Right across from one of the best brunch places ever: Morning Glory. Great location, incredibly helpful staff (when does a front-desk guy see you entering the lobby after a few drinks at 11pm at night, hop up from his chair, and hit the elevator button so you can go straight up to your room?? Amazing!). All kinds of great Italian people, cafes, and eateries in the area. Fun little speakeasy bar around the corner, False Idol. Nice overnight parking spot just a 7-minute walk away for just $12.50 (we used the Spothero app). Really enjoyed the stay. Thanks to LA PENSIONE!
Room was a bit tight with a smaller TV, but overall clean and comfortable and good value for money. Homeless guy was laying down in front of the entrance and offering us a few choice words around 7pm dinner time, but he was gone when we returned around 11pm later on ...

This is a perfect location from which to explore San Diego, whether it's walking, by bus, or Lyft. Yet the important stuff is still nearby: food, pharmacy, farmers market, breweries. Staff is very friendly.
There are signs the hotel is still recovering from COVID. Our A/C unit was weaker than expected and probably needed replacement or maintenance. Our reading lights cut out within two minutes of being turned on. I suspect when there's available cash ownership will do a deeper dive.

The location was perfect. Walking distance to everything. Delicious food nearby. Reasonable pricing. The rooms were small but all we needed and appeared to be recently upgraded. I would stay again.
Little loud on Saturday night but it all cuts off at 10pm so not too bad and worth it for the location. I recommend not having a car, if you are staying in the city I wouldn't rent one as there are tons of Uber/lyfts. The parking that exists is extremely limited and they said beginning March 2024 they will not have any parking. You will have to use public parking and the closest one I noticed on my walks was a few blocks away.

The staff at La Pensione Hotel was superb; friendly, professional, nothing is too much trouble. The attached cafe was perfect for breakfast, as the hotel doesn't offer any options. The room (facing the street) was small, but functional and airy. Everything was extremely clean. Surprisingly, for a hotel in the middle of Little Italy, it was very quiet at night.
The lighting in the shower/toilet area could have been better. It was very dark; maybe a higher wattage overhead?

Two things: The staff. They were amazing. I got into SD way earlier than check in so I asked for an early check in, which they granted. I actually showed up a little earlier than early check in to drop off my bags and, to my surprise, they were able to get me in at that time - and the cleaning crew worked extra hard to get the room turned for me. The location. Wow. It is in the heart of Little Italy - the only time I had to Uber was when I went to Petco fir a baseball game. The rest of the time I was able to walk everywhere. Plenty of restaurants and bars nearby and on Saturday there was an amazing flea market right outside the hotel (I could see some of the stalls from my room)
The hotel is a bit older and I think it could use some remodeling/deep cleaning. A gym upgrade would be nice, too. Luckily, I have a friend that lives within in walking distance so I was able to without at his gym.

They were able to hold our luggage before check in and they even extended this courtesy after check out. Everyone was so friendly and helpful. I had no idea that that this property was literally in the heart of little Italy. This is the only place I will stay every time I come to San Diego. 10 out of 10!!! Also want to mention the design/paint of the building is gorgeous! Black doors and trim with gray paint and wallpaper. Not an aspect is overlooked!

Located in the heart of Little Italy.
Minimal size of gym facility and the need to ask front desk staff for a key. Hotel could do a better job to advise guests of on-site amenities. Didn’t know that water is provided at the front desk if asked or that coffee and tea were available…… in the conference centre. We learned this through other guests comments.

Location, location, location. Right in the heart of Little Italy yet very quiet. Easy booking, check-in and check-out. Comfortable room. Good for single travellers given the incredibly close proximity to restaurants, cafes & the trolley plus waterfront. Would recommend and stay again on my own or with my partner.
Perhaps a coffee maker in the room? Proximity to very good coffee in India st makes up for that though.

Absolutely loved the location. It's was cute and quaint hotel. It still needs to updating, repairs on some of the rooms and amenities. The rooms as very small, but fun- especially those overlooking the courtyard. The views of the courtyard could be improved by removing the canopies below so the courtyard was more visible. It would give off a better image of the way things look in Italy. The location was so good.
Some things were broken in the room. The rooms were super small. The canopies in the courtyard unnecessarily blocked the views of rooms facing the courtyard. I recommend removing them.

the location of the hotel was fabulous, right in Little Italy and the staff was very helpful. We had a parcel which was delivered to the hotel for us after we left and they were kind enough to post it a forwarding address
The room was a little bit small and would have liked tea and coffee facility in the rooms, rather that go downstairs in the conference room to get a cup of coffee or tea.
