Really friendly staff throughout the day. Enjoyed the 2 for 1 drinks with cheese and biscuits at 6-7pm. Light and bright superking bedroom on the top floor with luxurious bedding and towels. Breakfast was superb with the best muesli, Greek yogurt etc and hot breakfasts in the bright, sunny dining room. The shops, pubs cafes etc just around the corner. Eating at the sister hotel, The George, was excellent.
Our room could have done with a better clean as there was dust on some surfaces.. Getting suitcases up to 2nd floor up a winding narrow staircase was tricky. The corridors and stairways, as others have said, are tired and tatty

Very well situated and, unusually for Rye, with its own carpark - albeit you have to pay for it. The hotel is characterful and the room we were in - 21 - had a large roof terrace which was the stand out feature. The king size mattress was comfortable; the pillows less so. The breakfasts were good quality and the staff generally helpful. I would come again provided I could stay in room 21. I think there are other rooms in the same category without balconies or a terrace and I wouldn't be happy with those given the price charged.
The breakfast was a good spread but it was self-serve for coffee and tea. It was an over-engineered solution with an iPad with the options linked to the machine, which despite allowing you to select multiple numbers of cups, the amount of water dispensed for one cup was too much so it overflowed. It also created a bit of a queue with people waiting. It seemed to me to be a mechanism to get away with having one person on duty front of house rather than two.

Wonderful service from pleasant well mannered staff, beautiful room and bathroom, wonderful linen and pillows, very attractive decorations, a balcony too. Worth every penny. Very comfortable bed. Just a delight, and the private car park at the back is a godsend in Rye. Only £8 for 24 hours, but do download the Ringo App before you go because it takes a while, but works brilliantly .......... and so convenient because if you start to run over time, you just go onto the app and extend the time from wherever you are. Full of character. I loved it. And will be back.
Decor and furniture a tiny bit tired, and the door to the balcony was very difficult to open. However the staff managed it quickly and easily.

The hotel was in a great location. We had booked a cosy double, but when we arrived we had been upgraded to a much larger room with a separate lounge.
Everything was good

The room was incredibly comfortable. The bed was great, as were the pillows, and the room was really spacious. It even had stairs!!! The bathroom was a little small, but had a full bath in it which was greatly appreciated after exploring East Sussex in the bitter, freezing cold. The room was a little cold by the balcony doors, but the heating was warm enough that I didn't really feel it overnight. The mattress was a little hard for my taste, but the bed was comfortable overall, and I slept like a log... So well, in fact, that I slept through breakfast. I hear it's nice, though! The parking was £8/day through RingGo and is a private car park belonging to the hotel. I didn't mind paying, though, and £8 for 24h didn't seem too steep to me. The location is fantastic, and compared to the prices of other hotels in Rye, this one was much more affordable and had everything I needed. The staff were really helpful and friendly, too. Thank you! P.S. the photo of the bed all disheveled was from when I was leaving. When I arrived, it was perfectly made!!
The draught from the balcony doors wasn't very nice, but I didn't feel it as much with the curtains closed.

Very friendly, cheerful and helpful staff. Carpark at the rear - payment by mobile app. Large bedroom with view (room 7) over marshes (after we asked to move.) Super comfortable bed and nice bedding. Huge bathroom. Had asked to change rooms and this was accommodated. Large umbrella in room. Tea , coffee and biscuits provided and good hairdrier. 2 basins and huge bath towels etc. Toiletries. Heater and fan provided. Cereals, fruit and bakery items plus cooked breakfast to.order.0
Outside wood and paintwork was in a state of disrepair - shame. In the first room allocated (room 3) I couldn't open the door to balcony without a great deal.of effort as it was wedged shut. The balcony furniture couldn't be used - it was too dirty and uncared for. Bird poo on table etc. The view was of the carpark. Downstairs toilets (both) were unflushed and dirty when I went in. No 3 square pin sockets near bed . Lamps are on a lighting circuit (round pins). Long curtain at windows but linings in shreds and with holes. Balcony furniture uncared for. and dirty. Several windows cracked. We had poor weather so spent more time in the room than we anticipated.

THE ROOM WAS LOVELY CLEAN AND THE SHOWER ROOM WAS EXCELLENT I LIKED THE COMPLIMENTARY SHOWER, SHAMPOO AND CONDITIONERS THEY SMELT LOVELY. BREAKFAST WAS COOKED PERFECTLY AND ALL THE STAFF WERE LOVELY. THE ONLY THING I WOULD HAVE CHANGED WAS WE WERE ADVISED OF A CHOICE OF 2 FOR ONE WINE AND FREE CHEESE BOARD FOR THAT EVENING WHICH WAS GREAT, BUT WE HAD ALREADY BOOKED DINNER AT A NEARBY RESTURANT. HAD WE KNOWN ABOUT THIS WE WOULD HAVE STAYED IN THE HOTEL AND GIVEN THE CUSTOM TO THE HOTEL. BUT THAT WAS A BONUS THAT UNFORTUNATELY WE WERE NOT ABLE TO USE, AND IT WAS GREAT YOU OFFER SPECIALS LIKE THIS. I WILL DEFINITELY STAY WITH YOU AGAIN

Breakfast was varied and good quality. The room was recently renovated/decorated and had lovely artwork. The bed was exceptionally comfortable and all the bed linen good quality and fresh. Room was clean. Good system re whether room needed to be serviced and refreshing supplies.
Room 16 The room had only one face mirror, which was in the bathroom so only one person could get ready at once and couldn't see a mirror when drying hair. There was no full length mirror, could have been e.g. on the wardrobe door or near room entrance. There were no hooks in the bathroom or near the little area near the door, which would have made a huge difference to organise outdoor clothes or towels and clothes when showering. Just those couple of things would be good.

Stayed in Delux Double at top of hotel, beautifully redecorated and it had a deck with roof top views. The bed was an absolute delight, comfortable bed, topper and duvet. If the rest of the hotel continues to be updated as this room they will be going in the right direction for a destination like Rye.
I think breakfast missed the mark. If they want to cultivate a boutique hotel, breakfast needs to be more memorable and tasty. Again, its down to what they are trying to achieve. I appreciate the hotel business is about margins, getting staff in kitchen is a challenge, but Rye is a destination.

Room was exceptional, we had a suite (which I was not expecting). It was very comfortable and clean. I read some reviews before hand about the hotel looking a little tired. In my opinion this really only related the the stairwells in between rooms. The actual hotel room and ensuite were modern and clean, as was the bar, breakfast room and communal areas. It had a lovely arts and crafts feel, so I really wasn't bothered if there was a little bit of carpet that was on the threadbare side. They can certainly 'write in journal' that they are very good cooks of full-english breakfasts.
