Grade II listed the building, so expect creaky floors and slopes. 2 years ago, it was run down, the staff were disheartened, and it was in need of investment and opportunity. Wind forward to 2025, and wow, what a transformation. The Heart Wood Company has obviously spent serious money revamping the hotel. Our room (The Fancy ) was beautiful, modern, spacious, clean, and so comfortable. There is a new menu that is great to see, and the dining room / veranda is stunning. The only downside part is that there is no parking due to the previous owner. Our room was expensive, and the breakfast was not nice at all. The sausages were spicy and had a nasty herb after kick, the bacon was smoked and streaky and not nice, and the toasted sourdough bread was rock hard. Please serve normal pork sausages and unsmoked back bacon and white bread. Otherwise, it was perfect.

Our bedroom was very comfortable and clean and had crisp linen, comfortable bed and great pillows. A lovely touch were the tasty sweet treats on arrival. All of the staff were exceptional, nothing was too much trouble and the atmosphere was happy and friendly. The restaurant was excellent, with delicious food of a high standard and with very efficient and thoughtful waiting staff. Breakfast too was a delight and I particularly enjoyed the full vegetarian. I would definitely recommend the White Hart, it is perfectly situated in pretty Lewes and would happily return

Lovely hotel and restaurant/bar in the centre of Lewes. Newly refurbished bathroom with walk-in shower, and everything was spotlessly clean. A nice touch was to offer a selection of delicious 'treats' to have with the range of teas or coffee. Breakfast very good quality, but not self-service.
There is no parking at the hotel. I was fortunate to get a space at East Street car park - 2/3 minutes walk - but the hotel staff said that this was very unusual as parking is very limited in the town. Ear plugs are provided in the bedroom as music below continued until 11.15 pm. It was a Saturday evening so not unreasonable.

Excellent balance of heritage and period features with sumptuous modern yet sympathetic refurbishment. The cosy bars are welcome and feel safe. As a solo female traveller I was able to retire after to one of the smaller bar lounge areas in a window seat with a glass of wine and a book. I felt completely safe. Sometimes if working away from home in my own I don’t want to just stay in my hotel room and it was lovely to read my book yet be surrounded by lively and vibrant customers who were respectful and I didn’t feel like a ‘lemon ‘ but nobody bothered me either. The rooms are warm and welcoming. I loved the Roberts radio and classical music in my room as I arrived and I appreciated the handwritten welcome. My room was lovely I liked the colour palate and I prefer a walk-in shower. Everything worked and the coffee was good too. Excellent food in the restaurant with sensitivity to my being a solo guest. Best hotel I’ve visited in years.

Angelo on reception was exceptional. Unbeknown to us, the room we had booked was up two flights of stairs and my husband would have found that almost impossible. He upgraded us to a luxurious ground floor room which was accessible without further charge .He also allowed us to park in the service bay directly outside our room. The breakfast was delicious too in a lovely dining room with fantastic views. Five stars!
Officially there is no parking at this hotel and that should be made clear on the booking.com website.

Well upgraded historic building that retains its traditional feel, and original features. Very comfortable (if small) bedroom and excellent bed, The staff were very helpful and friendly.
It would have been nice to have an inclusive room rate with breakfast but realise this is less usual nowadays, As it was, the breakfast from a la carte menu was excellent. Perhaps a warning on booking that our room would be up several flights of stairs (and no lift) would have been helpful. However the check-in staff aere more than ready to help us with our bags.

I have stayed at the white hart many times over the last 6 years and it is great to see the Hotel restored to excellent modern standards with excellent catering and decor. The view is wonderful from the dining room. It is well situated for the key things in Lewes the castle Museum, priory shops law courts etc. Lewes is always a delight and I never tire of visiting it.
The lack of parking now is a drawback. I also miss the swimming pool which I always used morning and evening.

Absolutely gorgeous historic inn and lovely room - beautifully decorated throughout the building. The room was peaceful with a really comfy bed, great shower and delicious welcome cakes. The location couldn't have been better, in such a lovely interesting town.
Slightly pricey considering breakfast wasn't included. Also would be nice if breakfast could be served till 11 on a weekend. The TV connection was poor and when we tried to connect our phones to the TV it didn't work.

The hotel is fantastic, clean the room we had was super comfy, cozy and nicely decorated. We had a drink at the bar which was nice and had an excellent dinner at the restaurant. The staff were friendly, helpful and amazing.
No so relevant for me but for those with disabilities, the hotel does not have lifts. Also the floors in the rooms may not be level so you may need to mention before booking as I believe the ground floor rooms are level

Lovely. Building and location excellent. Staff lovely. Dinner excellent. There is a real buzz about the place.
Top room was very small. We booked for 2 nights but paid nearly £100 more for second night. When getting dressed we had to negotiate around each other. Also bed was against wall so awkward to get out. It was definitely overpriced for the second night which is a shame as otherwise the hotel would be outstanding, but I would hesitate to say good value.
