The rooms are spacious for a hostel, and clean. I am referring to the double private rooms, not shared-beds dorms. The shower and bathroom, although outside the rooms, were also spacious, and private!! There were 8 rooms or so, and 3 showers (with private doors, unlike the dorms part where they only have 1 shower room with no privacy and 3 showers in it). Big plus for me. So if you plan to stay, I highly recommend to not take the dorm rooms, take the private rooms with ot without shared bathroom. I added a picture of the shared shower. Switzerland is expensive, and this hostel privided value for low price. Also outside the hostel is tram 15, bus 36, and it's close to main station SBB. Staff were friendly. Check in/out was easy.
The room was a bit hot. Blankets and pillows were small. Overall nothing wrong, I'm being very petty.

Uncomplicated check-in with friendly staff who offered extra information. The room was spacious and clean and light and really cozy. Showers, toilets etc were nearby and clean. We stayed for one night as we were visiting friends and family in Basel and it was perfect. The location is also good - quite central but still very quiet.
The mattress on the bed really needs to be changed. I understand that a hostel won't have hotel-class mattresses and I like a hard mattress but it had a dip in the middle you could feel the wood underneath through it and I was glad I only had one night sleeping on it. Also be aware that this private room was on the 2nd floor of a building with only stairs so if you have luggage or are not so mobile this might be an issue for you.

Like probably most people, I came there mainly cause of the price and this was my first stay at a hostel. I didn't expect much yet when I arrived I got much more than (I thought) I paid for. Destination is great, right next to both a tram and bus stop. Rooms had many beds but never felt crowded. We all got lockers for our stuff. Whole hostel was clean and had a cool urban vibe. Apart from the showers, there was also a community stove, washer/dryer, iron and ironing board... everything you would need. Staff was super friendly. Everyone could take free coffee or tea at the lobby and the buffet breakfast was only 8CHF per day, which is cheap for Swiss standards. And on top of all that, everyone gets the Basel Card which gives a bunch of amenities in the city. Oh and also, the receptionist, on the day I was leaving, had a cool hat.
No real issues except that the person next to me snored loudly, but that's not the hotels fault :D. I also was surprised that I didn't get a towel with my sheets, but to be fair I didn't have a need to shower and they would have probably given me one if I asked, considering they gave me everything else.

The hostel is really great. It is in a nice neighborhood. It is well connected by trams and buses to the rest of the city. The rooms and the bathrooms are very clean. The staff are wonderful. The bed is king size and the key for the locker is provided. The kitchen is well-furnished with all kinds of cutleries, utensils, a microwave and burners as well as a huge fridge. The property provides an eight swiss franks buffet breakfast for those who wish it, which is great value when you look at the prices of coffee shops. I really enjoyed my stay and will definitely go back.

I took a private room. The room was unexpectedly spacious, had a lovely retro feel, comfy bed and sofa, hot shower with good pressure, wooden floor. Everything was very clean. Loved the character. The heating works fine. The common areas— kitchen was clean and had all the essentials needed; dining and lounge areas were clean and cosy. And there was free flow of tea each day, and during the reception’s opening hours, it serves hot beverages and doubles as a small café. Nice, casual vibe. Excellent location— two tram stops away from the main train station. It’s a short walk from the tram stop. Short tram ride to the Old City and the riverside. Supermarkets, both Coop and Migros, the two main chains in Switzerland— with walking distance. Staff was very friendly, warm, spontaneous and helpful. Interesting building— the hostel is located within a lovely repurposed, mixed-purpose community-centric block. Adds to the friendly, casual vibe.
No elevator, but the layout of the property would have made installing elevators difficult anyway. It was a little bit noisy— you could hear some footsteps and pipes gurgling from the dorms, and some conversations and footsteps on the stairs. Windows faced the open courtyard in the building or the street just outside, so keeping them open upped the noise and occasionally let in cigarette smoke.

The staff was kind. Room was spacious. It's good to have a somewhat (by Swiss standards) affordable option for a stay in Basel. There is a good public transportation connection right next to the hostel. There is a free public transportation pass for any stay in Basel, and the hotel reservation can be used for the transfer from the airport to the hotel/hostel, so that was great (not specific to this hostel, but any hotel/hostel in Basel).
Not a big fan of shared bathrooms, nevertheless there was enough bathrooms and they were clean. Small irritants: A male guest just in loose undies making use of the facilities, not a good looking one either. Not sure where the blow-drier mentioned in the description was to be found, just hand soap in the way of toiletries. Sound isolation not that great + families with small children making full use of their developing lungs, but luckily not during the night. But overall no major complaints.

I recently stayed at Basel Backpack Hostel, and overall, it was a great experience. The hostel is well-located, with easy access to public transport and the city center. The staff was friendly and helpful, making check-in and check-out smooth. The rooms were clean and comfortable, and the shared areas, including the kitchen and lounge, were well-maintained and provided a nice space to relax. One of the highlights was the free Basel Card, which made getting around the city much easier. The Wi-Fi connection was also reliable and fast, which was a big plus. The atmosphere was relatively quiet, which might not suit those looking for a more social experience. However, if you're looking for an affordable and convenient place to stay in Basel, Basel Backpack is a solid choice. Would recommend for budget travelers!

BED!!! There was a free option to get a double bed for one person! Loved it. I liked the room setup too. The location was comfortable and easy to access via various lines of trams available. Definitely met my expectations with its lower prices compared to rest of Switzerland. Free coffee and tea whenever was nice.
There was a kids-group booking which I HATED! They were extremely crowded, noisy and rude! The facility did not help with it really, considering me and my other roommates had noise complaints at various times in the day. Also, the water boilers in the kitchen were both really dirty (burnt really, should be renewed by the facility)

I loved the ambience and the place was clean and tidy. The rooms were adequately-sized with bunkbeds and clean sheets. They can also provide towels for rent. The location is right next to tram and bus stops which can easily take you to the city center.
The upper bunk beds don't have access to sockets so a bit difficult to charge your phone at night. I saw a fan but not sure how hot it will get in the summers. Please also note you need to bring all your own toiletries as there is not even shampoo or soap in the showers.

Great location, quite quiet, close to the train station and bus and tram stops. Near catering establishments, dance studios. The bunk double beds in the dorm were particularly surprising. A key is provided for the lockers, so you don't need to bring your own. Note that the rosettes in Switzerland are of a slightly different type. The free public transport card provided to guests is a real lifesaver. Breakfast can be ordered for an additional fee (CHF 8). Common spaces are cozy, clean, well maintained. The staff is helpful and friendly. In the context of Swiss prices, the price of accommodation is not very high (city tax - CHF 4 per night - paid at the reception).
There is no air conditioning, so only open windows save you in the hot summer. It's not the hostel's problem, but it happens in this type of accommodation - noisy guests.
