Blond reception lady very helpful & sorted out an iorn for us.... we were attending a funeral & our clothes needed pressing. The shower was powerful & very nice. The room was a Twin - 1 double bed and a single. The beds were comfortable, and the linen was clean and of a high thread count. The room also had lovely fruit teas, which were of good quality - there was also instant coffee & hot chocolate available in the room. The hotel heating was comfortable, and the room temperature was perfect. Overall, I was happy with the room. It was clean & comfortable & room maintenance was carried out very professionally. The sticky toffee pudding was enjoyable & touched the spot that was needed. Bar staff were also friendly & helpful. If I needed accommodation in Newquay in the future, I would absolutely consider this option. Clean & friendly
I thought the late checkout was a bit too steep in price £20. I think £15 would be more reasonable. I did not enjoy the macaroni cheese , it was tasteless & the crumbs on top were rather nasty. I was surprised that some of the staff were gathered at the window in the restaurant, watching a car that had to reverse in a difficult situation. This was amusing for the staff as the person was having to reverse up the hill as there was no room out the back to do a three point turn....the staff said it happens often & they seemed to find it really funny. I think that a bigger sign is needed to prevent this from happening & to possibly prevent an accident.

the location was great being right next to great western beach which you can watch over at breakfast or if in the restaurant. the room size was generous too and had what we needed. breakfast choices were good and restaurant meals. we went and watched some live music on the friday we were staying but there are other things during the week and live sports on.
not having all parking spaces on site and having to pay £10 per day for this can all add up to the holiday cost. i would recommend booking through the hotel though as we parked just up the road in a car park which is just for the great western. the temperature was a bit warm in our room and the bed was quite uncomfortable being a harder mattress.

There were few bits and bats but nothing major. The staff is helpful quickly provided me with additional heater when I requested one. The location is superb, you have 180° view of the ocean from the restaurant where the breakfast is served. You can sit there while having your coffee and watch the ocean and people surfing the waves faraway.
The windows are as it is called single hung windows that are open vertically and lots of heat from the room escapes because of this reason. If property owner could organise an upgrade to a new style controlled-open windows everyone would be a winner here.

Location was the best thing about this property and the staff who were always accommodating and pleasant and helpful. Great location to have drink, chill out literally.Laundry and cleaning system spot on.Reception staff lovely.
Old rugged wood like smell and feel to it. Worn out and molded window corners. The price does not always necessarily reflect the room or sea view. I feel even booking.com as a platform also has to take some part in promising the same room as reflected for the high price point demanded. Small lifts and squeaky floor and no smart tv or even netflix or any app connectivity. Restaurant menu options could be expanded.

Frien̈day staff in every department. Nothing too much trouble for them. Went the extra mile and a feel good factor as we entered hotel reception. Views from room and restaurant amazing. Breakfast was excellent. Allocated parking good with a security bar to monitor entry and exit on main hotel front most welcome for vehicle security a bonus. Short walk into town centre and for visitors without a vehicle this hotel close to station and bus stop. Excellent beaches very close to hotel too.
Everything was to our liking.

The price reflected the room, a budget room with a view of the high street and not the sea. That was ok because we didn’t spend a lot of time in our room except at night, so the view wasn’t important for a one-night stay. The view from the restraunt amply compensated for this. The staff were great, friendly service. We were fortunate to be in the hotel for a Thursday 'Pie and Pint' meal which was excellent. We really enjoyed our stay and will book again as we travel through.
Unless I missed the small print, I didn’t realise that parking was an extra fee. But realised why when we arrived; spaces are indeed limited, so pre- booking IS essential.

We had a very nice room with a view looking out at the beach and the sea. All of the staff were friendly, helpful and kind. The dining room had exceptional views of the sea and was a delightful place to have meals. There were great choices for breakfast from a full English to smoked salmon and scrambled eggs and everything in between.
From a personal point of view, dogs being allowed in the dining areas is not something I like or enjoy. The hotel, and most places we visited in Newquay were "dog friendly" but being constantly surrounded by them nearly everywhere we went somewhat spoiled our holiday and much as I liked the Great Western Hotel, it is for this reason I would not stay there again. I would look for somewhere where I could sit and eat in peace without constantly barking dogs!

The entrance to the hotel doesn't lead you to expect overmuch but you have to remember its a very old building. However, the bedrooms are a different matter altogether. Ours was absolutely lovely. We had paid for a seaview room and it delivered on that count with pretty much floor to ceiling windows. The room was light and bright; the bedding was high quality and the shower had Elemis products which I've never seen before. We had a meal in the restaurant which was fine, the staff were nice and they gave us a table in the window that we'd asked for. We would definitely stay there again if in the area.
Nothing.

Everything: the room was lovely, so big, comfortable, with everything we needed. The restaurant so beautiful, food great, prices great, breakfast so good and real value for the price (continental breakfast on buffet with fresh products and cooked breakfast). Service quick and so friendly! Kids were so happy and everybody made them feel they were welcome and free to move around without any fear.. Even parking easy found and with kindness. The hotel is historic, built in the 19th century, many time renovated and so you feel the history of a long time even though in a modern environement, we loved it. I thought many times during our stay, that I can’t understand bad ratings of this hotel.. Reading them made me doubt about coming. They are so unfair and who reads them should not believe them. I think peolpe just can’t appreciate things whitout complainig or without understanding if something isn’t perfect.. We loved so much this place, a must hotel to stay for me, not just the view (even though a marvellous view!!). Maybe, if you are looking for a bourgeois, quiet, romantic hotel, better go somewhere else, here you will find charme, kindness, informally! A lovely place if you are happy feeling spoiled but at home✨ We also wanted to leave a special thank to Jade at the reception who as been just so kind and professional , we felt so welcome! thank you sweetheart, we will remember you forever💕
We loved everything. Just notice that the playground outside, in case of big rains, may be temporaly closed.. We totally understood, as with the rain everything was inevitably wet and the soil muddy, but we were sad that the kids haven’t had the chance to enjoy this lovely place even though it was sunny when we arrived..

The hotel staff were very friendly and helpful. The room was spacious, and being able to open the windows was all that was needed to keep the room cool. We didn't miss an air-conditioner. Amazing views of the cost, the bar and restraunt as part of the hotel were excellent. Great location (just down the road from train station) and good value for money. Would stay here again.
The hotel room was a little dated, and the floor boards were noisy. You could hear people going up and down the stairs and in the rooms above.
