The check in was so easy to understand and I hadn't done that before. The instructions to open the Outside door, obtain the room key and carry on to the room, were very straightforward. I had booked a specific room, it had a beautiful view of the golf course, I have never played, but my best friend who stayed with me has, all of his life. We always check a room first before taking our cases in. This room was perfect! We were in and settled very quickly. Easy parking, in the grounds at the property. We had a lovely view, two very comfy siting room chairs at the Bay window, and a table to sit at. On the first night, we had a takeaway, with wine that we had brought in ourselves. We woke up to a glorious day, the sun was shining, and there was clearly a gold tournament commencing. We watched people tee off, others approaching etc. It was a short drive to the city centre, to have breakfast . When we returned , I realised that the television in the room was screen freezing, I called the number given for any queries, and almost immediately a lovely chap came to check the television. He said that he would have it sorted out, that afternoon. We had only intended to stay two nights, however it was so lovely, that we had booked the room again. We returned later that afternoon, to find a completely new television in place! The service was incredible!. We wandered along to a terrific restaurant within a very short walking distance, called Roos. The food was delicious. All in all our stay at the Grey Harlings, was extremely good value for money, the young lady and chap, were amazing! We will definitely stay there again, the next time, we will know to book three nights minimum! Honestly it was so peaceful, the bed was so comfy, we slept so well. It is 20 out of ten! Ooh! If you decide to have breakfast in your room, they even provided a microwave. If fitted in with the decor, as it was over at a desk and chair by the first place. Christina
This question is so easy to answer! Nothing could have been better! The furniture around the building was beautiful, some pieces, actually fascinating.

15 mins walk into the main street of Montrose for shopping and bars and meals etc.. Good hotel if using the golf course. We were not. Self-service for check-in and no bar in the hotel. Decent restaurant nearby (50 meters) for a meal and drinks, although quite pricey. Nice walk along the beach front directly from the hotel entrance. Good if you have kids as there is a good-sized play park with a cafe along the walk. The hotel was clean and a good-sized room. There was a small fridge in the room, which we had to switch off due to the buzzing noise coming from it. We had noisy neighbors in the adjoining room, but this was no fault of the hotel but showed that the noise will travel through the walls. Free parking at the hotel with plenty of spaces.

The property is in a lovely, quiet location, it's well kept and the facilities within the rooms are good - there's a small desktop fridge, a microwave, tea & coffee, etc. We wouldn't hesitate to stay again if in the area. The close proximity to the Roos Leap restaurant just across the road means it's very easy to access good food at lunchtimes and evenings.
The property is completely self-checkin now, so you simply collect the key from a lockbox at the front door and head to your room. When we stayed previously there was a friendly receptionist who was able to answer questions and provide information. Totally understandable to reduce this service at times the hotel isn't busy, but we missed the personal greeting, as well as the opportunity to have breakfast. We couldn't get connected to the wi-fi in our room, but the 4G phone signal was fine and we weren't there long enough to bother trying to fix it. Not sure if the problem was us or the wifi!

When choosing, make sure you understand that this is a room only service, there is no restaurant, bar or staff on site - or at least there wasn't when we stayed, might be due to winter operating and not all facilities are available during winter. There is no concierge or booking in process, only online, we when arrived we had to retrieve the key from a lock box on the wall and let ourselves in. There is a WhatsApp number to call or text if you have any questions. The room itself was fine, clean, warm and functional, bathroom was good too, nice and clean, tea and coffee making facilities. Clean towels and bedding. Has adequate lighting and TV in the room, we also had a little alarm clock radio on the bedside.
Everything was fine

Loved the friendliness of the staff. The room was really spotless ,very well equipped. It was in an ideal location .Being so close to the sea and very good restaurants ,it had a magic all of its own.Ive already booked to stay again .For the first time in a few years i slept a full night in the extremely comfortable bed and beautiful sheets. They felt like a 1000 thread count really home from home and so very comfy.Loved sitting in the window seats with a glass of wine enjoying the beautiful view.
Absolutely nothing.

The very friendly owner Linda and the staff, Nica and Linda’s daughter. Such a great location with views over the golf course and the beach nearby. The breakfasts were cooked superbly and served with a smile. Our room was very adequate and comfortable. We enjoyed drinks in the lounge in the evening where there was a snooker table although we didn’t get around to using it.
The only slight down side was that the hotel did not serve meals in the evening. The restaurant across the road Roos Leap was superb though and we ate there the three nights we were staying.

Location is great. Very quiet.
Poached eggs were very good, however offering was sparse. 2 eggs 1 piece of toasted bread and 1 piece of toasted bread for spreading with jam etc. Pre order breakfast menu makes it clear you can only choose one item (full breakfast, poached eggs on toast, porridge etc). No cereals offered in addition to your one selected item. 1 x juice & 1 small cafetiere of coffee. Server never offered more at any stage. Breakfast could make or break the value for money vs hotels just a few hundred yards away. WiFi didn't have a strong signal in the room.

The room was a great size. The views of the golf course were lovely. If you are going a golfing holiday this is an excellent choice to stay. Nearby a short walk away was the beach and promenade which was a lovely walk. I would suggest a taxi to the town centre as its roughly a 20 minute walk away. There was a lovely wee pub called The Golf Inn which was less than a 10 minute walk from the hotel and it does a nice lunch. The staff were very helpful in the hotel. The cooked breakfast was lovely and made to order but there was no continental items before the breakfast but this was okay for me and my husband. We thought the hotel was great value for money and will definitely go back again in the future. If you stay here I would definitely recommend the Australian Restaurant the Roos Leap which is less than a 2 minute walk from the hotel and is one of the best restaurants I have ever eaten in. The bar prices in the Hotel were really reasonable as well for a glass of chardonnay and a pint of lager it was under £10.
There was nothing we didn't like perhaps just the fact it was a 20 minute walk from the town centre but that's all.

The room was lovely and clean Breakfast was fabulous everything was piping hot The staff were friendly and helpful nothing was too much trouble The hotel was on the edge of the golf course which made it nice a quiet plus we had entertainment watching the golfers missing the hole
It was a shame that the restaurant had closed down so they are only doing bed and breakfast The mattress were a bit too soft for us but you can’t have different mattresses to suit everyone needs

Spotlessly clean. Outstanding breakfast and delightful staff. Situated in a peaceful location overlooking the golf course. Particular mention for Seonaid who couldn't have been more helpful. Would thoroughly recommend.
There is absolutely nothing to dislike. Whilst the hotel has a small comfortable bar area and open lounge area, evening meals are not served. However, Australian themed 'Roos Leap' restauant 50 metres to the right, served tasty and good value food in spotless surroundings. The eating area is upstairs so looks out over the golf course. It is very popular, so you need to book.
