The staff was absolutely amazing! My sister fell and sprained her ankle while walking back from the train station. The front desk helped us get an ambulance, organized for an interpreter to be sent to help assist with the process, and when we returned from the hospital helped us get her to our room safely as well as helping with accommodations for the injury. I cannot recommend them enough and thank you to the staff at Yuno Yado Shoei for making a very stressful situation better.

The staff was so accommodating, the rooms were so comfortable, the facilities were amazing, and the food was delicious. It was so comfortable sleeping on the futons and the amenities left in our rooms each day went above my expectations, as did the size and quality of our traditional style room and private bathroom. It was easy to get to the hotel from the metro station- and to visit any sightseeing via metro- and there are vending machines inside and close by as well as a convenience store if you need anything in the off hours. The staff was also kind enough to store our bags since we arrived earlier than check in the first day, and when we returned that evening check in was easy and we found they had already been kind enough to put our bags in our room. The onsen was so easy to access and we loved having it in the building, it was also very accessible and felt very welcoming as a foreign guest. We enjoyed it each day, so much that we found we didn’t even need any additional spa services because we were so content. We had a dinner and three breakfasts here and each meal was better than the last, and the staff was very accommodating of the toddler traveling with us. It seemed like our final breakfast was made to be even more special as they knew it was our last. If you want traditional Japanese meals than this is definitely worth the little extra to spend, and it made the start of every day so easy and calm. I would definitely recommend this ryokan to anyone staying in Kyoto, whether you want a traditional experience or not it is simply the best option out there either way. I definitely hope I get the chance to stay here again in the future. Thank you so much to all of the staff!

It would be nice if meals were included in the total cost rather than as an extra to add on, but I completely understand why they aren’t and it is definitely worth it to pay extra for them.

We recently stayed four nights at Yuno Yado Shoei in Kyoto and had a pleasant experience overall. One of the highlights was definitely the breakfast—freshly prepared every morning with a delicious variety of options that kept us looking forward to it each day. The staff were welcoming, friendly, and accommodating, making our stay more comfortable. My husband used the onsen once and found it enjoyable. It’s great to know that tattoos are no longer an issue, making it more accessible for guests. The neighborhood itself was quiet, which made for a relaxing stay. While there wasn’t a scenic view, it was understandable given the way most buildings are closely situated side by side. The room was compact, even for just three people. Sleeping on the futon (mats) was slightly uncomfortable for me, but adding an extra mat helped improve the experience. Despite that, the service and location met our expectations, and we left feeling satisfied with our stay. Would recommend this ryokan for those looking for a quiet place in Kyoto.

Room was spacious for family of 3. Breakfast was good, however, our 4 year old was not given option for breakfast meal/child meal and looked like expected to share with parents, which is fine, but toddler did not like the breakfast option. They did provide children's bowl and utensils. Service was quick and efficient. Staff was helpful in explaining how to ship luggage (btw, shipping to airport is through a nearby post office, but hotel can arrange shipping to other hotels).

It is a short walk from nearest bus/train station, would factor 10-15 mins to walk. We ended up using taxi to and from kyoto station for ease with our 4 year old.

Wonderful experience, a well presented space in a quiet neighbourhood. Non-smoking room was spotless and smelled fresh. A blackout curtain helped us to sleep to 7am (sunrise is at 5:40am and my previous accommodation had only shoji). The staff laid out our beds while we ate in the restaurant. The linen was fresh and free of any marks. The baths were well maintained and the staff gave a helpful and kind induction on check-in to describe the customs for bathing. The meals were generous and provided a great variety of delicious local foods. My 7-year old son has become a gourmet, thanks to eating the brilliant food. All the staff were friendly and respectful and I particularly loved that they checked with me that my children would require meals before we arrived, as I realise that in Japan meals are not always included for children in accommodation with half-board. Great foresight from the staff to check ahead of time. The facility had some minor signs of wear and tear but nothing unsanitary or worrying, and was well maintained for the age of the building. I felt welcomed and relaxed throughout our 3 night stay.

The location is centrally located to the train and bus station. You can definitely feel the coziness of Japan hospitality thru the friendly staff and the place itself.

The guest house really has Japanese flair, the onsen is really nice, the location is quiet but central.

As vegetarians, you can't really try the food. We asked for vegetarian options but were told there are none. Since we really wanted to try the food, we ordered the dishes that seemed to be vegetarian in the menu - but even if the meat wasn't mentioned in the menu, almost all of the dishes contained meet. So, to have at least a few vegetarian (or even vegan) options would be great.

The hotel was excellent. We enjoyed the public bath house and the restaurant. The bath house was large, with 3 different soaking areas, a sauna, and a cold plunge (worth noting, they switch sides between men and women each day, so the women had the bigger side when I was there). One of the hot baths was outside, and the weather was perfectly cool. The room was beautiful with traditional tatami mats and futon beds. I would highly recommend this hotel for anyone wanting an experience that captures the beauty and traditions of Japan.

We enjoyed every part of our stay

The rooms, baths, and meals were all amazing! It was our first time staying at a ryokan and we had a great time. The tatami mat rooms came with sitting mats and a table, which gets changed out for sleeping mats during dinner time. There are two baths (wood theme and stone theme) where one is assigned to men and other to women. The genders switch on a daily basis. So to experience both baths, we took a bath in the evening and in the morning after. Our half board meal package included a dinner and a breakfast with a large assortment of traditional Japanese food. The included yukata and slippers were a nice touch to feel comfortable during our stay. It was an incredible deal to have food and accommodations for the price we paid.

I didn't see any clocks in the bath, aside from the one in the sauna, so it was difficult to tell when we got close to closing time (11pm). A man outside the women's bath entrance started yelling to hurry up because the bath was closed, as we were getting ready to leave. We would have preferred a female staff member come in and tell us to leave so she wouldn't have to yell across the curtain. I can accept that it may be a cultural choice to not have clocks or warnings to preserve the atmosphere of the bath, but we definitely would have appreciate those more than the man outside the entrance.
