The location and helpful staff, who all spoke English, were the standouts. The beds were extremely comfortable. Having said that, there were quite a few small things that bothered us. We found the air in the rooms to be very dry, and had to ask for a humidifier, which they supplied. The laundry dryers were hopeless, and we would have appreciated some more hooks or drawers for clothes. Our Classic King room was very clean but spartan - no cutlery, no plates, not even instant coffee. It seemed designed to force you to their cafe, where the coffee was fine but a little overpriced. And the cups in the room were metal - they looked cool, but were actually too hot to pick up when full of freshly made tea.

Kabin is a must stay at Kyoto, it had everything that we expected and beyond. Room was quite good size, check in was as easy as it can get with their own app ( which of course I downloaded ) and location was a big plus, and the best part was we had the best coffees of our Japan trip ( and believe me it's a big complement coming from Melbourne coffee lovers). I would HIGHLY recommend this to all my friends. And we stayed here for 5 nights and didn't have a single problem. They had their towels and all accessible to you anytime you want, instead of waiting for service staff to come and change for you.

The location is perfect for someone who enjoys staycation like me. It’s in the walking distance to the downtown. The staffs are super friendly and helpful. They all speak English so there is no problem with communication. I also love the fact that they have this cafe with excellent coffee (go try their Caramel Latte, it’s amazing). The restaurant also provides amazing breakfast. I tried Arepa for the first time and it’s just so delicious.

We loved the sleekness of the lobby and bar area and the rooms were nice and spacious. Loved the shower and the size of our bed was perfect. We heard almost no noise from neighbours or outside which was awesome.
It was a little too far from the main areas for us. After 20k steps in a day, walking the extra way home in 35 degree heat sucked. We would have preferred staying somewhere closer to Gion and Pontocho (however if it weren’t so hot and if our feet weren’t so sore this wouldn’t have mattered). Sorry but the pillows are also terrible and the prices at the bar and cafe are pretty steep. Also you couldn’t see outside from your room as the glass was frosted.

room is very big and nicely furnished. i like the tree in the lobby and the general hipster vibe at the hotel. It's a modern hotel for modern young people.
Since it's a very modern hotel, hotel key is an app, everything's an app and lacks general old school payment with cash options and check-in could be more "humanly" then only-app oriented

The lobby and entire downstairs area are very nicely furnished, and the restaurant is very nice as well. The room was clean and comfortable. It was a bit quirky with the sink located in the bedroom instead of the bathroom. The bed and pillows were very comfortable, and we slept great. The location is away from the main tourist area. There is a metro stop fairly close by. Unfortunately, we ended up taking expensive taxi rides to the bamboo forest and other attractions. You can walk to shopping and restaurants, and the beautiful river area. We felt at home in the Kabin, but for us it was very expensive because of the cherry blossom season, and our late booking of the room.
The room feels like a very high-end hiking room. It fits the Kyoto vibe, but not for the price that we paid. I would not recommend it to some friends because of the sink located in the bedroom and some of the furnishings being a bit rough. We did very much enjoy our stay with no issues!

The best thing about this accommodation is its location. It's in a quiet neighborhood but at the same time it's near to a couple of convenience stores and temples for sightseeing. You need to take a 10-15 minute walk to get to the commercial district for the big malls, bus stops, and more restaurant options. I also like that the bath area is more spacious compared to others we experienced in Japan. The staff are mostly foreigners so it's easy to communicate in English.
The trash bin is really small in the room. Though there's no big issue in requesting for trash pick-up every morning, it might be nice to have a larger trash bin inside the room.

This property was a more modern Western style hotel. The room was quite spacious and well laid out with a lot of free amenities provided including toiletries and umbrellas during the rainy times. They also had a bar and restaurant on the ground floor. The bathroom was clean and decently spaced out and the room that we were given had a lot of natural light. There was also a great luggage storage service at the sister location less than a block away which was open 24 hours. The location was also decent as it let us walk to the shopping areas as well as some of the sites in Gion. It was about a 5-minute walk to the closest bus stop and 15-minute walk to a train stop which seemed okay for Kyoto. The neighbourhood it was located in had a lot of restaurants and cafes that could be explored.
The bed was a little bit too hard for our liking and the sink being out in the open in the room rather than in the bathroom or in a separated space was a bit odd and uncomfortable especially since we were sharing among friends, it was more of a matter of privacy as well as space for everyone to set up that toiletries etc.

-Modern, with neutral tones and cosy lighting -Spacious -Bright with a lot of natural light -Amenities including towels available in the corridor -Fridge and kettle in the room -Well located with a konbini nearby, in a rather quiet street yet close (10-15min) from more lively areas -Small table with two chairs appreciated allowing for computer work -Nice bathroom/shower (unlike most ´plastic cabin bathrooms’ found in a lot of hotels) -No key card: code used to unlock the bedroom -Pictures matching reality I was afraid this would only be a trendy place catering to specific type of people, with overly friendly staff but this was not the case.
-Heavily insisting on online check-in to “skip the queue”, coming with a few reminder emails. -Extending the stay by one night was not easily done via the reception who had a hard time seeing availability. Using booking.com was smoother and led to more advantageous price. This led to a forced a check out at 11:00, and a new completion of the online check-in (which failed). They however offered to keep the bags. My sense is that the team may be less accustomed to processes -hence the app-, however they always aimed to help which is what to keep in mind.

We really enjoyed our stay at Kabin Kyoto. Nice room, adequate storage space for unpacking, good laundry facilities in the hotel, good wifi, and a good location not far from Nishiki Market. We visited in October and were surprised by the crowds of tourists - turns out it's leaf-changing season. Every tourist attraction we visited was packed. But our hotel was an oasis of calm, clean, and quiet. Nice cocktail bar in the lobby, many convenience stores nearby (easy to buy cold coffee at night and enjoy in the room in the morning).
We landed at Osaka Airport and took the airport bus to Kyoto Station, then took a taxi from there (about $15, booked via Uber). It's not as convenient to public transit if you're traveling with suitcases - maybe a 10-15 minute walk with your rolling bags from the subway to the hotel. Without suitcases, we didn't mind the walk to the subway for day trips to Nara and Kobe.
