I highly recommend staying here. The staff were lovely, the room was spacious yet cosy and luxuriously decorated, and the breakfast was the best of the 7 hotels we stayed at on our 2 week road trip (my boyfriend is still talking about how good the bacon was!). Theyâve really thought of everything. Thereâs even a mini fridge in the hallway with fresh milk for tea and coffee - a really nice touch. I felt that it was definitely worth the cost.
My only small gripe was that the bed was 2 singles pushed together and it was too uncomfortable to lie in the middle. This seems to be really common now, Iâm not sure why. Perhaps a mattress topper would make the divide between the 2 beds more comfortable? Not sure if they have actual king size beds here but itâs potentially worth requesting it when booking, if thatâs your preference.

The room was excellent:- a good size, well designed and equipped, warm comfortable and very clean. It was in an adjacent building to the main pub. The pub is a very traditional old English pub with various different rooms and nice log fires burning. There is an excellent and interesting selection of wines by the glass. The staff were very friendly and the food and service top notch. Breakfast too was excellent.
The terms were stated that no prepayment would be taken and I would pay at the property but it was charged to my card the day before without me knowing. Not a big deal but I wanted to pay a different way

Quality rooms, lovely decor, great food and fine service
Having to listen to the general manager undertake an interview with a prospective staff member over Zoom whilst eating breakfast. Her experience of cruise ships sounded relevant, and I hope she got the job. But there were sooo many other places he could have set himself up, and couldnât he - at least - buy headphones?

Very clean and light room with nice view over surrounding countryside with small, shared sitting out area. Spacious bathroom, good shower. The pub had a pleasant beer garden and lovely interior divided into smaller cosy spaces. Food was excellent, everything we ate was cooked perfectly and very tasty both at dinner and breakfast. The staff were friendly and courteous.
It would have been nice to have fresh fruit at breakfast. Drinks were a little expensive compared to other places. Both minor observations which did not retract from a great stay.

The pub is perhaps more a restaurant but nevertheless excellent. Facilities are superb. Our rooms were fabulous with superb views and everything in the room was of the highest quality. Food was delicious, staff great. The surrounding countryside is beautiful. Everything you need for a quiet break with lovely food.
There was nothing I didnât like and difficult to suggest any improvements other than perhaps it would be good to have a little more âpubâ room.

Very comfortable and nicely decorated room in an adjacent building with nice views of the surrounding countryside. This was in a new block a few yards from the main building and restaurant, with umbrellas provided in case of rain. Fresh milk is provided. The restaurant is divided into a number of small rooms. The decoration is interesting and thoughtfully done. The food is excellent and the emphasis is on quality rather than quantity. We had the muscles and venison - which was very nicely cooked. I had the cooked breakfast in the morning - again excellent quality and well prepared. We enjoyed staying here and would certainly stay again.
Nothing springs to mind

We loved this place. The rooms are very modern, but very comfortable and I believe all have views over gorgeous countryside which was not spoilt by the persistent rain. Aside from the gorgeous rooms, I need to single out the staff as a major selling point. We were there on a Friday and Saturday nights, so they were very busy indeed. Yet, always cheerful, helpful and efficient. To complete the set, the food was excellent. Quality produce, imaginative dishes and beautifully prepared. This is a very well run operation and we look forward to visiting again.
Nothing.

Iâd read a review last year, Tom Parker Bowles said âthis is the local you wished you hadâ. I cannot agree more, wish this place was just down the road. Lovely cosy pub, delicious food, very comfortable rooms in a lovely location, we live in Scotland and this place is in Staffordshiređ¤will aim to return as soon as we canđ¤
Nothing, it lived up to the review, didnât like the fact it is so far from where we live.

Very comfortable room on ground floor with gorgeous patio leading out onto fields with beautiful views. Super dog friendly with blankets, towels, bowls and dog biscuits provided. Tasty creative food in the restaurant and a great wine list. All the staff were delightful. Well located for all walking, but not actually in Ashbourne. Car charger was much appreciated too.
