Sauna, steam room.& pool nice and clean..
Food in the brasserie could be a little more high quality or rosette. Blackberries with the duck very gritty seedy try passing it through a sieve. The club at cotten Mill doesn't warrant an upgrade of £120 per person. Breakfast could offer more variety such as crushed avocado & poached egg, pancakes

We loved the room, decor, level of service and the gym and classes, attention has been paid to every detail and it really shows. Each restaurant and room has been carefully and tastefully designed, and the level of service makes the whole hotel feel like a place to really unwind. The food standard in both restaurants was exceptional as well, especially Omboo, and there were plenty of vegan options at all meals, including breakfast which is where many hotels don't put the effort in.
Having to pay extra for the spa garden, at £120 per person is steep, this really should be included, or at least with some timed entry during the stay. There is limited water in the main spa area as well, with only one fountain that ran warm.

Hotel is beautiful with excellent facilities and feels very comfortable, spacious and with lots of lovely sitting areas. Very nice terrace outside the bistro and lovely grounds. I visited the spa- the included one, on a Saturday morning. It’s large, very good steam and sauna, large pool and has the added bonus of some sun beds outside in the sun. It wasn’t busy and was very enjoyable. My husband had a medical problem and the staff could not have been more helpful. In fact the staff really made our trip. Bathrobes and slippers are included, so you can walk around and feel comfortable. Excellent shower in the bathroom and our room was very quiet. Breakfast was busy but plenty of choice. You can order an omelette if you like instead of self service.
It’s a bit out of the way, you couldn’t really walk along the busy country lane to get to St Albans. We had a Plush room, very small, no fridge or turn down service. Although we did have lovely country side views. A bit pricey for the size of the room and the location.

We visited for our anniversary and the staff were all exceptional, so many of them went out of their way to wish us happy anniversary and they had put some lovely little touches in our room. We arrived at midday as we'd seen we could use the spa facilities from then, before checking in time at 3pm. Luckily our room was already ready so we got to settle in, wander around the grounds and explore before heading to the spa. We had lunch at the Conservatory which was nice and simple and dinner at Omboo which was great, a really lovely atmosphere and deliciously flavoured food. We also had some cocktails at the Octagon bar which was cosy and relaxed. We stayed in a chic room in the main house which was a nice size, very comfortable and quiet with views over the grounds. There was a good selection at breakfast, the scrambled eggs were incredible! Although I'd advise getting there before 9am as it got a lot busier after this time.
We stayed on a Saturday and didn't have access to The Club at Cottommill which was fine by us. Cottonmill though did get busy after 3pm and there was no seating around the pool area available after this time. Also there were limited vegetarian options available for lunch and dinner at the restaurants, which is why we chose to eat at Omboo which had more selection. The Brasserie only has 2 mains options, one being a burger and the other seemed pretty unusual so something to consider if you don't eat meat or fish.

Our room was of a good size, nicely decorated, clean and well equipped. The bed was extremely comfortable and we slept very well. The staff are very attentive and when things weren't quite right (with our breakfast order), they were corrected very quickly. Room service was particularly good, much shorter wait times compared to any other hotel I've stayed at. Dinner at the brasserie was top notch. On the first day we used the Cottonmill spa with access provided as part of the room package...again these were excellent, but on our checkout day, we upgraded to the Club spa facilities - which are simply world class. Already looking at deals to come back later in the year - Sopwell is a gem.
What's not to like about Sopwell? I'd struggle to criticise it...ok, one thing, at a push I'd say the music used in the spa...well sometimes it's quite melancholic and occasionally bizarre. Spa music should be a bit more neutral and soothing! But honestly, that is just nit picking!!!

Rooms were fantastic, loved the interior design of everything. Perfect bathroom and lighting in the room. Great provision for plug sockets.
The signage in the hotel is poor and confusing, every floor says RECEPTION! The passage on the ground floor with ramp is completely inadequate, should have been widened. I was disappointed that my room did not give me access to the Club at Cottonmill. I feel that the booking did not make it clear that you could not access this spa. The photos of this spa was what made me want to book a spa treatment in the first place, and try the hotel.

Rooms were lovely; furnishings very tasteful, fantastic shower. Bed was super comfortable. Spa facilities were excellent; we were lucky with the weather and could even make use of the loungers outside. Lots of lovely areas to lounge in and relax. Buffet breakfast was very good, the staff were knowledgeable about allergies and there was a dedicated 'free from' section.
We had requested adjacent rooms but our rooms were on completely different floors. We had also mentioned it we were celebrating a 40th birthday and no mention of this/gesture was made. No telephone call prior to our stay to check information. No fridge in room, though we did ask and a (tiny) fridge was brought up to our room. As above, the spa was lovely but I would have expected their to have been a member of staff keeping an eye on the facilities, moving on used towels, used glasses, rubbish etc.

Great decor and rooms were extremely comfortable. most of the staff provided excellent service, extremely welcoming
Spa was very busy, appreciate they want everyone to be able to use it but some kind of booking system wouldn’t go amiss to ease congestion. One of the restaurants was closed when we were there so breakfast was served in the conservatory - this was the lowlight. Had to wait 40 minutes for coffees and could see every other table were also having to ask constantly where theirs were. The space was also not appropriate for the number of guests - guests were tripping over one another collecting their breakfast and it was just not a good enough level of service for the price.

Sopwell House Hotel is an exceptional hotel with an even more exceptional personnel who would do anything to make your stay as best as can be. The friendliness but nonetheless professional attitude of each and every associate we came across with, made our stay even nicer. The level of cleanliness, comfort, facilities and food quality was second to none. We hope to be back quite soon.
The only thing that we didn't like was that there was no elevator to our Room 260. However, we did get immediate help with our luggage at arrival and departure

Loved the interiors and vibes of the hotel. Well planned out and grounds looked lovely. Reception staff on arrival very friendly as was the bar staff. Clara who was our main waitress for dinner was exceptional! Really welcoming and helpful. Gym facilities food, small but well organised and equipped. Room very comfortable except the shower over the bath.
The spa was overcrowded and it enough day beds or chairs. Low on staff in the lounge bar in the afternoon, only one waiter working and it was difficult to stay on top of orders, and clearing tables. Also one member of staff on the front of house for the evening reservation in Omboo was very sharp in her service, spilled the wine over my partners hand whilst pouring, very abrupt when taking the food order or trying to engage in conversation. Would be better to install walk in showers rather than over the bath
