This is one of the best hotels we have stayed at. We had the Queen's Chamber which was a delight: spacious, open, lovely view, huge bathroom with lots of takeaways including special extras such as shaving kit, shoe shine, toothbrush and toothpaste. Service was exceptional from the initial welcome at reception to the room and restaurant service, everyone was polite, friendly and gave real attention to comfort and detail. Food in restaurant for dinner very high quality and the breakfast excellent, we were also given a lunch pack for our journey the next day.
Nothing: genuinely fantastic stay,

The coffee stations and bar area were well stocked and kept clean. The food was delicious, great breakfast and we ate in the bar in the evenings. Really lovely staff on the bar in particular.
The pool was closed which wasn't communicated when we booked, we only heard of this after booking, also our room in the tower was not really worth the extra cost. The coffee stations and bar in the tower was always closed and we could not use it, we'd hoped to be able to have an evening drink in the nice surroundings in the tower but this was not the case as it was being used for a function. The noise from the evening events/glass bin being emptied did not feel like we were in a better spot than the cheaper rooms in the more modern complex. Also drunk evening guests smoking around the entrance to the tower when we returned late wasn't ideal. We did feel a bit forgotten about over there.

We didn't stay on the old part, but was told by reception staff that we had to ask for a room there prior, and only at certain times. We stayed in the newer annex. Lovely area, lovely grounds. Reception not quite were you expect it to be. Accidentally walked into a wedding reception, wandered around for a few mins before we were rudely and passive aggressively asked to leave by the MC who had been sat on his backside in another room. Pizza from the bar was massively over priced £16 and very poor quality. No where in the room to hang any clothes, hanging towels and clothes on the fire door hinge, not acceptable at any price range.

Clean property
The rooms a little bit far from the main building and restaurant but it also has its advantages being a bit isolated

The staff from arrival to departure were frankly immense, Helyna,(forgive the spelling) and the other lady receptionist could not have been more welcoming, helpful and gracious. Then over to the bar and restaurant staff, Katie and Genevieve were a repeat of the first 2 team members, only more so. My partner and I were stressed as we had quite a traumatic journey. However these particular team members were jovial, patient and forgiving,(I looked like worzel gummidge upon arrival), they did not blink and treated us like Royalty. The same can be said of Brad In the restaurant , also absolutely exceptional in every way, greeting, service and helpfulness par excellence. Selina and Prem also deserve special mention, De Vere are fortunate to have such a fantastic set of employees. Also thanks to the chefs and serving team members as well as the cleaners, all truly great. Thank you all so much.
The only reason I am putting a mention here is that, at times, I felt the menu slightly limited, but the food provided was of an extremely high standard, faultless in fact.

The Tower was a real surprise and fascinating being separate to the main hotel it was a great experience , the history and surroundings and peace made it a very restful place to stay .The breakfast was excellent the evening menu was a bit basic for us .The real strength of our stay was the staff , Brad Evans the duty manager at the tower was outstanding so proud of the site and his company he made us feel so welcome and explained the history of the place which brought the surroundings to life .Toby Stanakozv looked after us so well in the restaurant so friendly professional and helpful . De Vere should be very proud of them both .
The evening menu could be a bit more adventurous .

The rooms were lovely.
We had to move rooms due to flooding in the shower area. Do not use room 209. Had to use all the towels to stop the water from reaching the carpet. Was unaware at breakfast you could ask for like poached eggs. Cooked Food had been out for a long time, the scrambled eggs were cold, they were not under a heat lamp. Made a suggestion to put a sign up for poached and scrambled eggs made to order. The staff looked at me to say I was stupid. They kept on making fried eggs. Felt very disorganised

The room was beautiful and the old part of the hotel was wonderful to stay in. We enjoyed walking around the ground on the next morning. The new part is also lovely and we had a nice evening meal and breakfast there. The restaurant staff in the evening were exceptionally friendly and helpful. I was celebrating my 60th birthday and I was very touched to find a birthday card, chocolate and biscuits in my room. The restaurant staff also gave me a pudding platter, which was amazing. I am so glad I chose Horsley Towers as my birthday treat venue. A final thanks to the female staff member who came over and unlocked the Chapel for us to view. It was really beautiful. Thank you everyone!

My room had a nice view over green fields of horses, trees etc. The breakfast is extensive, with good fresh fruit and vegetarian options, also gluten free etc for those who need that. At night it was wonderfully quiet as the road is far away. The grounds are lovely to wander in and it is not far to walk to lovely woods. The pool is a good size unlike many hotel pools.
It is disappointing that hotels still persist in supplying low quality sliced packaged bread instead of wholemeal, sourdough loaves that you slice. Healthier bread would have enabled me to give a higher score. The coffee machines supply a rather insipid coffee, I would prefer individual coffee pots or cafetieres. The price of drinks in the bar was outrageous! Over £8 for one glass of wine, when a whole bottle is only £9 in the supermarket, It would be nice to have individual fridges in the rooms with fresh milk for tea and coffee.

Friendly, helpful staff. Excellently appointed rooms, albeit a little smaller than expected. Everything provided, lovely toiletries. Didn't quite understand the need for the fake telephone, it just took up room on the bedside table. Excellent breakfast, full english or continental and dinner from lounge bar menu. Lovely pool, changing rooms a bit tired but showers worked. Free parking.
Ongoing refurbishments - Horsley Place main reception closed. Had workmen drilling at 8am on bank holiday Monday. Lounge bar closed off on Monday too. Maze of well sign posted alternative routes to and from temporary reception. Guests with mobility issues may find it a bit of a walk with stairs/steps to negotiate. You have to sign in at the temp reception before using pool/gym and to pick up complimentary towels too. I'm sure once the works are completed, it will be easier to get around.
