I really love accommodations in Tokyo that are nestled away in a quieter pocket of the city/neighborhood, and this fit the bill. The tatami room was comfortable and did what it needed to do. Even rooms without a private shower also had private sinks which was nice. The ryokan also offer free little snacks, tea, coffee, and hot chocolate. It's only about a 10 minutes walk from the Hibiya line, and a 17 minute walk from Ueno. I was able to get around the city comfortably.
The common areas in the building can be chilly in the winter which made going back to the room after a shower a bit of a race. I was't really prepared for that, but I've come to learn this is a bit of think with many ryokans and older homes in general. I realized later that this place had rooms with private showers, so you can avoid that problem if you get one of those rooms, since the rooms themselves can get toasty and comfortable.

I really enjoyed my five night stay here. I loved the relatively quiet neighborhood feel of the area around the ryokan. It was still quite convenient with easy access to the Metro Iriya Station and walking distance (in my opinion) to many great parts of Asakusa and attractions like the Tokyo Skytree. I felt quite safe in the area as a solo traveler. The property has an "old school" midcentury feel and a kind and friendly family run the business - that charm adds to the experience. I found great affordable sushi and a fun little izakaya nearby, and there were multiple handy convenience stores close by for economical breakfasts and snacks. My room had a "western style" bed and private bath - it was clean, comfortable, and the room size was larger than many. I would love to return someday and stay longer - I preferred my experience here to my stays at much more costly hotels.
There was some sort of drain issue that caused the bathroom floor to flood when the draining a filled bathtub (which was apparently sealed against leaks to below, thankfully!) and that prevented me from taking any more baths, but there's nothing that could've been done to prevent that - and I reported it.

LOVED this place, one of my favorite places I stayed in a month long trip to Japan! The room was fantastic, and even had a lovely view of a little rooftop garden right outside my window. The location was fantastic, with everything you could need nearby, including late night food options. Lots of really authentic family owned businesses in the neighborhood, and a great combination of old/historical spots with quick access by bus or train to more modern spots like the Skytree. Really great for anyone who loves Showa era retro vibes- make sure to check out Silk Road coffee and Kissaten Cisz for great old school authentic coffee and small bites. The bed was SO comfortable, probably the best bed I've ever had in Japan. It was huge, with comfortable pillows and a soft mattress. The room was small but perfect for one person, maybe 2 with limited luggage. Beautiful views out of 2 large windows made the room feel more spacious. Spotlessly clean, great A/C and heat control, and really kind staff. I didn't use the public baths but they looked great and the shared bathrooms were very clean. Nice little kitchenette area with free coffee, tea, hot water, and snacks in the lobby. Absolutely no complaints!

Safe, quiet residential area. Short walk from attractions around the temple. Room was very spacious, lovely traditional room. The mattress was comfortable and did not feel like I was sleeping on the floor, also very warm (stayed in Jan).
Quiet far from stations. The closest station Iriya was not suitcase friendly as it was quite old. the Yamanote line was a 20mins walk away. If you have big suitcases, they do not have a lift to the reception floor from the ground floor. The eco light setting made the room look very creepy but maybe thats just me.

The location was in an interesting lively part of Tokyo. Easy access to the excellent public transport system. Walking distance to Ueno Park. The hotel is really old style ryokan. My old body would have liked a little thicker futon. The bath facility made up for that. Huge soaking tub! Rooms were cleaned new towel every day!
I don't like glaring over head light. Lamps are a rare convenience in down price accommodations. I forgot to bring my headlamp. Highly recommend to bring one. The concierge suggested a place to buy one and I found one there.

Extremely hospitable staff with fantastic attention to housekeeping. The rooms are cozy and enough for your bags to open fully and stack multiple pieces too. There are also multiple bathrooms across floors which helps if the one in your room is engaged. While we didn't use it, I think they also have a shared bathroom with a shower for rooms that don't have bathrooms. And everything is extremely clean! They also have a cute little lounge with probably the best hot cocoa and snacks I have had in a long while. They were extremely kind and helpful from the moment we stepped in. They don't allow outside slippers inside the room which I think is a great tradition to stick to. They are a short walk away from Sensoji and the vibes are a 10/10.
The bathroom in our room was extremely compact.

I had an absolutely wonderful stay at Sakura Ryokan during my visit to Tokyo ! The traditional tatami room was both charming and immaculately clean, offering a perfect blend of comfort and authentic Japanese culture. The ryokan’s location was nestled in a peaceful area, yet conveniently close to key transportation hubs, making it incredibly easy to reach all of Tokyo’s major attractions. Whether it was exploring the historic Asakusa district, the bustling streets of Shinjuku, or the serene Meiji Shrine, everything was just a short ride away. Overall, my experience exceeded all expectations, and I would highly recommend Sakura Ryokan to anyone seeking an unforgettable and authentic stay in Tokyo. I can't wait to return!

Nice ryokan not far from Senso-Ji temple. The staff is really kind and the Japanese-style room is also nice. It is pleasant that the room had a sink, tapwater and a mirror, so you don’t have to go to the shared toilet to brush your teeth or take a shave. Two minus points however: 1) the shared bath is on the second floor, so you have to take the elevator to take a shower. Fortunately a yukata (Japanese bathrobe) is provided, so you can go in style with the elevator to the second floor. 2) the room doesn’t have a curtain so the room gets light early.

It was very nicely located, at 7 minutes from a train station. It has some western style rooms and Japanese style rooms so we can enjoy and try the different styles. It does have a lot of facilities such as private and public bath, laundry machine, a « lounge » for common use with water and food. The staff is really nice and friendly.
The « Ryokan » style room I had was unfortunately dirty, the wall and the sliding doors had obvious dirt on it. I believe it to be hard to clean but even then, it was a bit disappointing. Also, the room isn’t soundproof at all as I could hear the neighbours laughing and even talking, which woke me up.

It's about 5 minutes from the nearest metro station, there are a couple around. Convenient location for exploring Asakusa, everything was within walking distance, also some restaurants around. Quiet area. Loved the bath, even though some people clearly didn't understand how to use the sign vacant- occupied. The ryokan has a small common area with water snacks and a microwave if you want to heat up something. Family Mart and another take away place are right around the corner. Room is not big, but since I traveled alone it was not a problem. Not sure how it works for two people though.
