add black pudding please?!
Bed is comfy but don't like the pillows would prefer some pillow options. As returning customer had same problem last year. This year abandoned pillow altogether too high, not ideal either but better than cricked neck. Want a shallow pillow as well to sleep on to avoid cricked neck.

I stayed in the older part of the hotel this visit, in room 3, it's a really nice option as the rooms on this side of the hotel have really good reception on O2. I loved room 8 particularly, it has a cute view and a quirky staircase to the bathroom. The beds and cushions are so comfortable. The staff are friendly and helpful. Sally and Carol are total stars and go above and beyond to ensure a great stay. Most of my trips recently have been for meetings in Hay-on-Wye but I would rather stay at the Royal, where the food is great and the welcome is generous, and drive to my meetings fresh and happy. Highly recommend a stay here.

This super friendly hotel is right in the centre of Ross has parking and beautiful views over the river. We had a double river view room which also has a sofa and coffee table where you can sit and read a book or just admire the view. It also has a little balcony. We ate in the hotel both nights and the food was delicious on both nights. Breakfast was amazing too with lots of choice to suit all requirements. The absolute bonus of this hotel are the staff. Each member of staff we spoke to were so friendly and helpful and credit to the hotel. Thanks for a wonderful stay Diolch
