We have stayed here many times over the years. The hall is set in stunning grounds with a walled garden and topiary. There are walks around the hall and it’s a short walk to the village and a great pub. The rooms are well appointed for conference and student events with tea and coffee making facilities and basic toiletries. The breakfast offering ranged from the full English buffet which was nicely cooked to cereals toast etc There is a bar with bar meals served in the evening which we have used in the past.
We were surprised to receive an email two days before our stay advising the bar and catering services were not available on the Saturday night due to a function. This we felt was very short notice as the Gates Gala must have been arranged for some time. Our room was in a quiet area and the music stopped around 11pm so we were not too bothered by noise. However had we known there was an event with reduced services we would have stayed elsewhere.

The staff are friendly and helpful. The location is great especially if you want to go into Cambridge. The grounds are stunning and very peaceful. The place can look a bit rundown, but you get to stay in a very beautiful old building. Cleanliness is spot on and the beds are really comfortable. It is also a very quiet place and you can truly relax when there. They provide free parking and breakfast is included and delicious.
In the morning, the tables set up can be off-putting due to potentially having to be face-to-face with people you do not know. If I was travelling with someone else I might feel different about this, but I felt a bit anxious to have breakfast in that scenario, and skipped it one of the days.

Superb out of town location. Blissfully silent at night. Super bed, lovely extras and all you could need (hairdryer, iron, safe, fridge etc...). Breakfast was top class, staff were lovely, cafe on site a real boon. Historic location. Releaxed atmosphere. The negative reviews Madingley has received must surely have been left by terribly spoilt people. This is NOT a hotel...but it does behave like one. Incredible value for money. Spotlessly clean. Thank you.
Perhaps bathroom needed a small upgrade but perfectly servicable. Not a real issue. Lighting in bar was REALLY bright at night. Maybe dim lights in the evening?

The house and gardens were stunning. Felt privileged to be able to stay at this University of Cambridge property while we dropped our son off at his college. Staff all formally dressed in black waist coats and were all pleasant and helpful. Gave us a taste of Cambridge uni life! Breakfast in the grand dining room was excellent, and everything was of good quality and regularly replenished. Had excellent dinner at the Three Horseshoes just 5 mins away. Excellent value for money stay and we will now always use when visiting our son.
Yes the rooms were a little dated but beds were comfortable and this was more than made up by the stunning surroundings.

This is a beautiful old (16th Century) building in stunning grounds. The staff is very friendly and I was allowed to park my motorbike in a spot close to the entrance. My room was fine and had all one might need. Breakfast was good, and served in a wonderful old dining room. There is a bar on site that also has a small selection of evening food. I though that the rate was very reasonable.
There is no public transport into Cambridge from here. You need to have your own transport (but it is only a few minutes drive to the Park and Ride from where you can take the bus into the city).

The venue was a beautiful historical building. Full of character and style. The breakfast was amazing with veggie sausages available without special request required. The staff were very friendly and helpful.
There was a couple of doors en route to the room which had a step down at the door and although signposted I misjudged the second one and bashed my arm and hurt my leg thankfully not as badly as I could have. The step could benefit from a yellow hazard ⚠️ tape and I should have been paying more attention when walking along so do take some responsibility. I didn’t mention to the reception staff as more embarrassed than anything else. 🫣

A stunning building full of charm and history, surrounded by a beautifully landscaped, expansive garden – perfect for relaxing. If you've ever dreamed of staying in a historic college and enjoying breakfast in a rustic and characterful hall, this is the place for you! We were travelling with an electric car, and the hotel offers several 7kW charging stations – very convenient for overnight charging.
Minor downside: The breakfast wasn’t exactly to our taste (typically British), but it was sufficient. That said, it didn’t really affect our overall experience of this exceptional place.

Madingley Hall was a perfect choice, especially if you drive and prefer a countryside setting. The old-fashioned manor boasts stunning views and offers a peaceful retreat, just a 20-minute drive from Cambridge city centre. While the facilities have a traditional charm, they are very clean and tidy. The room provided everything I needed, including a fridge, hair dryer, iron, and TV. The staff were exceptionally professional and friendly, adding to the pleasant experience. One pleasant surprise was the ability to connect to eduroam, the university WiFi network, if you are a university student or staff member. This was a convenient alternative to the hotel WiFi. Breakfast was brilliant, offering a great start to each day. The common room is extensive and cosy, featuring a large TV. During my stay, which coincided with EURO 2024, guests gathered there to watch the matches, creating a very good vibe.
I encountered multiple instances of sudden low water pressure halfway through my shower, but completely understood that it's an old building,

The house and grounds are idyllic. Our room was warm and the bed extremely comfortable. The reception staff were very welcoming and friendly. Also got a big welcome from the HSBC team who were holding a conference and duly invited us to join them mentioning there was plenty of good. We politely declined.
The shower pressure was very low. The room would benefit from an additional lamp as only one available on one side of the bed and no plug socket on that side of the bed for charging my phone. The lad welcoming quests into the breakfast room could do with some training. A good morning and a smile wouldn't go amiss. I work in hospitality and all our staff are warm and welcoming some of whom are very young.

The setting was beautiful and the view from my room was great. It was comfortable and clean. Good choice at breakfast which included fresh fruit and veggie sausages. I was able to eat dinner there but there was only a limited choice for vegetarians. Helpful staff. Plenty of parking space.
The floodlights at night were very bright and were quite a negative feature. Perhaps motion activated ones or ones which were far more dim would have been better, at least on the inner courtyard. More choice of dinner options for vegetarians would be good. The TV was a bit small and difficult to see from the bed as the angle could not be adjusted.
