We arrived at the hotel at about 1800 ans there was a wedding in full swing . Although the staff were busy with the wedding they were all very attentive and didn’t take away from the hospitality we received . Lovely meal , the wedding music was a bonus really and we stay up later than anticipated 😂 Special shout out to Charlie , couldn’t do enough to make sure you were happy . He was working when we went to bed and was there when we left in the morning with the exact same customer service as the night before . Young talent that needs to be nurtured . Would definitely stay there again . The hotel is right in the middle of the town walking distance to everywhere Hitchin is a beautiful town with lots of one off shops , buzzing atmosphere on a lovely sunny day . All in all we didn’t want to leave 👍

Our room was very comfortable and well furnished. You don't often get 2 comfy chairs!! The staff were friendly and helpful. We were warmly received on arrival The location was good, near to the town centre.

The bathroom needed some ventilation. Using the bath or shower left the floor damp and a bit slippery. Also there wasn't a slip mat for the bath available. Climbing up the stairs with our luggage was a bit of a struggle, a lift would be great!! Admittedly the Sun is an old building and probably has building restrictions. And if we had asked for help with our luggage, no doubt it would have been given.

The hotel is located right in the middle of Hitchin which is a really nice place with some great shops. It is also well placed for anyone wanting to go running or cycling as there is plenty of open space nearby. There are quite a few options for rooms and they all have their own individuality. There are also ground floor rooms which people with disabilities could access. The showers are nice and hot, and the beds are comfortable. The bar is great. It should be full of people but it's really quiet. However, the staff are excellent and the food served is great. There are places close by that charge more and in my opinion are not as good

Hotel was in a central location to the town. It was busy as the Christmas lights were being turned on. The staff work hard to keep it running smoothly they are friendly and polite which makes a huge difference to your stay. We had a meal on our second night and there was an issue with it, but the manager quickly resolved this. Rooms was clean and nicely decorated, beds comfortable. We had a lovely stay in Hitchin, there was so much going on. Thank you Clive,James, Adam and all the other staff that make this a lovely Hotel to stay in

The outside area could do with a make over

There's so much to say about The Sun. If you like something a little different, you should try here. The layout is like a mini adventure with lots of steps, and different sized corridors where houses have been knocked through into each other to make the hotel rooms. I'm not 100% sure, but I think there are some ground level rooms for people who can't get up stairs. It might be worth asking beforehand. Each room has its own individual character and you can feel the history within the walls. The WiFi is good, and the tea making facilities are good too. The water in the bath/shower was really hot and the bed was comfortable. Despite hearing that it was haunted in places, none of us saw anything. The staff are great, nothing is too much trouble from checking in, to getting an invoice on check out. The bar staff are excellent, and if the beer needs changing, they can change the barrel with the speed of an F1 pit crew. The food is excellent and well priced. There is a quiz night which is fun to do (We won it) and has decent prizes too. I was shocked that there wasn't many people in the bar as it was really nice, both inside, and outside in the beer garden. Parking isn't an issue for larger vehicles as there is a car park right at the side. There is loads of open space nearby to go running or cycling in, or if you want to go shopping, there are some nice little shops selling all kinds of things that you couldnt find on Amazon. St Mary's church is nearby and the whole town has some gorgeous buildings if you like your architecture. Hitchin is a good base to go to other places from like Duxford air museum or the Royston caves. It isn't too far from the A1 either.

I have no faults with the place. The only thing missing was more people in the bar on an evening.

No breakfast, but did have a evening meal 6 of us and we all enjoyed our food All The staff were great polite and chatty knew there job busy cleaning the bar and restaurant area when not busy my 11 year old grandson enjoyed the games out on the table nice idea. We had two rooms 10 &11 both were very clean as was the bathroom plenty of towels.

The corridors to the rooms could do with a fresh coat of paint , my sister had her wedding reception there 20 yrs ago and it's still the same paint and carpet.

The Staff. Their ability to cater for your every need puts most other hotels to shame! They’re friendly, accommodating, understanding and professional beyond reproach. All staff were courteous allowing for ease of conversation, which lightened my stay. Particular thanks to the Chef, who had only been there a week, for his excellent food and conversation. To the morning restaurant manager who was exceptionally friendly and catered for my every request without asking. And to the general manager for their honesty and subsequent gift following an issue that was beyond their control. Without them this stay would have been cut short.

It’s always going to be hard to keep up with other similar hotels in the area for improvements, if the place is quiet. The outdatedness of the decor does provide character but only to a certain point. Just need a team of handy people to update the rooms, provide new locks on the doors, update the bathrooms and maybe then the guests will come flooding back. Market the venue to discuss its history (spooky past), its relevance in the area and provide events that mirror the town and all its splendour.

Staff were super-helpful when we had some difficulties. Breakfast was part self-service and part served with a smile - a human touch. The room was spacious, the bed comfortable. The location is excellent - in the centre of the beautiful old town.

A lot of stairs to get to the room (first-floor) and another step between bedroom and en-suite. All right if you are young and fit (which we are not). There was some late-night noise from the street (Friday night).

I have used the Sun several times; it's quite evident that Greene King are finally investing in a beautiful old building, much smarter and tidier As before best investment is the staff, always helpful willing and smiling! (Shout out to Harry and Evans) Ate there too - evening meal well presented and tasty AND drinks are very reasonable... what more could you ask??

Only thing I could suggest is maybe hot chocolate on the tea tray would cater for the younger guests?
