Very private and tucked away in a nice part of town. It was warm, clean and friendly with great staff and amenities. The aesthetics were a luxurious traditional vibe. I had many requests during my time at Kaya including booking a doctors appointment and the staff were really accommodating despite how annoying even I thought I was getting. Absolutely loved the hotel's efforts to be environmentally friendly. Bicycle rental shop located a few mins walk away just one street back from the hotel.
Only one of the pods for the machine in the room was a coffee and there were two of us. The pods were replenished the following day and I'm sure I could have asked for another one or had a teapod instead so maybe it's my own attitude I didn't like.

The property was very cleaned. I like that the toilet is separated from the bathroom so you could use both at the same time. I like that if you don't request for housekeeping, they'll give you new sets of complete toiletries and leave them by your door. I love everything!!
Hehehe it's a bit of walk to the nearest train station/subway. But that's okay

Situated a little way out of the centre of Kyoto, it's on a number of very useful bus routes and a 10 minute walk from a Karasuma line station, so it's a little quieter than centre hotels but still very convenient. The staff were very friendly and efficient, the place was spotless and the free drinks in the afternoon quite welcome after a hot day of exploring. The bed was quite firm, which I love but is a bit marmite (some don't like it). Decor was modern in a traditionally inspired style and seemed very up to date. Bathroom was great. Lovely rain head on the shower and the bath was very deep.
Not much storage space in the room - there was a rail with hangers on and there were four small drawers. There was no view to speak of - looked out onto rooms on the other side of a void, couple of metres away. The windows had moveable paper screens and blinds to compensate, in the theme of the room, and it was plenty light enough still. The lift security is a bit tight, having to tap to call it and when you're in the lift. The chairs in the room weren't very comfortable.

I loved returning to this hotel each day. Immediately, you have a lavender/rosemary? scent when walking in. The hotel is bright, ambient, and comforting. Upon check in we were offered a cup of tea and our luggage was waiting for us as we utilised the luggage transfer option offered in Japan. We also had the breakfast option and we took advantage of it every morning! They offered both a Japanese breakfast, and more American style breakfast which was so much appreciated. They also offered, fresh greens, yogurt, and fresh fruit as well. In the room there was a nice storage area to keep your shoes, jackets, dresses, day bags and we made use of it all every day. The room was cleaned every day and that service was very much appreciated although I didn't appreciate being told by the cleaners at 10:15AM I had a half hour to get out of the room for them to provide their cleaning services, as I had been suffering a migraine that morning and so moving about speedily was not really a priority! I was under the impression the signs for cleaning had to be out on the door by noon in order for cleaning services, so I was a bit confused why I had a half hour time limit to leave for them to clean the room at 10:15am, I understand they are trying to do their jobs though. Other than that, the service was impeccable and very helpful counter staff who would call us a taxi whenever we needed it, assisted with restaurant reservations, and also they assisted with the luggage transfer back to Tokyo!
The room could be a bit squishy, but still worth it to stay in! The room for the toilet was very, very tiny, but the shower and bathtub area made up for such a tiny toilet area.

Away from the hustle and bustle but at the same time few minute walk from convenience store and castle/ palace.
The wait for the meal at the hotel restaurant was way too long. Breakfast was great : don’t get me wrong. But ordering dinner was a different story - if you are trying to grab a quick bite or if you are hungry don’t even bother. There are few good options within few minutes walking. It took an hour to get panini and a chicken sandwich. And we were one of two tables being served. There’s is no reason why panini and chicken sandwich should take an hour. That said the waitress was very nice and friendly. She apologized for long wait but when you are hungry, or with hungry kids, good luck.

The room was spacious and had a good selection of facilities. The area of the hotel was near local subways and buses, allowing travel to tourist spots throughout Kyoto. There are also great restaurants nearby within walking distance of the hotel. The staff were incredibly kind and courteous throughout our stay, providing plenty of amenities regularly so we never ran out of clean towels.
The door into the shower room/bathroom had been misaligned on it's frame so we had to use the emergency open method to get in and then had to fix it ourself which took a bit of time away from relaxing on the first night, however once this was fixed it was an incredibly pleasant stay.

This was a great hotel for our stay in Kyoto. The room was decorated really nicely, with autumnal leaf wallpaper. The bed was really comfortable and we had a great shower. The staff in the hotel were brilliant, incredibly polite, friendly and helpful. We loved the hotel bar, which was great for a nightcap after a longday of sightseeing. The location was great, very close to Nijo Castle, Imperial palace and many great coffee shops and restauraunts. Also very handy for travellers who are on a long holiday and need to wash clothes there is a great little laundry place only a 2 minute walk away. Would definitely stay here again.

the size and interior of the room was really nice, we enjoyed most that we could open the window for some fresh air and that there were a lot of light options to change the atmosphere in the room. We also liked the design of the sink being in the room, but splitting the bath and bedroom area. & free drink and sake was amazing too! :)
nothing to mention here! in our opinion the daily cleaning of rooms and changing of bed sheets is in general unnecessary and not environmental friendly, but we have made use of the "no clean needed" sign.

This is the BEST Best Western I have EVER stayed in. From the moment you walk into the lobby you feel more at ease. We loved our bathroom in the room, it had a bath/shower combo which was perfect. Two people can easily shower comfortably without anyone getting cold. Very spacious room.
The breakfast was very sparse and not worth the cost. The location was a little out of the way from attractions in the eastern/southern part of Kyoto (Gion, Sannenzaka) but not too far from the Bamboo forest.

Kaya Hotel is near to Nijo castle on the small local street. A boutique hotel Japanese style with nice decor, with all facilities, well thought out to the smallest details to serve the client! Good breakfast. Good access to everything. Very good impression worth of the money paid.
When need a taxi in the evening, a staff told you better go to the street to catch it, that is can not be. Next day worried to come to the station, but if was another shift , they called a taxi , no issues.
