The room I stayed in formed part of a converted 17th Century coaching inn. The room itself was huge with a king-sized double bed with memory foam mattress. Despite the main room having the original fireplace and roof timbers intact, the en suite bathroom was surprisingly very modern, as was the little kitchen - a bonus I wasn’t expecting. It also had a very large flat screen TV, super fast Wi-Fi and (a real blessing during my stay) air con. The entire place was spotless throughout - literally gleaming. To say I was happy is a massive understatement. But any business is only ever as good as the people who work there and, in that respect, the Villare truly excels. My undying thanks go to the lovely Moz for all her help in getting me through a very traumatic checking in day and my subsequent extended stay, the lovely Silvia for rescuing me at 6.30 in the morning when I locked myself out of my room, and the lovely Carol for her patience in helping me through my prolonged stay. The three ladies worked so hard and still nothing ever seemed to be too much trouble for them. It was such a pleasure to see them everyday and I am eternally grateful for all the good humour and kindness they showed to me. They made my stay at Villare a truly 10/10 experience,

I stayed here for 2 nights for business. When I discovered that I couldn't lock the door from the inside (which made me nervous as a solo female traveller), the hotel staff completely understood how important it was to have that extra layer of security, and they called their handyman to come fix it. The handyman also completely understood and I was incredibly grateful for him fixing, and doing it so quickly in the sweltering heat! The room was basic but with a 4 poster bed. Even with AC, I did wish they had a thinner sheet as an alternative to the duvet. Breakfast was ok. A substantial English breakfast was offered if you didn't want muesli or toast. I liked this place, and it's how nicely they treated me over the door lock that is why I'm giving them a good rating. One pro tip is bring earplugs! Because if you have a heavy footed person in the room above you, it could keep you up!
Noisy neighbours but that's not the hotel's fault!

Reception was a little unorthodox (in the Plan Burrito fast food outlet) but worked well enough. The hotel itself is obviously very old and I much preferred the antique furniture, bed and original beams in my room to the cheap magnolia blandness in modern chain hotels. In common with most old coaching hotels, the building has it's idiosyncrasies but I will always prefer these to the dull soullessness of new, purpose-built facilities. The staff were friendly and I enjoyed my stay.
There was an issue with the air conditioner in my room when I first arrived (and it was 33Âş outside!), but this was sorted out and I slept far better than my colleagues at a larger and more expensive hotel a few miles away. The shower head was a little difficult to position and could do with a bit of TLC but the shower itself was powerful and hot and so this was a minor niggle, and would not put me off recommending the property or booking there again myself.

Excellent location for our day/night in Hitchin, right in the town centre. We would definitely book again based on location. Rooms were clean even though they look dated. Bathrooms were very modern and very clean.
Rooms overlook street with restaurants and have large windows but no nets so you have to keep the curtains closed getting changed or change in the bathroom. It's not the end of the world, just a small detail. We had 2 rooms but the toilet flush wasn't working in one of them. Staff were quick to sort and moved us to a different room.

The bedroom was delightful! It was olde worlde/antique in style and I loved it. It was also nice and clean and there were plenty of tea/coffee sachets as well as toiletries.
Only 3 little things: Would have been nice to have the Wi-Fi password in the room as forgot to ask when I got my door card, then couldn't be bothered to go down later to ask! I like to have the window open at night but had to find something to hold it up as it wouldn't stay by itself. Used the sink and the plug wouldn't pop back up - wasn't a problem as I'd finished using the sink but wouldn't have been very nice for the cleaners to have to put their hands in used water.

Excellent service - I arrived around midnight, by which time Plan Burrito had closed and so I wasn't sure where to get the key. Fortunately an employee had waited up especially as they were expecting me. Despite being directly on the street, my room was fine and there was almost no noise (though in fairness this may vary as Hitchin can be busy after the pubs close).
There was an email to say that I should check in and collect the key from the restaurant, Plan Burrito, which turned out to be a takeaway fastfood joint. Obviously no problem with that. The only confusing thing was a lack of clarity as to closing and opening times of Plan Burrito. The owner might want to consider including this information.

The 4 poster bed wasn’t amazing and an excellent night sleep. The staff were all fantastic and very, very helpful. I will definitely visit again.
Was a little tricky to locate as you had to drive under an arch down a one way street, not that, that is the problem, there were some roadworks which made it tricky. Well located and ample parking space.

Good location in centre of Hitchen with parking on site. Room was clean, large with comfortable bed and good bed linen and pillows. Room a little old fashioned but had everything that you needed and good value.
Entry to hotel through a burrito cafe was a little confusing and no sign of any staff in the morning. No breakfast option that I could determine.

The room was very clean, with a huge bath tub, unfortunately it was next door to a very noisy family that kept.me awake at night. Sadly the view from the window was of the dustbin area. Overall not a bad place and certainly very good value for money 👍
Real coffee for breakfast would be a huge improvement.

Quaint little hotel in a pretty town centre. Very comfortable bed and perfectly located for a gig at the Priory Hotel.
Magnetic key lock to our room was faulty. Bathroom was adequate and clean but a little on the small size because of the old building and the breakfast was a little disappointing.
