We really liked the location as it was only 5 minutes walk from the Shrine of Walsingham and even less to some shops. We loved the food...Great portions and a varied menu for food and drink. Our beds were comfortable and our room big for a twin..we had a good view being at the front of the hotel too. The staff were very friendly and helpful.
The plumbing was pretty noisy but that's to be expected in an old building! Flushing the toilet and running the shower produced quite a noise. There were no grab rails n the shower for my elderly Mum who wasn't too steady on her feet.

Great location in a beautiful quintessential English village. Staff friendly and attentive. Food and room adequate. However, be aware it was noisy! My room was above the bar, so I heard the murmur of conversation until 10:30/11pm, which i could cope with. The fact that I could hear every word of the couple next door (beginning at 6am!) I couldn't cope with! And then I worried that my snoring may have woken them up, which worried me too as I could hear them snoring at times also! Walls must be paper thin!! I would stay again. If I could have a quieter room.

The Black Lion was in a superb location for us, as we was going to the Thursford Christmas Spectacular and this pub was 7 mins away. Also the pub was nestled in a lovely little village, which was wonderful to wander round. The staff were so helpful, and lunch and breakfast was superb. Although our room was very clean, bed linen gorgeous and bed very comfy, the bathroom was extremely small. My Sister and I aren't very big people so it wasn't to much of an issue, but if you were bigger, you would struggle with the size of the room and shower.
As previously mentioned, just the size of the ensuite, which was very small.

staff were brilliant and helpful. young girls always with smiles on their faces. nothing was too much trouble for them. breakfast excellent and plentiful. quiz night was fun in the evening which we didn't do but enjoyed the atmosphere. meals were good. bed was comfortable. location in a quiet village was nice too. shower brilliantly hot and powerful.
not exactly something we didn't like but an observation. the bathroom was very small but everything worked as it should. no room to dry yourself without having door open. some people would not like that but it didn't bother me. there were more expensive rooms available apparently. my wife thought the shower cubicle was a little scruffy but ok. tall people please note. being hundreds of years old the door to our room was tiny as was the hallway ceiling in one section. I'm 5 ft 9 and hit my head going in. don't know what other rooms were like though. this is expected in an old building and it wasn't a problem.

The staff were a highlight of our trip, all very friendly and helpful. The hotel has a really nice atmosphere and was a lovely place to sit and enjoy the rare nice weather with a few drinks. The food was all very good (the scotch egg and fishcakes especially) and the room was clean and pleasant. Very pretty village. Overall we had a relaxing and very enjoyable trip.
The bed was a little uncomfy and the shower a bit small. The hotel has no designated parking so there's a chance you have to pay and display.

Excellent location for sightseeing in Walsingham, quiet, cosy pub. The breakfasts and dinners were first class, the homemade raspberry compote and granola with Greek yoghurt at breakfast were delicious. The staff were friendly and efficient, our room was made up daily with fresh towels, water , drinks and biscuits.
Towel rails in the bathroom and an additional bedspread or blanket would be helpful.

The breakfast choice was good and plentiful. My room was very charming and comfortable. The staff were very approachable and I was always greeted with a cheerful smile.. I had two evening meals and they were both very well presented and tasty. As I have a mobility issue I asked for my case to be carried up & down the stairs on both occasions this was done with a smile and taken up /brought down the stairs and taken out to my car as well
The uncertainty of being able to park near the venue - however Walsingham being as it is there is not anything that can be done about that. I was there 'out of season' and I was fortunate that when I moved my car I was able to return and park on the Friday Market Place - however at the major Christian Festivals I imagine it would not be so easy.

Old and quaint. Lovely location and friendly staff. Comfy bed and quiet at night.
Understanderbly as property was old felt bathroom was a bit lacking… shower was a little difficult to control temperature, could do with better lighting especially over sink and a few extra bathroom toiletries. Coffee/tea selection could be improved. But these are really minor as room was lovely.

The best thing about this hotel is the food. Excellent quality and cooking.
My room was a bit cold and I used the duvet from the other bed for my second night. My room was also above the pub so not very quiet. Plenty of tea and coffee provided but only one biscuit and 4 little milks for 2 nights but in the grand scheme of things I really liked everything else

The breakfast was freshly cooked and delicious. We had cooked meals in the evening time which were fantastic. The staff were friendly. The rooms were clean. Great location and lots of little walks around the pretty village. It wasn't far from Wells, just a short drive away. This hotel exceeded our expectations. A great find and would recommend and would certainly go back.
Nothing, just perfect for a great weekend away.
