The staff, from receptionist to bar staff and especialy the waiting staff were all welçoming friendly and helpful, nothing was too much trouble, the evening meal was five star all served piping hot and all the deserts were excellent, never kept waiting.
Confusion over costings for use of spa facilities, was told initially that it was £15.00 per person to use all facilities including the outside hot tubs for 4 hours, and when we went to book it was £15.00 for three hours and an extra £15.00 for outside hot tubs, also was advised robes were provided, and again on paying to use facilities was advised they were only for people having Spa treatments, this needs to be addressed really :)

Before booking I called the hotel and asked about what time the bar closes and they replied early hours in the morning, when we checked in I again asked the same question and got the same answer which were great. We went out and did what we wanted came back and walked into bar area about 10.50 hoping to get a couple of drinks each and when asked we where told that the bar was closed, I then said when we checked in they said it’s open till early hours and the 2 staff said no they are all closed, so we just had to go back to the cottage with no drink. I did speak to the staff on the morning and they said that shouldn’t have happened to guest's and sorry,

Our room was amazing, we thought they'd put us in the wrong room. The room was huge and the bathroom too. Breakfast was great, but you weren't able to choose your own cooked breakfast so you could choose what you wanted, as it was brought to you. However the breakfast was very nice. The lounge area was so sumptuous, and the chairs were huge. You could order at the bar, and the staff would check where you were sitting, and bring your drink to you. We didn't have dinner, but asked if we could have some chips, which were brought to us in the lounge. Staff, rooms and the hotel in general did not disappoint. Extremely luxurious, and would stay in the hotel again

Beautiful location and friendly staff. Rooms were clean and pleasant. Food excellent and available facilities with the spa are very good but expensive as not included with the hotel charge although there is a free swim available between 0700-0900. A heavy snowfall overnight enhanced the beauty of the property. There is also a very enjoyable and well kept golf course surrounding the lake worthy of a round.
Beds/mattresses in the “house” on the island and pillows in the double room were uncomfortable (too hard) The use of the spa outdoor whirlpools between 1800 and 2100 were an additional charge of £35 which is excessive as it only includes robes and towels gym swim sauna and outdoor whirlpools. £10 pp for that would have been more reasonable.

Stayed for a wedding party. As the party was in the main house and we were staying in the Hall, the receptionist kindly relocated us to the hotel as the weather was bad and to avoid us getting wet, very thoughtful gesture 😀 Room was large and warm and had proper Yorkshire teabags, bonus!
Nothing really,. Just a personal thought about lighting as not really positioned well for women who are staying and need to get made up. The room we had was quite dark, however it's an old style hotel and I'm sure womens make up needs weren't prioritised way back then 😁

Staff were utterly delightful. Location was divine. The shower was most enjoyable with plenty of pressure so that my body has never felt so clean and refulgent. The whole refit of the hotel was well done and blended old and new effectively.
Unfortunately there were no hooks in the room or bathroom on which to hang outdoor clothes or towels. Breakfast and food at dinner was mostly enjoyable: - however, the bread was so disappointing. Why in such a beautiful hotel do you have sliced blotting paper for bread at breakfast? Poached eggs on blotting paper rather than on a fresh local loaf or sourdough was such a disappointment. The best hotels have delicious fresh locally baked bread at the breakfast table. That's the main downside - fussy I may be - but quality of food is so important these days.

Staff were excellent - evening dinner and breakfast was very good.
My rom was very close to the kitchen area - unfortunately some of the smells spread to the hallway areas adjacent to the room. My room was also in a very dark area/corner of the building and hd very little natural light. To be fair i could have discussed about a room change but was only staying for one night so didn't bother. Had I been staying longer then a may have discussed this with the staff about a room change.

Waterton Park is a beautiful setting, and the swimming pool has a great view over the lake. We were in the newer building (i.e. not on the island in the lake) and the room was huge and shower very powerful.
Included in the price for the room, you can only use the swimming pool, jacuzzi, steam room and sauna between 7am and 9am in the morning (outside of those times an additional charge is payable) which is a bit limiting.

Very friendly staff - always willing to help The location was superb - the hotel is on an island in a lake surrounded by beautiful gardens. It was quiet and relaxing. For a Georgian hotel the plumbing was good and the shower reliable!! Excellent fish and chips in the cafe. The hotel's history is interesting: first known nature reserve (albeit created from sugar plantation wealth) owned by the inventor of the bird box of with potential for further recognition as a heritage green space. Make more of the history as a selling point.
Minor glitches rather than dislikes. The Grand Cafe was functional but in such a green area why the plastic flowers - lose them please. The menu was a bit pretentious but the food not very exciting. Running a hotel is expensive but the room was a bit tired looking (chipped wall paper); the bathroom sundries were sparse and loo roll supply mean. Not within the hotel's control - phone signal so weak as to be almost non existent

The staff was lovely and the room was very spacious in a lovely location as Our room over looked the river
The bed was like sleeping on a rock it was so hard and extremely uncomfortable and the room was very dated and could of done with being decorated and the bath was dirty But they came straight away and cleaned it when we told them about it .I ordered a steak in the restaurant and it was stone cold when I got it . The biggest annoyance was if you wanted to use the swimming pool you had to pay an extra charge of £39 per person which we felt was ludicrous and plus it was only set times that you could use it aswell
