The hotel location was just lovely - on the beach front overlooking the Solway Firth. The views from the hotel lounge and restaurant were directly on to the beach. The standard room we booked was excellent with a sea view and overlooking the golf course - we loved it. The room was roomy and spotless and, as the temperature had dropped, really well heated too. The food in the restaurant in the evening was so good and really great value. Every member of staff we met was really friendly and helpful - we couldn't have asked for more. We only stayed one night but we will definitely return and plan to stay longer next time.
Nothing - we really couldn't fault anything

Everything was great. We had a wonderful time. The staff was wonderful, very friendly, with nothing being too much trouble for them. We also enjoyed breakfast very much
My only complaint is the positioning of items in the room. We are in our 80s so we like to be busy in the daytime, but rest and watch t.v in the evenings. I specifically booked a room with a sofa, as I hate having to watch t.v from my bed. However, it turned out that the very heavy comfortable sofa was on the same wall as the tv, which was placed opposite the bed. Maybe an idea to have a slightly bigger tv for that size room, plus put it on a pivital stand in order for it to face various angles. Sadly, I had to end up going to bed at 6pm in order to spend the evening watching tv.

We stayed here for one night. Then we moved to Loch Lomond and a different hotel. The comparison was stark. The Powfoot Hotel was so clean, inviting, beautiful and just delightful. The view across the Solway Firth is stunning and it is literally a walk out of the door, across a tiny, quiet road and you're on the beautiful beach. The staff were genuine, friendly, professional and added to our stay. I'm fussy when it comes to beds. If it's not clean I can't sleep and I need a good mattress for my back. I slept comfortably here. After a long journey this is important. There is a beautiful lounge upstairs, next to our room. Its has floor to ceiling windows and a balcony. A really delightful extra space that the hotel welcomes the use of. They even supply binoculars! We ate at the hotel and it was delicious. The restaurant has exceptional views to look out across the bay. We will definitely be returning. Thanks for a lovely stay. And for bird watcher or ornithologists, it must be an absolute dream!
Nothing, it is wonderful! I suppose if it was a little cheaper we would have stayed two nights. But to be fair, we did stay in the best room. But it was worth it so I'd say that's just me wanting longer!

The staff could not have been more helpful and pleasant. Our room was fabulous with a lovely Seaview and a lovely suite area to sit by the window or to watch TV. Bathroom was gorgeous! The restaurant was very good and very reasonably priced for such a high standard of food. The Solway Lounge and balcony was lovely and very quiet.
I didn't realise we would not be able to go onto the beach as it was not suitable for walking. One of the things I was looking forward to was an evening stroll on the sand and a paddle, I didn't realise it was so far up the estuary.

The staff were very attentive. They communicated before and during our journey. We were held up and arrived for dinner late. They called and accomadted our delay. The accomadation was clean and well serviced. The location was in a very idiliac location.
I was told an EV charging point was available. It was not functional on our arrival. It would help on the hotel info sheet if they were to identify the EV charging location in Annan. Beside the swimming pool/school. This is excellent charging location in a large car park very close to the town centre.

The staff were very friendly and went out of their way to see we had everything we required, especially Nicole and her tall blonde colleague( apologies for not remembering her name}. The hotel and room were exceptionally clean and tidy. The room was more like a suite with an exceptional view of the Solway Firth. The food was delicious and well presented with plenty choice for meat & fish eaters.
The bed mattress sagged on one side as a result I didn’t sleep very well. The hot water for the shower took ages to circulate through the pipes. I was disappointed that there was limited choice on the dinner menu for a vegetarian. Had we been staying a few nights I would have struggled to find different meals to choose.

This is the second time we have stayed and it was just as lovely as the first time. The staff are all so friendly and welcoming, the bar area is warm and cosy. The bedroom is big and airy and the bathroom has a really powerful shower. Lovely that the bedroom radiator can be turned right down and great that the window can be opened. The food at dinner and breakfast is simply delicious and for a little treat, indulge in some of their custard creams, just divine.
The coffee maker in the bedroom is fiddly when you just want hot water for tea. Could do with some spare pillows and an extra blanket for the bed.

This hotel provides a very homely atmosphere although it is very well appointed. It is in a very good location with great views over the Solway Firth. This is the third time we have visited. The previous time we stayed in a deluxe room with views over the Solway. This time we stayed in a mountain view standard room. We enjoyed it too as it was a very good size with a great view of the golf course. The food for breakfast and dinner was excellent. The hotel seems to be the centre of the local community and has a lovely cosy feel. It is easy to access from the motorway.
There wasn't anything we didn't like.

Lovely location and view across the golf course to the mountain beyond. Massive bed, complementary toiletries in the bathroom and a couple of bottles of mineral water. Teas, coffee, biscui etc replenished daily. Great choices for breakfast. Fantastic staff who really made us feel welcome and were always on hand to answer questions about local attractions etc.
Dinner menu in the restaurant was very meat and fish orientated. Only two vegetarian mains - potato gnocchi or a beetroot and feta burger - although, when I mentioned it was a bit limited the manager said the kitchen could do a potato curry or something if I wanted, so very accomodating. It'd be nice to be able to choose off the regular menu like everyone else rather though rather than have to make a special request for a meat free alternative.

This hotel is of a very high standard. Room was beautifully decorated and we had a separate seating area with beautiful views overlooking the beach. Powfoot has an exceptionally long sandy beach. If you are a golfer the hotel is next to the golf course. The village is pretty with a small stream running through it. Very quiet area but also very handy for the motorway - just about 20 minutes away. Breakfast was really great - no buffet - so everything freshly made. Dinner at night was very good - some of the best desserts I have ever had! Scenery in the surrounding area is lovely.
We had problems with the shower i.e. getting hot water - I have mentioned this in a separate review to the hotel - but we would definitely stay again. I would not recommend Dumfries city centre as so many shops were boarded up but we did enjoy the Gracefield Arts Centre in Dumfries which had an excellent display of local artists but also a display of artists who have two cultures which was extremely interesting.
