The Horse and Groom is a boutique experience for the would-be country gentry. Accommodation is set back from a run-through road across a walled courtyard a and at its nearest, behind a shared corridor, so you never feel disturbed by the passing traffic. Private ensuite had own-branded toiletries, shelf space and mirrors aplenty. There was also lots of storage in the room (although no wardrobe which wasn't a problem for me). The addition of a Nespresso machine certainly made me feel indulged as it's quite the pick-up. WiFi connected and operated speedily and easily. As with many picturesque settings, network coverage here is patchy, so check with your provider if that's an issue. Menu set out for a range of tastes; the dishes I had were exquisitely cooked. Confit Pork belly crunch top, tender meat in a porcine jus. Like starter similarly luxurious which made an able lunch, Pork cheek with butternut squash puree, taste is full yet unlike most establishments, also filling. However. Before booking, I phoned to verify and was assured the Horse and Groom catered for a wide range of dietary requirements and any dish could be adapted accordingly. This proved not to be the case however, as having issues with both gluten and dairy, only one main would suit me as is. For example, I asked about the fishcake and was told it was pre-mixed (with diary cheese) and could not be adapted. When I protested, 'that's not what I was told,' my server assured me that indeed was the case. Fortunately for me, I hadn't pre-paid for dinners when booking, so encountering some very nearby places who comfortably accommodated my needs, for evening meals I ate there instead. Caveat emptor I would advise anyone booking; but for this annoyance, I would have given the Horse and Groom 10/10. If you have no or limited dietary issues, the Horse and Groom is the place for you. Overall this was a pleasant and satisfying stay.

Exceptional pub, restaurant and hotel. Very welcoming staff, beautiful surroundings and comfortable hotel facilities. Spotless clean and very welcoming. Free parking on site. Powerful shower and modern clean showroom with toilet. Luxurious towels, shower gel and shampoo. Large comfortable bed and excellent pillows. Exceptional breakfast, cooked to order and exceptional dinner cooked for a party of 13, including a young child with allergies. All staff exceptional and very attentive. Nice garden area to sit in as well. Safe and enclosed for children.
There wasn’t a fridge in the room but staff compensated by giving us milking in a thermos container to keep it clean.

Lovely ambiance and friendly, helpful staff. Very dog friendly and welcoming. Great location for both the coast and Chichester. Very nicely decorated and presented, albeit not the largest rooms. We ate in the restaurant both nights and the food was really very good. Short but interesting menu. My highlights were the beautifully seasoned delicious crayfish and avocado starter on the first night, sadly let down by the venison tagliatelle that followed as the venison was incredibly tough to the point that I couldn't eat it, and a delicious onion tarte tatin on the second night. Breakfast was very good, nice range of hot and cold options and very nicely presented. Decent coffee in the rooms and they give you a little flask of fresh milk, topped up on request. The food was reasonably pricey, however the rooms including breakfast were great value. It was perfect for a couple of days get away and we would definitely stay here again.
Our room was perfectly adequate in size but not a lot of room for navigating past our rather large dog. The shower had a screen that didn't seal properly so on the first morning we flooded the floor as didn't realise that you needed the shower curtain inside the shower screen. That meant there was very limited room in the shower without sticking to the curtain. On the plus side it had a fabulous rainforest shower with plentiful hot water.

When we decided to visit the Repair Shop at the Weald and Downland living museum, we initially searched for a local hotel. Generally, parking was an issue with Chichester locations, so we eventually found the Horse and Groom, which had good reviews and looked great, and was located close to the museum and also provided parking. On arrival, we were so excited with the location and the accommodation, and this excellent Inn kept giving with a wonderful menu and superb service . This made our trip even more special. We will definitely return.

An absolute gem of a find. We booked onto a Gin School event at Ashling Park and wanted to stay within walking distance from here. What a treat to find The Horse and Groom! It’s perfect location (also a very short drive from Goodwood where we regularly go), beautiful rooms and comfy bed, stunning food for dinner and breakfast in the restaurant and even little extras like a coffee machine in the room, fresh milk from the bar and bottled water next to the beds made our first trip away as a married couple absolutely perfect. The staff were also amazing from check in through to check out. We truly couldn’t have asked for more. Thank you!
Everything was perfect!

We had an excellent stay. We were a large group and all the staff members we met made us feel welcome. The accommodation really suited our needs and was beautifully styled. The location is also ideal, a few minutes drive from Ashling Park Vineyard and around 15 minutes into the centre of Chichester. There was a great range of breakfast items and everyone enjoyed what they choose. The team made our stay really smooth and enjoyable, we would happily visit again.
One small improvement would be to add more lighting by the mirror in the bedroom.

We had the most lovely time. The pub is beautiful, with lovely art works tastefully arrange. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, which is enhanced by the lovely staff, who are so friendly, nothing is too much trouble. The food was incredible, from the presentation to the taste. It was all exceptional with an eye for detail, which just made everything special. What was a lovely treat to ourselves was taken to a whole new level, from the incredible pie for supper to the amazing breakfast selection in the morning. I was so pleased to be staying for two nights so we could do the menu justice. The room was lovely, with the little homemade treats on the tea tray a lovely surprise as well as the flask of fresh milk. The bed was large and comfortable. The shower amazing. I could go on and on...... Can not recommend highly enough, will definitely be booking another visit. Thank you to everyone for a lovely weekend.

Very characterful property outside, in the public areas, and in the room itself. Very clean, comfortable, & finished to a high standard. Comfy bed, high spec bathroom, thick curtains, and the coffee machine/fresh milk was a nice touch. Delicious breakfast & friendly staff on both check-in and out. Very convenient for a walk up Kingley Vale nearby with my dog and a fast enough taxi from Chichester centre/station.
The pub closes early on Sundays (no evening meal; bar early closing) but this is clearly advertised so one just needs to ensure alternative arrangements are needed.

Ground-level room that was high with exposed beams - very pretty. Window was to a little courtyard with people coming and going, so blind was down most of the time, sadly. The room was not hugely spacious, but adequate with enough space to put clothes and pegs for hanging them up. Bed was fine, very Goldilocks. Bathroom was also small, but the shower was absolutely amazing, once I'd figuerd out how the taps work. Choice of soaker from above or hand-held and both had great pressure. The shower area was walled off with glass, so you could really go for it. Lovely! Breakfast was fine, though the options could have been more varied or interesting. But all fine. Some great information in the room about walks in the area and things to do.
There seemed to be someone else on duty every time we came out of the room - we had dealings with three different managers in as many days, meaning you don't really build a rapport. As mentioned, breakfast could have had more exciting choices and the coffee could have been stronger, but minor issues of a very enjoyable (if somewhat expensive) stay.

Every member of staff was professional, efficient and friendly, and a credit to the Horse & Groom. Excellent restaurant, using fresh ingredients, prepared with care by the busy kitchen team. Great choice on regular menu and daily specials very good. Breakfast was also very good with several options available. Room well decorated and spotlessly clean. The large bed was very comfortable with nice bed linen. Soft, fluffy bath towels.
Bathroom was adequate but small and cramped in our room (Singleton). The tiny hand basin made it difficult to avoid spilling water on the floor and a hand towel ring/hook near the basin would have helped. The small space for personal toiletries was a narrow shelf above the toilet which was awkward to reach. However, there was a useful shelf in the shower cubicle.
