Very well located right on the Hermanus Cliff Path which you can access via a gate. Perfect view out from the rooms for whale watching, etc.

The cleaning staff don't seem to check the rooms that thoroughly. 3 of the 4 windows in the bathroom must have been left out by the window cleaners and were very dirty, although all in the bedroom were very clean. Shower gel was empty so obviously hadn't been checked. A tea-bag was left in the kettle so also not checked. Our used wine-glasses weren't cleaned or cleared away. There is no way to tell which coffee pods are de-caffeinated. The location and view more than made up for these minor shortcomings and the staff were very helpful and quick to resolve when we pointed out the problems.

What an exceptional place to stay in Hermanus! The views from both the room and the main terrace are absolutely stunning, creating the perfect setting for a relaxing getaway. From the moment we arrived, we were greeted with a warm welcome, and the check-in process was quick and effortless. The service is truly five-star—Jocelyn and Ansley go above and beyond to ensure every guest feels at home. Nothing is too much trouble for them, and their attention to detail is remarkable. The rooms are spacious, beautifully decorated, and equipped with everything you could possibly need. We particularly appreciated the thoughtful extras, like the honesty bar both in the room and by the pool, as well as the availability of beach towels and foldable seats for outings. We also had the privilege of enjoying a fantastic Christmas dinner and lunch prepared by a talented local chef, which made our stay even more special. This property is an absolute gem and comes highly recommended. If you’re looking for a luxurious, welcoming, and unforgettable stay in Hermanus, this is the place to be!

We experienced three nights of pure bliss at Abalone Guest House. Our initial welcome by Ansley and his continual charm and hospitality throughout our stay made us feel like nothing was too much trouble. The whole team were so professional and only too willing to make our stay extra special. The room overlooking the fynbos, sea and mountains was mesmerising, internally it was complete luxury. I loved the location which allowed access to 12km of costal path 40 minutes into Hermanus - just spectacular scenery. A special shout out to the breakfast team who prepared an absolute feast and the most perfect Walker Bay Breakfast! Thank you all, we can’t wait to return.

Abalone Guest Lodge was one of the highlight places we stayed during our two week trip to South Africa. Ansley and his team did a wonderful job of making us feel so welcome during our two night stay. The room was huge and super clean, with a wonderful sea view- having a cuppa on the balcony and watching the whales was an unforgettable experience. The team also provided a few nice extras to help us celebrate our honeymoon in style which we really appreciated. The breakfasts made to order were absolutely superb, the decor throughout the property was beautiful and we loved being able to relax at the lodge and enjoy the pool and sauna. The guest lodge is right on the cliff path which we used to walk in to Hermanus (30-40 mins walk) and explore the beaches in the opposite direction and it was easy to get taxis back from town after dinner. We would highly recommend Abalone Guest Lodge for your stay in Hermanus.

The breakfast was excellent thank you. There was plenty of choice and everything was fresh. We didn’t sample the hot breakfast but everything else was great

The dinner. We opted to eat at the hotel where a chef comes in to cook a few times a week. We booked dinner for 6.30 but actually everybody was served at the same time and we ended up eating at 7.30 which was later than we would have liked. We were not offered all the choices on the menu. The crayfish starter was very good and the dessert platter was good. The main course (I had fish which was overcooked and my husband had steak which was tough) was poor.

We had a gorgeous dual aspect room looking towards the sea with good views of the coastline. The room was large and comfortable, the staff were welcoming and friendly. I had an excellent massage at the spa.

Be aware that it is quite a trek to walk into Hermanus. Perfectly do-able, but a walk. The bathroom let a lot of light into the bedroom in the morning because it has a glass door. Breakfast was fine, but incredibly slow service the first day and not as amazing as other reviews suggested.

A beautiful choice in Hermanus. Abalone was the perfect location for whale watching from the balcony! We especially loved the coastal walk which you can join just a few moments walk from the guest house. A little way out of town, but very easy to order Ubers at night. A special mention to Ainsley who was wonderful - from welcoming us so warmly, to recommending activities & restaurants to even helping us post our postcards - we will be back!

No complaints, everything was perfect.

Luxurious, spacious, very clean and well kept 5star accommodation in Hermanus with stunning views and super friendly and attentive experienced staff. We had an amazing time! Nothing left to be desired here. The pool was great and so was the plentiful breakfast spread as well as the lovely spa. Also loved the direct access to the coastal path - great for a walk, whale watching or a nice 5-10k morning run. Everything about this places makes you feel at home. There are so many extra touches to make your stay more comfortable. A variety of board games, comfy sofas to lounge on, reading material, plenty pool towels and a superb honesty bar to name a few. Breakfast is exemplary with a huge choice of fruit, breads, meat, juice and a cooked choice.

The one and only thing I would change about this place is the pillows. They have very little ‘stuffing’ left in them or are poor quality pillows. Not comfortable at all.

Apart from the facilities being cut above, guests are well looked after with Ansley and staff always available for any request or assistance - suggestions for dinner ánd making the booking to ensure you get the best seat available. We had a short notice booking following the weather storms which happened to be on my husband's birthday. What a surprise to find a chalk board congratulations with a cake, candle, balloons and bubbly! Breakfast caters for any tast budd or foodie with various health options also on offer - e.g. 6 or 7 juices and smoothies. Abalone found the perfect balance between elegance and being home away from home. This would be our first choice on a return visit. Thank you Ansley and staff!
