The hotel is lovely, the location is perfect. We had a view of Edinburgh Castle from our room and as the hotel is located in the Grassmarket, we had access to an array of bars and restaurants. The bonus was a market on the Saturday which had lots of stalls with hand made items and food. The hotel is modern and clean, the rooms are a good size and they provide robes and slippers as well as a little rubber duck, which I will add to my collection :) The bed was very comfortable, there was a safe, a fridge, ironing board and iron, tea and coffee making facilities. The hand/body wash and hand cream were of a lovely quality and smelled great. The staff were very friendly and helpful. We asked for extra pillows and they magically appeared in our room. We only stayed one night, but would definitely go back again. The only little blip was at breakfast the following morning. We ordered a full Scottish Breakfast which took about 40 mins to arrive and the coffee machine decided not to work so we were delayed and missed the check out time. The staff were very apologetic and made sure we could get back into our room in order to check out. This is why I didn't rate this hotel as 'Excellent' but 'Good', but I'm sure this was a one-off and would not put us off staying here again. Overall, very impressed with this hotel

The location of this hotel is absolutely fantastic. I made a mistake in my booking, reserved one night more than I wanted. Initially, the hotel response was very cold and cruel and left me very disappointed. However, the front-office manager, Tania, called me today (one week after I checked out) and she apologised that no other option was offered to me and explained that she was not there at the time to handle this and she actually corrected the booking for me. I appreciate this very much and am now able to confidently state that this hotel's customer service policy at least is very fair and understanding. Perhaps their staff should be more well-trained to avoid the kind of interaction I had, but this is not something I would say is a huge negative aspect. The front-office manager really turned the whole situation around and made me feel valued as a guest. I would gladly visit the hotel again, and recommend it to my colleagues and friends.

The front-desk staff would benefit from more training and preparation to uphold the hotel's wonderful customer service policy.

We stayed for two nights and initially booked breakfast for one morning. However, the discount for pre-ordering and the excellent quality of the first breakfast convinced us to return the next day. Between us, we enjoyed the Full Scottish Breakfast, porridge, the kipper meal, and smoked salmon with scrambled eggs. Everything was delicious, and we greatly appreciated the prompt service. We were celebrating my partner’s birthday, and both the desk staff and even the cleaning staff left a thoughtful note to wish her well.

Although a minor detail, the toilet roll was positioned behind the toilet, making it slightly awkward to reach.

Location was superb. Not too far from the train station and all key tourist attractions are within walking distance. The room was a really good size, the shower was gorgeous and the shampoo, conditioner and similar provisions were of a good quality. The reception staff were friendly and very helpful. Filter water was available in the corridor of our floor and that was welcome

The pillows were too soft for us and the heating system in the room did not work. We were cold the first night but when we informed the reception staff we were provided with an electric heater and all was fine after that. We had to ask reception for milk regularly as there either was none, or a little amount provided in the room.

The staff were happy, friendly and helpful - they seemed genuinely interested in what we said and helped when asked. Breakfast selection great. Room good size and good to have a bath and an excellent shower. Pleased could open window a little to let air in. Excellent location as on tour bus route and by the castle.

Not a lot to say here - yes would like it a little cheaper, but location by castle, so was fair compared to others. Only odd thing is we had Twin room as mother and daughter travelling together, but beds pushed right together with head board designed that way with plugs and lights - managed to create small gap.

All hotels in the Centre of Edinburgh are (extremely) expensive. We paid around 250 eur per night for 2 persons, one of the most expensive hotels I ever had in my life. But the room was good, clean, very good beds, you could open the window for some fresh air and... view on the castle. Right next door the Grass market with good pubs and restaurants. So compared to others ("pricefighter" Ibis had a comparable price for example) a good choice.

During the night of course drunken British shouting and yelling in and outside the hotel.

Overall, our experience at the Apex City of Edinburgh hotel surpassed our expectations. With no negatives to report, we can wholeheartedly recommend this hotel for anyone seeking a luxurious and unforgettable stay in Edinburgh.

The location is perfect, only a short walk from Victoria Street. The room was clean and spacious enough for 2 people and 3 suitcases. Bathroom was big with a tub and a shower. Unfortunately, the car park of the hotel was full, but we were able to park at Apex Grassmarket Hotel which was only a short walk away. Staff is very friendly and helpful.

During the first night we realized that there is a weird smell (like waste water) coming from the bathroom but thought it will disappear on its own. During the second night it got worse, we just closed the door and during check-out we informed the receptionist about it and asked them to take care of it.

Everything was great: the stuff was lovely and attentive, breakfast is simple and has everything essential, rooms are clean and have enough space.

It would be great to have quieter mornings, especially on weekends. The main source of noise seems to be the doors, which bang very loudly. Having door stoppers installed or soft-close mechanisms would make a big difference, as the constant banging throughout the day and night makes it difficult to sleep.

Fantastic breakfast with optional haggis and very friendly staff. Hotel is probably one of the best locations in Edinburgh with an amazing view of the castle from our room. Shower was massive with shampoo, conditioner and shower gel provided. Two free drinks provided in the bar as it was a 70th birthday trip were very much appreciated.

A little noisy on a Friday and Saturday night as you are just over the road from a few pubs so if you are a light sleeper you might get disturbed, but was no problem for us
