We stayed here because the price was discounted for a larger room and it has convenient parking (£15 charge), with breakfast included in the price, and we needed to be in Winchester to meet friends. The location for the High Street is excellent. Reception is good. We were very happy with our stay. The room and bed is most comfortable. The shower is fantastic. Everything is clean. Kettle and Nespresso in the room and complimentary water. TV. Good lighting. The staff are helpful. The restaurant buffet breakfast is excellent, with a varied choice. I would recommend it.
Without the discounted price, and according to the website prices when booking direct, we could not have afforded to stay and would not have looked at The Winchester further. That is obviously pertaining to us though. Also only a small advisory to be aware of: When the car park directly next to the hotel is full, you can get a small map from Reception to find the other car park, which is also attached to the hotel, but you have to drive a few of the town's streets to get to the entrance. That's ok if there are 2 of you in the car. It does also state this in the information when you book, so just be aware if you are an anxious driver.

The location was very convenient and near downtown. This is a historic hotel, the garden is extremely beautiful and a beautiful way to enjoy the evening outside. The sitting areas and bar are spacious and very comfortable. The staff is excellent.
The first room didn’t have a wardrobe to hang your clothes nor a place to open your luggage except the floor. We were moved to the Jane Austen room, which was beautiful and spacious, had an area to hang your clothes, as well as a bench to open your suitcases. The view from the windows is a parking lot and two dumpsters. There are beautiful drapes, so it camouflages this area if left closed.

Hotel is in a good location and garden is beautiful and could have been used after breakfast for coffee or for residents not eating but no staff around. Missed opportunity.
Reception staff did not offer any assistance with bags and I struggled to find my room or engage in any conversation offering a map of Winchester and not tell me anything about dining room and offers the Hotel may have or the WIFi . Didn’t use it so missed out on an opportunity. Staff at breakfast didn’t engage in any conversation. Buffet breakfast was good but again staff should be more attentive. Reception on checking out didn’t ask me anything.

We’ve stayed here several times. It’s convenient for sightseeing in the city and for shops and restaurants. The overnight parking fee has gone up to £15 but it’s safe and easy to access from the hotel. The one way system is a bit confusing if you don’t know Winchester. We had a super, huge, fish and chip dinner in the restaurant and prices were comparable with restaurants in the High St. Staff are friendly and beds very comfortable. Rooms tastefully furnished and clean. Personally I’d prefer a shower as getting into a bath is a bit precarious for older folk. However, they did provide an anti/slip mat.

Great location. Very helpful staff. Good breakfast and nice bar area. Garden was very pleasant and a relaxing sun trap. We had an issue with the bathroom. This was raised with the maintenance team and sorted very quickly. Very short walk into the historical centre of Winchester.
We dropped lucky with parking, as someone leaving the front car park just as we arrived. We were aware of parking to the rear of Royal Winchester Hotel, but hadn't seen any clear instructions, so unable to locate when we initially arrived. So we went around the block and found the front car park.

The hotel is close to the High Street, so great for shopping, eating and access to the Great Hall. The garden is nice and great for working outside or a little break. Breakfast selection was good.
The bed was made up of two singles that were different (put together to make 1 bed) - one side sinking more than the other which was firm. It made sleeping difficult. There's no air conditioning, only windows that slightly open. The breakfast crew were late to open and have food ready for 7am both days. It's a bit of a walk to the train station. The internet connection wasn't good.

Great central location. Very clean. Lovely wood panelling decor, marble and layout of the lounge. The staff were very pleasant. We didn't try the restaurant but the food looked good from what we could see passing on our way to our room.
It could do with modernizing, whilst retaining the lovely decor. Considerations could be made for smart TV's for example in the rooms, giving guests the option to log into their Netflix, Apples accounts etc as the terristrial channels may not be to everyones taste, that, with the outdatedness of the picture quality. The parking is very expensive and it disappointing that we were not offered an alternative. We figured it out and managed to park in Winchester for free. This is just knitpicking on a otherwise VERY LOVELY hotel.

Location was great, right in the middle of Winchester so everywhere is walkable. Old building with high ceilings and lots of period features. Lovely conservatory breakfast room/restaurant over looking the garden, and a great breakfast too (well worth it). Rooms were modern and spacious, with everything you might want. All the staff are so friendly and helpful. Really relaxing atmosphere, Best place we've stayed for years.
Nothing we didn't like. Only thing to mention is the car park is quite small, but not surprising considering where it is located in an old historic city. We were lucky and got in, but it's not too far from public car parks (although you'll need to follow the one-way system).

Great location. Quiet street but just a short distance from the high street and cathedral. Room was a good size and clean. Staff were welcoming. Hotel itself was attractive with garden dining room and gardens, which we had not expected. On a warmer day it would be lovely to sit in before going to dinner. Also good to see that dogs were welcome.
Hotel carpark was expensive compared to council carparks around the city centre. As we arrived on the Sunday of a bank holiday, we were able to park for free in the council run carpark. E.g. Chesil carpark allows 24 hours carparking.

The staff were very helpful and the main building is impressive. Breakfast was delicious. The bed was very comfortable and we had a good night's sleep. There is also a car park at the back of the hotel and it is easy to walk into the centre of Winchester. The bar was spacious and comfortable and the barman very helpful.
Our only criticism is that our room was one of many in a modern part of the building and whilst it was functional, it needed updating - walls, carpet, curtains, furniture, all could have done with an upgrade. The bathroom also was tired and needed refreshing. It may be that there are bedrooms in the main part of the hotel which are in a better condition but the one we were in didn't match the promise of the exterior and main parts of the hotel.
