Extremely friendly, attentive, and supportive staff who enforced hostel rules. I was super impressed with a tall slim male staff, he is simply the best in customer service! Breakfast was great and having all day coffee and tea mins blowing. The outdoor common area exceptional hangout for meet and greet. The kitchen nice and loved the multiple spacious refrigerators are so appreciated Bathrooms spacious and clean. Bed are comfortable with the lights, so classy. The hostel has so many points of interest: books, instruments, free food and item section, tv with movies, you are allowed to drink and smoke are a few. Love the announcement in the speaker of activities and heads up reminders..:
When reminding or reminding informing customers or rules: pull them to side versus around others. You never know one’s back story, their trauma the open public correction may have a negative effect.

Everything here is great, and the sink in the room is really convenient. Most of the staff are friendly, happy, and helpful—except for an older cleaning lady. She never smiles and clearly doesn’t seem to like her job. Every day, when she cleans the room, she only wipes the sink and takes out the trash but never mops the floor. In contrast, a younger cleaning lady did a much better job—she cleaned thoroughly, covering every inch of the floor, and had good manners. Unlike the older cleaner, she made guests feel welcome. The older one, however, gave off the opposite vibe. Sometimes, even when I was still in my room, she would ask, “Are you leaving?” On the day I was actually checking out after a 10-day stay, I had already returned my key and just needed about 30 minutes to pack my luggage. However, she insisted that I move all my things immediately because she suddenly needed to mop the floor—something she had never bothered to do before. It was ridiculous. To make matters worse, she even threatened that I would have to pay extra if I didn’t comply. She acted as if she were the manager or owner of the hostel.

Unfortunately, this one woman ruined the otherwise good impression of the hostel. She clearly dislikes her job and does not treat customers well.

As a person who frequently stayed at hostels during my twenties, I was prepared to encounter what one might call an apocalypse, aka large groups of young adults speaking loudly, consuming alcohol, and partying. To my astonishment, this establishment was notably tranquil, and the majority of the guests were older adults exhibiting very respectful behavior. I acknowledge that this may be attributed to the time of year during which I visited, or merely a stroke of luck; however, I believe it is still worth highlighting. The room was well-maintained and reasonably priced within its bracket (I booked a private room/bunker bed). The overall property also maintained a clean appearance. Another pleasant surprise was the availability of beach towels for guests, along with shared supplies such as sunscreen, coolers, hats, and other beach-day amenities. The location of this hostel is exceptional! There is a grocery store literally across the street, and the entire block is populated with shops, liquor stores, and restaurants. All of this is within a five-minute walk to the beach and a twenty-minute walk to the Sunset View location. Should I return to the San Diego area, I will undoubtedly choose to stay here again. As a bonus tip, the coffee shop located immediately next to the hostel, Brew Wave Coffee, offers delightful coffee beverages and is staffed by the most friendly and helpful individuals!
My booking included "breakfast", which typically raises expectations for a full meal, but in this case, it was more of a Coffee & Tea station.

The facilities were excellent! Very clean, well appointed. Really cool patio to hang out in and meet other guests. The staff was amazing...above and beyond helpful. The location cannot be beat. It's literally steps to everything, so you don't need a car if you are just staying in the area. The free coffee and light breakfast was much appreciated as fuel for all the hiking I did. The room was sufficiently large. The bed was comfortable, and I really appreciated that they provided bedding. Already looking forward to my next time there.
Nothing! I loved everything about it. Especially how helpful the staff is.

My daughter Sara stayed in Ob at the hostel and she really enjoyed it! Perfect location and super good vibes. I will remember forever the breakfast we received for thanksgiving day. Thank you guys!
I needed to make my own bed, there was just hand soap and not shampoo and bathwash dispenser. I attended a situation when one of the staff was very rude to one guest and was not very enjoyable, the same staff guy also envaded a bit my space, i was obviously for the last night alone in my dorm, and before check out time he came to check if i was leaving. Probably because the day before another person was still in bed at 11 am and did not communicate anything. But i usually respect this fact because i am a host of airbnbs in italy so i know a bit all the rules

I have stayed at Samesun OB about 10-12 times over the past 8 years. Usually for 1-3 nights. I like all the staff. Brandon is an especially good manager and good man. Fernanda and Yolanda are always at it cleaning away and are nice people to say hello to when I stop by. The other managers do a good job of keeping a solid presence at the front desk and are often doing other staff chores. It is a good team overall. Guests are usually respectful and happy to be there. Rarely there are issues with guests be disrespectful or the like. breakfasts too add to the high rating

The coffee + waffles provided in the morning was a really nice touch! The rooms and bathrooms were very thoroughly cleaned. It was fun to be near the beach and in such a walkable area with lots of good food + shops!
The parking situation is very tricky; we had to spend 15-20 minutes each night when coming back from our day's activities trying to find a spot in a residential area that we could park overnight. I know this isn't the fault of the hostel's with no parking lot specific to them, but it did make things a little difficult.

Very spacious and clean, loved the colors and art. Lots of places to lounge and socialize inside and outside. Located right by OB and the farmers market was great to check out! Also not too far of a walk from sunset cliffs. There’s a bus stop right nearby so that’s convenient. Surfing rental was cheap and you can get wetsuits from across the street for a discount. Free breakfast was a plus.
Wish they had curtains for the beds, but it isn’t too bad. Having extra sink space for the kitchen could be helpful. I also wish they had their hostel events coordinator since that’s what I was looking forward to the most as a solo traveler: bonfires/music, beach volleyball, walking tours, yoga, etc to socialize with other hostel guests

Awesome hostel! Friends are super friendly and helpful. I especially appreciate the help from Kathleen, Mark, Erik etc. The hostel is clean and has both shared and private restrooms. The common area is cool and great place to socialize. I especially like the patio area. The breakfast is light but does the trick--there're waffles, oatmeal, hot coffee, oranges and energy bar. I only need the energy bar and a sip of coffee before heading off to surf so it's perfect. Will definitely be back!
I heard the curtain is in progress so that's great news! The only thing is, if the fan in the room could be more quiet that would be amazing.

I am 55 years old and my partner is 60. We usually don't chose a hostel to stay during out travels. I was very pleased with the professionalism this place is run. Loved the display of art and the supply of all sorts of equipment to use/rent. This includes surf boards, wet suits. I saw skate boards, bicycles, etc.. The house provides for everything and if something is missing you can just cross the street. There is a convenient store with healthy foot options. The location is the best, walk distance to the beach, shopping, eating and partying. Street parking was easy. I will certainly be back.
Since this is a huge place, it would be helpful if the night had more than one staffer.
