Amazing Stay at Howzit Hostel! Had the best time staying at Howzit Hostel! Everything was absolutely great from start to finish. The vibe is super chill, the place is clean and comfy, and the staff really made the experience unforgettable. Luke ran some awesome tours—he’s super knowledgeable and made exploring the island fun and easy. Kanzo was always around with good energy and helpful tips. Bri took us out for a relaxing beach day that was just what we needed, and Kara shared her favorite spots in Ê»ÄȘao Valley State Park, which made the visit even more special. Can’t recommend this place enough—can’t wait to come back!

The Van we did our tour in didn't have any AC and the door randomly opened twice while driving.

This was my first time staying in a hostel in the US and it was such an amazing experience. The rooms were clean and the staff did a wonderful job of keeping it tidy. The hostel has a group chat on WhatsApp that’s incredibly useful for communicating with other guests/ staff and coordinating daily activities. I loved that the staff made chocolate chip pancakes and coffee for the guests every morning. It was a culmination of all these little things that has made me recommend this place to all friends and future travelers of Maui.

The house rules weren’t explained on check in, such as cleaning dishes or storing food. I don’t even think I got a tour of the place, but it was a relatively small space and the other guests were very helpful.

Big shoutout to Ela at the front desk for being such a kind and fun human being to be around with. The lobby had tons of space to hangout and lounge in. There are free and some paid activities and tours organized by the hostel every single day. The hostel is pretty central to most of the attractions and other cities you will visit and has ample free street parking nearby. The demographic of the backpackers range from early 20s to mid 30s; so there’s a friend for everyone. They provide free pancakes in the morning and that is a great time to meet people and make new friends. I will definitely come back and stay here again.

Non of the rooms have luggage lockers!!! According to one of the employees, they are in the process of ordering and replacing all the current beds with bunk beds with bottom slide out lockers. The washrooms and showers are all separate from the dorm rooms, I don’t think they have ensuites; and the shower stalls were a bit tight
Finally, the kitchen is a bit lackluster, missing quite a bit of kitchen utensils. The fridges are residential fridges and not the commercial double French door fridges so space is limited
I think all in all these shouldn’t be major deal breakers, all the pros certainly outweighs the cons. These are merely criticisms that can be improved upon, but won’t greatly affect your overall stay at Howitz.

My daughter Sara had such a lovely full week at this hostel and would recommend 100% to any female solo traveller. There was a good vibe thanks to the young staff, everyone was so nice and helpful. It looks a big family with many cool people volunteering and helping around with everything including housekeeping. The hostel was clean at all time and I found absolutely amazing the fact that every day the hostel offers free tours. Kara was the best tour guide ever!!! Best pancakes maker was Kendrick and Izzy too!! Absolutely obsessed with the code key system and the app too. Good filtered water in the fridge :)

Wifi was very bad unfortunately. Not a great choice of hot tea for breakfast. A suggestion I would say is that at check in if people arrive earlier than 2 pm, you may try to accomodate earlier and not wait for the guest to sollecitate at 14:00 to have access to the room, from a booking and airbnb host experience :)

Place is very clean and well maintained, especially the kitchen. The fridges and cabinets are large enough for all the guests. There are entire sections of both fridges and cabinets with free food available to all guests. The common areas are spacious and lively but not chaotic. Large tables are great for eating and gathering with other guests. All the bedrooms are upstairs, keeping it quiet for those who need to rest. Bathrooms are generally clean and again there is a basket with free stuff for guests (insect repellent, sun lotion, whatever previous guests leave). There is a full array of excursions offered. Free chocolate chips pancakes and free coffee for breakfast.

The beds are a little unstable and make noise every time someone moves. The rooms are very small and quite hot since they face the neighboring building. The ceiling fan and air conditioning are quite old and loud. There is not much available in the area as far as grocery stores or food choices. Just remember to buy stuff before you come back to the hostel.

IT IS AMAZING JUST GO ! I cant wait to be back, the staff was amazing, super patient, you were given everything shower towels, beach towels, you had mostly free stuff, breakfast, activities etc, but you have to tip, because they are amazing (and it's always nice to be tipped) the female dorm was great, maybe lacked a big mirror in the room,

maybe have lockers in the rooms (they told me they were working on it, but at the time where I was there was none) but the girls I shared the room with were amazing, and all my stuff was safe in the room.

The staff- mostly volunteers. Had tons of energy & enthusiasm for sharing the vibe of Maui. In particular Bri, Kara & the cool Aussie Georgie shared local tips & assisted with all sorts of queries- always in a friendly way with a smile. They are to be commended. The bed was comfortable, our room quite soundproof. Well stocked kitchen & bathrooms were plenty. Also the excursion we went on to Iao valley was great.

Overall quite clean apart from some guests leaving their rubbish lying around in the common area, including full toe nail clippings left on a stool!!These were there for over 24 hours- I know I took a photo. Also a greedy person took some of our (labelled) food from kitchen. Perhaps hanging a nicely worded flyer about the kitchen/clean up fairy not residing at Howzit

This hostel is probably the best in Maui, even though I haven’t been to the others. It’s always clean and organized. The kitchen is big and has all the equipment you might need. The pancakes at breakfast are delicious! The staff is super careful and polite. Can’t recommend it enough!

The only thing that could be better is having a grocery store a bit closer. There’s just a gas station one block away and a few restaurants around. The closest grocery store is about a 25-minute walk. But honestly, Howzit is still super convenient overall.

A great great hostel!! Amazing, super helpful and fun staff, that also executed free trips around Maui. The hostel was really spaceous and clean, the kitchen and the showers (with provided shampoo and soap) all look quite new, there is also a laundry room inside. We had a great free pancake breakfast in the morning by the staff and the hostel also offers some snorkeling gear, organizes a karaoke night and a bbq night with a cheaper meal and drinks. Overall such a good feeling, also due to fellow travelers, who are in majority in their early 20s. There is also free parking available on the street from the hours of 6pm-10am, which is enough, because you usually are gone during the day if you are there by car. Location is great to go anywhere in the island quickly, but otherwise it is not a really preety neighbourhood, you cannot really go for a walk around it, there is not much to see and you would also need to drive or uber to a beach. But there are many ppl who would share that uber or you would catch a bus. A really great value for the money and such a fun stay!!

There were not enough spoons in the kitchen! :D

Hands down the BEST hostel! Such an amazing experience and community, I made so many friends, everyone is friendly and I love that they have the van and fun excursions! Thanks Kara for the amazing lao valley trip and that you Bruno for taking us to the best spot for snorkelling ! đŸ«¶đŸŒ Tips:1) sit in the common area and you are destined to make friends ! 2)If the van is full ask on the Whatsapp group, someone will have a car and a spot for you 3)Book your stay HERE !!

I loved everything, the only thing that made me sad was that I had to leave! Tip: If you want to go on a excursion with the Howzit van you may have to get up a little early to put your name on the list but don’t worry if you can’t the amazing people you share a stay with will probably have a car that you can hitch a ride with 🚐
