Our second time staying at the Cross Keys and it was an absolute delight. The staff were accommodating, even as late arrivers they made sure we were fed and watered - 30minutes after the kitchen closing with a delicious freshly made pizza each! Set in a beautiful location on a quiet road with quick access onto the motorway - a perfect stop off on our way to Scotland. We've been back twice now, first as a pitstop on our honeymoon and again on our wedding anniversary and we'll definitely be back again. Bed was exceptionally comfortable, bedding clean and soft and the rooms spacious and comfortable. All the rooms have such a rustic charm, fitting of the age of the inn which only makes the stay even more special.

Nothing at all! We'll definitely be back!

This was a stop over on our way back down from Scotland. It was in a great location for us, just popping off the motorway. We were met with a very warm welcome and were able to check in straight away. We had our evening meal at the Chequers, which totally exceeded our expectation. Breakfast was of the same very high standard and cooked to order. Also, very dog-friendly.

Could maybe have done with a little more lighting outside the chalet at night-time, and the bathroom decor was a little tired but this didn't distract from our stay and would definitely stay again if we're in the area.

Room was great for us staying - the main bed was really comfortable - the pull out sofa bed was less comfortable but kind of expected due to it being a pull out bed. We felt very comfortable staying with our dog. It was situated at the back of the pub so we weren't disturbed by noise from the pub. Enclosed area outside the door so felt that it was a safe space for dogs/children not to be straight out into the rear car park area. Food at the pub was delicious. Good variety and very fresh. During our stay we tried pies, fish & chips & fresh pizza and all very tasty. Staff were really helpful and pub seems very popular with locals too.

Plug socket to the right of the main bed seemed faulty (crackling noise when you switched it on/off) so we chose not to use it. Great to have the ensuite but the shower was a bit snug

We had a lovely warm welcome and were shown to our room which was lovely. Had an excellent meal and drinks in the evening and found the pub lovely and quaint. Lovely friendly service. We had a breakfast bap in the morning, which was the best one we have ever eaten, very big and full of bacon and sausage . There was a good choice at breakfast, served by another lovely member of staff. Would definitely recommend and if we travel that way in the future would definitely book as brilliant value and so close to the M6.

Loved it all !

The pub is in a 16th century building and many things (including floor) are not level but all appropriate electrical and plumbing is modernised to current safety standards. We dined in at the pub for dinner as well as the breakfast which was part of our tariff. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay, the atmosphere and both meals. It does not pretend to be 5 star. In a fairly remote village and that suited us as we're touring using a hire car and parking was no issue unlike many city based stays

The perfect stop over for a one night stop over on way back from Scotland. A beautiful old 16th century coaching inn with friendly staff and good food and beer. Just off the M6 by a couple of minutes so not far to travel off route for the night. The breakfast was the best cooked breakfast we'd had for the 10 days touring Scotland. the bed was comfy all be it on a slight slope due to the quirkiness of the old inn and sloping floors.

Nothing to not like.

We only had cereals & toast for breakfast. There were plenty of those provided. The car parking facilities were excellent and the chalet was quiet throughout. Very relaxing environment with more sheep than people in the vicinity. Heating was very effective and easy to control once I'd found the switch hidden behind the wardrobe.

My partner's steak served to her on our first evening in the bar was as tough as owld boots- but that's sirloin for you! The tap in the sink was not secured to its base which meant that turning it off or on was a two handed job-could be a problem for someone genuinely disabled. I wasn't able to point this out to a staff member when I checked out as there was nobody at reception.

The location of the Cross Keys Inn was ideal for us being just a short way off the M6 at the Tebay junction for an overnight break on our journey to Scotland. The pub is delightful with only a few rooms but extremely warm and welcoming, clean and friendly, helpful staff. Good food with great choices for breakfast. Excellent value for money. The area around the Cross Keys is beautiful and well worth exploring being between the Lake District and the Yorkshire Dales.

Nothing - it was a perfect overnight stay.

It was lovely to get out of the snowy conditions outside and be greeted by a blazing log fire in a beautiful old inn. Bar was lovely and cosy and the dinner mouthwateringly good. Nice to see duck legs on the menu. Bedroom was nicely furnished, had a window seat and lovely woollen throws and matching curtains. Breakfast good value too. The bathroom was quite small being built in to the bedroom, but then who had bathrooms 400 years ago?!
