Breakfast was "Full English" with cereals-multi choice to begin. Toast/coissants and jam/marmalade/honey. the coffe could have been a little hotter....my only minus!! The room, although classed as a small single was more than adequate.Very well appointed with a luxury style tiled bathroom The large car park was very secure for motorcycles, something all motorcyclists look for as a 'must have'
The coffee was warm...I like it very hot,so that was disappointing. The hallway carpets looked rather drab and needed replacing. The hallways and stairs could have benefitted from an update.

Old property with character and quirky rooms. Central to the town. Good quality food though choice was limited. Friendly and helpful staff. Near to Powis castle and light railway.
No lift. We were in our late 70’s so no lift is a risk with an old property. No mention in booking notes to customers. Room over the road was a bit noisy due to evening people and daytime traffic. Warn customers to book a less noisy room. Restaurant manager forget to chill wine and water on two nights so this meant order had to be modified. Finding the rear hotel car park was a nightmare due to lack of signage and no drop off point. Latter would have meant we could have spoken to hotel staff before the parking search.

Staff were all extremely friendly and helpful. We had booked a table for dinner and the food and service were wonderful. The breakfast was absolutely fantastic. The rooms were extremely comfortable and had lots of little lovely touches, such as the lamps and radio turned on when we arrived made it really cosy, and there was a little welcome note from housekeeping wishing us a pleasant stay. The toiletries in the bathroom were nice and the bathroom was lovely and spacious. I really appreciated having a bath and not just a shower. We really liked that there was a little collection of books in each room.
We liked everything, and will definitely be returning again! The layout of the rooms was a little confusing, but that’s just part of the charm of an old building.

The hotel was centrally located in the town with secure private parking and its own restaurant and bar on the premises. It is a historical building and keeps many features. The Staff were welcoming friendly and professional. The room was large, airy and spacious with its own good sized bathroom. The beds were very comfortable. The room was well cleaned. Breakfast was exceptional with a good choice of hot food (nicely cooked with top quality ingredients) and there was a bar for cereals/ breads & pastries/ Juices. The breakfast staff were very professional, attentive and friendly. A thoroughly enjoyable stay. Recommended.

Every meal was fantastic and the real ales were great. The staff were amazing, so friendly and smiley (all are worthy of mention but we only caught the names of Charlotte, Efe and Emily). We liked the welcome note from the housekeeping team! The room was a great size, as was the bathroom.
The room was very hot on arrival. Leaving the windows open the whole time helped. The heat was coming from the pipe under the radiator; would it be possible to insulate it to prevent the heat from escaping? We heard another guest complain about the heat in their room too. Having a room giving onto the street, having the windows open meant we could heat the traffic noise. The beds did not offer the support we needed for our backs, so getting comfortable was very difficult due to back discomfort / pain.

The hotel is slap bang in the middle of Welshpool and very easy to find from the Offas Dyke path. The bar was a very welcome sight on our arrival after a days walking in 27oC. Our room was freshly decorated and very clean. The bed was huge and super comfy so we had a good night's sleep despite the heat (the room fan was very welcome). Dinner in the restaurant was excellent and all waiting staff were lovely. Our friend who is a very light sleeper was quickly re-located to a new room when he expressed his unhappiness at the extractor fan outside his bedroom. We are less sensitive to noise and slept through with the window open and said fan directly outside.
The room was a little small for the size of the bed, meaning there wasn't much space around the end of it. Having to carry our large bag up two floors due to the lack of a lift was, well, unwelcome but we managed. This might have been more of a problem for others. So many emails!! Asking us to check in and to book in the restaurant. Are these really necessary?

We enjoyed the gluten free meals on offer and the staff's knowledge of this was great. The staff were so very helpful and pleasant and we had a lovely housekeeping lady who was extremely nice and helpful. The hotel is centrally located in Welshpool and is within walking distance of local amenities and the beautiful Powys castle which is a must for all if you choose to visit here. A car is necessary for travel to the beautiful hamlets and villages outside of town or to visit the picturesque town of Shrewsbury which is approximately 20 miles away from Welshpool but certainly worth a visit. There is a rail service to this but due to maintenance issues this was not running during our visit but a bus service was in place.
The hotel as it is a listed/historical building does not have a lift and the stairs are steep which may cause issues for travellers with mobility problems. It is a dog friendly hotel, so if you're allergic to dogs this may be an issue, however the hotel provided separate dining areas for guests with pets and for those without.

I had a wonderful stay at this hotel! The service was exceptional—every member of the staff was incredibly friendly and welcoming, making us feel right at home from the moment we arrived. The hotel beautifully preserves its old-time charm, yet everything is very well maintained and spotless throughout. Our room was cozy, comfortable, and full of character. It had everything we needed for a relaxing stay. You can really tell that a lot of care goes into both the upkeep of the building and the guest experience. Overall, everything was just perfect. We all felt so good staying here and would definitely come back. Highly recommended!

Room was spacious and the bed was super comfortable. Very pleased with the bathroom and the great amenities (shower gel, hot cocoa!) and it shows that they put effort in making your stay perfect. Location wise, it is very close to the train station, as well as the town centre.
Because the building is old, you can hear everything through the walls. I'm a heavy sleeper but I was woken up a couple of times during the night and early morning as I could hear someone run up and down the stairs, as well as other people watching TV. I assume the noise is not as bad if you stay on the upper floors, but I would find this tiring if I had to stay more than one night.

Convenient location with onsite free car parking for guests, good accommodation, great home cooked food and excellent service throughout by reception and service team - light years ahead of the accommodation and service to which we moved on in Tremadog (North of Porthmadog) - wish we had stayed on at the Royal Oak Hotel, but we had bookings on the Ffestiniog and Welsh Highland railways.
We like traditional, sometimes quirky accommodation, but despite being a "superior Twin Room", found it smaller than we had otherwise reasonably expected.
