Alan is an exceptionally good host, and I am so grateful to him for the extremely gracious way in which he handled my mixing up booking dates. He sprung to the rescue to prepare the room for us at just a few minutes' notice. It was a very kind effort and one which we appreciated hugely with such intense working days lying ahead of us. The breakfast was noteworthy and delicious and we especially enjoyed the little touches of welcoming luxury that made the stay lovely. It was a joy to unwind in the beautiful cottage garden which Alan has cultivated with evidential love and skill.
Nothing - we were so grateful for such a lovely stay in every way.

This is a very quaint little cottage about 1km from the centre of town, beautifully decorated with antiques and a typical English cottage flavour. Alan is a fantastic host who provided a delicious slice of cake and tea on our arrival, his attention to detail was superb - towelling gowns, cotton wool, and lots of comfort. A delicious breakfast the next morning with lots of healthy choices of seeds and granola, fresh fruit and great options for the cooked breakfast. Better than most hotels. We went to the Newt for the day and this was a great place to stay close by.
Arriving in a big car could be tricky as parking is limited but Alan can make a plan.

The building was delightful. Host very nice, helpful and knowledgeable. Bed very comfortable. Room was lovely. Breakfast was very good. A choice of fruits, cereals and yoghurt plus good quality produce for the cooked breakfast.
Came home after a day out at 3pm, mid December, and the heating was not on. The room was very cold. Im assuming heating is on a timer, but mid December I feel maybe it needs to be on a bit earlier. I believe it came on about 4.30pm.In a 4 night stay, room only serviced once. Tea, coffee, sugar and milk not replenished, however I did knock and ask for some milk and sugar, which were supplied to me.

This is one of the best properties we’ve ever stayed in. From the moment we arrived, we were made to feel very welcome by Alan. The room was spacious, clean and equipped with high end bedding and furnishings. Breakfast was extraordinary. As many have said, the poached pears are works of genius. But the rest of the breakfast was made up of high quality ingredients which were also beautifully cooked. Alan has great local knowledge and fantastic suggestions for places to eat and see locally. We can’t recommend Maplestone highly enough.
There was nothing to dislike.

We could not fault this accommodation! Based in the centre of Shepton Mallet & is within easy walking distance of the town centre. We were greeted by a discerning host, Alan & shown to a large & well equipped bedroom, with all expected facilities, a lovely bathroom/shower & toiletries provided. In the mornings we were offered an excellent breakfast of cereals fruit, nuts & berries, a substantial cooked breakfast all beautifully cooked & full of flavour, lovely bread & everything was properly presented. It was clearly evident that Alan knows how to run an excellent b & b, everything was clean , fresh & provided with thought & excellent presentation. We will definitely return if staying in the area again & would have no hesitation in recommending this property. You will NOT be disappointed.
Absolutely nothing!

We were made to feel very welcome here, room was clean and comfortable and Alan was a very good host , both in terms of the information he gave us and with the quality and options he provided for our breakfast each morning - couldn't fault it. We stayed in the Potting Shed - very comfortable bed.
I am somewhat hesitant to comment on this, in that it is peculiar to our personal situation. My wife has some mobility issues which meant accessing the toilet wasn't easy given that it is separate to the bathroom and is quite small, with the door opening inwards. That said , it certainly wouldn't prevent us from revisiting Maplestone again if were are heading to these parts again but thought it worth a mention in case other travellers have similar situations.

Great location close to the centre of town. Off street parking at the front of the property. Host very welcoming and can provide some useful info on the surrounding area. Room was a good size, well heated and very cosy. Bed was supremely comfortable. Very quiet location. Breakfast was outstanding. Some superb choices we've not found anywhere else. Everybody sits at the same table so a good opportunity to chat with other guests.
Parking is a bit of a tight squeeze for 3 cars, especially any SUVs. A floorboard must have run through to the room behind because it squeeked every time somebody stood on it.

We left Maplestone this morning sadly. We have had the best time. Alan ( the host) greeted us on our arrival with coffee and cake in the Garden, which is stunning. Set in a quiet part of the town Maplestone was comfortable and friendly. Alan is very knowledgeable about the area. The breakfasts were phenomenal. Bedroom had all facilities required and was spacious and comfortable. We had over eaten one day and decided to have cheese and biscuits in the garden. Alan ensured we had all the crockery, cutlery and glassware we needed for our impromptu picnic. We will definitely br back and would recommend to anyone

The attention to detail which was demonstrated by many inclusions in the bedroom and en-suite bathroom. The bed linen was really comfortable, light weight and lovely, soft pillows given were a delight. Breakfast was served so nicely and a very excellent selection of fruit available. I could hardly rate this hospitality accommodation sufficiently higher. Our host Alan should be congratulated on such a lovely place. I would recommend it to any friends and would not hesitate to return. Help with our luggage was also greatly appreciated. The little walled garden is delightful and very private.
Nothing which comes to mind.

Alan greeted us when we arrived, kindly took our suitcase up the stairs for us. Then made us tea & cake in garden where we sat & had a nice chat. Beautiful cottage, very cosy & clean.tea & coffee facilities in our room plus a small fridge with milk in. Great location for sightseeing. Alan is an excellent host & very knowledgeable about the area, best directions to take & what’s on in the area. Breakfast is cooked to perfection plus a good selection of cereal & fruits, nuts & yogurt. We had a wonderful stay . Thankyou 😊
