The Wheatland's Lodge is an old style B+B Hotel with lovely rooms and a restaurant and Bar. I had an excellent Full English breakfast; which is a good reason to stay at a traditional b+b hotel. Its becoming less common to have breakfast included now. Many guests houses either charge extra or do not bother at all. The Loction being a few minutes walk from the old city was perfect and useful tourism advise was given
Free parking was essential but tricky for anyone with a large car

Staff, especially Fiona were very welcoming when we arrived - complimentary coffee was a treat. It is obvious that all the staff have been trained to be very polite and helpful.
We couldn’t find anything to dislike

From the get go we were pleased with the hotel. Reception staff were friendly, helpful and efficient. The Hotel is made up from 4 or 5 magnificent Victorian houses with high ceilings, feature fireplaces and lovely carved stair cases and skirting. They are behind a large lawned front garden and the buildings are floodlit at night. It's warm and inviting and clearly Laurel & Hardy are much admired as there are many photographic references to them in the common areas. The room was spacious, well equipped and warm. Bathroom was spacious too. Breakfast was exceptional. Cooked to perfection, a good sized helping and lots of choice. Coffee was tasty and not at all sharp. extra toast was never a problem and a nice touch were the hot French pastries coming out of the kitchen towards the end of the sitting. The Hotel is a 10 minute walk from the Station and is even closer to one of the Town Gates. I would wholeheartedly recommend this Hotel.
Nothing.

Owners are fantastic and nothing was too much trouble. Lovely and helpful receptionist. Room was very comfortable and we were in a great location for York. Would stay there again in a heartbeat
Being told in no uncertain terms that we could not order a sandwich at 4.10pm as we should have ordered before 4pm. (Paperwork in room says up until 8pm). There was no vacancy in dining room and was told that they were very busy and the chef did not have time to make sandwiches. (Not what was said but the way it was told). This was on the Saturday night and the owners were not there. This is the only complaint at this wonderful hotel.

Hotel is in the perfect loication, near enough the centre to walk and far enough away to avoid noise and bustle. On arrival you are greeted to a beautifully kept front lawn and garden sitting area outside is perfect for a sunny day. The hotel itself is absolutely spotless and the staff are the crown jewel here as they are warm friendly and jhelpful. The food is excellent and the staff again very quick to attend to you at breakfast, also more than happy to cater to your requirements regarding breakfast. We only took bed and breakfast, but I have stayed here before so know the other meals are excellent. Lovely wee bar for a quiet drink as well
really need to nitpick to come up with negative comments and probably only one would be the plug for the sink in the bathroom needs renewed, (tarnished).

We had a nice welcome on our arrival at the hotel. The hotel is located just off a main road on a quieter side street and is set back with gardens to the front. We liked the location which is reasonably easy walking distance from the historic heart of York. We had a comfortable twin bedded room with an ensuite shower room. We had a hearty breakfast each day served by friendly staff.
There was nothing to complain about but there is no lift, so this might be a problem for travellers with mobility problems, although I think from memory that there might be at least one ground floor room.

Caitlyn on reception was welcoming friendly and really pleasant. Also Lucy who was a server in the restaurant was amazing. My son has autism and is very picky with his food she was patient and kind and the 2nd day she remembered what he had ordered the day before and he was really happy that she knew exactly what he wanted. Lovely staff overall.
There wasn't really anything I didn't like. Although in reviews it was stated as a lovely family hotel.. it was full of older people. I didn't see any other children or younger people on our visit at the hotel and there was nothing there for their entertainment. Altho our stay wasn't affected and we had a lovely time.

Very friendly staff, my room was very clean, the breakfast was delicious with a lot of choice especially the poached eggs.
I had asked for a walk-in shower due to issues with my knees I was shown to my room on the top floor which was very spacious but had a shower over the bath. I went back to reception who struggled to find me my requested room, they did eventually so I had to climb back up two floors of stairs to find a very small room but it did have a walk-in shower. The hotel needs a lot of upgrading, ie: lifts to first and second floor and also to sort out the room numbers which were very haphazard and not in any for of order, it is so easy to take the wrong set of stairs (especially to the top floor) only to find you have to go down again to use another set of stairs (4 sets in all).

Having stopped before we knew that the service was second to none. On arrival, we were greeted with a friendly face and offered refreshments. Throughout the stay, the staff were approachable and friendly. The breakfast was fantastic and the staff were happy to get you more if required. We were lucky this time to have a room with a bath, which after a lot of walking around the city was a bonus! The hotel is located about five minutes, walking distance from Mickelgate, an ideal location. We are looking forward to our next visit in September which we came straight home and booked! Thank you to everyone at Wheatland Lodge...keep up the fantastic work and we will see you in September.
Can't think of anything

The staff and management are really nice and do genuinely look after all the residents the hotel is quirky and a bit dated but it feels very homely, in the evening the bar area is a bit like a social club, everyone seems to get on well and the atmosphere is very relaxed The breakfast is excellent! all freshly cooked and served promptly and the staff are excellent
there are a lot stairs and no lift service, so could be a bit awkward for the less abled the rooms are a bit dated but clean and adequate
