Gerry and his wife were outstanding hosts and made me feel home since we changed messages regarding my booking with such short notice. He helped me a lot on my travel plans with good advice and tips. Last but not least, I certify his rooms is excellent and one of the best ones I ever had the pleasure to book for my lifetime. I loved the facilities, everything and the location is feasible for the ones like me who come with the bus to Oudstshoorn, as it is located within walking distance from bus stop.

The property is run by Gerry and Alta who both ensured we were well looked after. We had been given a superior room which accommodated all of our needs, which also looked over the beautiful pool area and a suspension bridge. Despite the pool being slightly cold which we were warned about we made the most of being able to relax, swim and brai in between the times we had things to do. If you are planning on doing some excursions nearby, Gerry is very knowledgeable about where to go, places to eat and how to get there. He was also nice enough to allow us to check out very early in the morning so that we could get to our next destination in time. The continental breakfast was lovely, and there is a great selection of wines from the local area at the Bar. I’d like to thank Gerry and all the staff at the Gumtree Guesthouse- you made our stay beautiful!

We thoroughly enjoyed our time in Oudtshoorn and loved our stay at Gumtree. It is very well-situated, close to many great restaurants and cafés in town. The rooms are very clean, spacious, airy, but also, air-conditioned, which is a must when it is 40 degrees outside! The gardens are beautiful and full of birds and there is a pool and plenty of outdoor seating if you want to relax and take it all in. We definitely could have spent another couple of days here. Gerry, one of your hosts, is the epitome of South African hospitality. He is so friendly and welcoming and you can tell that he wants his guests to have a great holiday. We appreciate the time he spent telling us all the best places to visit in the area and surrounds. It's fair to say that Gerry knows everything about everything. If you are unsure what ostrich farm to choose or what meerkat tour is the best, ask Gerry. Want the best place to try ostrich? Ask Gerry. As an added bonus, he makes a great breakfast.

This place is an absolute gem . The attention to detail is incredible, everything has been taken care of for the guests to feel like at home . the rooms are huge , they have a beautiful rustic look that instantly makes you feel cozy . The bathroom had all the amenities that we needed . The garden is immaculately looked after and the pool was clean and very inviting on such a hot day . To our surprise there was a bar at the guest house, we enjoyed tasting local wines and local ports and getting to know our host over a drink . Breakfast was superb, plentiful and delicious. The freshly baked bread was a bonus . Now the highlight of our stay was Jerry the owner . He is a wonderful man that puts every effort to make everyone feel welcome and comfortable at the guest house . His experience and hosting skills shine through, his shared his knowledge of the area , gave recommendations and even planned a driving route for us the next day . It was an exceptional stay at the Gumtree Guest House, and Gerry was the perfect host. I felt very welcomed! The house, terrace, and pool are well maintained, and it's all sparkling clean; complimentary coffee and tea in the room are also a big plus. But above all is the host: Gerry is a fun guy, very friendly, offers help with everything AND he is a great cook. I usually do not do breakfast, but I was so happy that I went: it was delicious food, and we had a good talk and laugh, and I went with loads of recommendations. Definitely recommended!

A lot of care was taken with the preparation of breakfast, cooked to order, and the fruit salad was attractively presented. Our host was very helpful and knowledgeable and steered us towards several places of interest which we would not have found on our own. We were quite happy to go back for a second night a few days later. Eating places for an evening meal and the main part of the town were within easy walking distance.

Depending on personal taste, the room could have been a little brighter or more colourful.

Cozy place. Well kept. Clean. Breakfast was very good. The host, Jerry, really looked after us. All amenities available. We did not go out, but were told a lot of eating places in walking distance. Private car parking available. It was a cold night. In the room, there was an electric blanket. So thoughtful. Had a comfortable 1 night. Jerry gave us a late check out. As we had gone for a very very early morning, Meerkat viewing.

Great place to stay in Oudtshoorn - all you need (and more) to feel comfortable in a very nice house with a warm welcome, a cosy pool & garden area, good breakfast and individual advice for your trips. Gerry is the perfect host. He has a lot of excellent recommendations on where to eat and what to do in the region; not only around Oudtshoorn but he also took the time to explain some of his favorite spots on our onward journey. We will come back next time - thank you Gerry - your recommendations all worked out perfectly well and we could profit a lot from your tips & hints!

Everything great!

Our stay at the Gumtree House was excellent. Gerry is such a great host, we loved to talk with him about the life in South Africa. He also called two restaurants for us that normally would not take reservations during the theatre festival Breakfast is superb and the room was comfortable and has everything you need. The pool was very refreshing cause the Karoo can get hot. Absolutely recommended! Thanks Gerry, hope to visit again.

During the annual theatre festival it can get noisy (at night) since the festival hub is very close (which is also a big plus!). With earplugs we slept good. This is only ones a year, otherwise very quiet place.

We arrived a little late after a long drive,Jerry quickly got us checked in,bags to our lovely room and a very welcome beer and gin and tonic.Jerry is a great owner, he’s engageing,friendly has great local knowledge and is a really nice guy.Our room was a really good size great facilities,amazing bath and shower.The grounds are lovely and mature just wish we had the time to use the swimming pool.Location is so convenient for a short walk to town where there are some really good restaurants.Breakfast was excellent great local produce and choices,home made bread what could be better.
