Really well organized with fantastic staff. The place is clean and the restaurant attached was great. The toilets are upstairs but there are no sinks. Sinks are in the shower room downstairs. We stayed in the 2 bedroom suite. You definitely need ear plugs as it can get a bit loud when the hostel is full. But once we had ear plugs in, we slept really well. The beds are very comfortable. You have to reserve the shuttle in advance and the times are limited, but with a little planning, it wasn’t a problem for us. We took the 8 AM and 4 PM shuttle almost daily and ate at the restaurant here. We visited Rusutsu for the riding, not to party or dine out extravagantly, so it worked perfectly for us. The staff are all wonderful. Kou, Ota, Katsuki, and Chiho took great care of us during our entire stay. The dry room for our gear was perfect and hot so we woke up to dry gear every morning. If they had sinks attached to the upstairs toilets, we would have given them a perfect rating!
Wish there were sinks upstairs with the toilets!

Japan is one of a very small number of countries where I consider hostel-style accommodations. The Grand Cabin Rusutsu did not disappoint. I stayed in their shared room, in the style of a simple capsule hotel, with shared bathrooms and other facilities (there are also 'private' rooms but I believe they all share the common facilities). The capsule is quite private, with your own individual blind, a light, one 110V and one USB (A) socket; see attached photo. Shared facilties are impeccably clean (no idea how they do that). Surprisingly, although I was in a room with 19 other people, everybody was extremely polite and considerate. Most of the time you barely heard that there were other people around. The staff is very nice and friendly. Shuttle goes 3 times in the morning to Rusutsu resort (8,9,10am) and back 3 times back (I always took the first one, at 4pm, not sure about the other times). The Lawson conbini 2 minutes away is super convenient for food etc. There is a restaurant on the first floor which is open to the public. This is the 'grill your own meat' style. I tried it once and it was OK. I was the oldest guest (by quite a margin) but I did not feel out of place. Had nice conversations with some of the others, about half from Asia (various countries) and the other half Westerners (Aussies, Canadians and a single American). Costwise, it is an enormous bargain compared to the Resort itself. In particular of course for solo travelers. If I come back to Rusutsu I will for sure stay there again!

The staff were amazing and went above and beyond to help when we needed it. The location was great being close to a cute little town with some great restaurants that the staff were happy to help book with a 7/11 and a Lawsons within walking distance.
The only small piece of feedback would be having some form of shelving or benches in the rooms to help with luggage storage and organisation of clothes during the stay.

A very satisfying experience, it is an excellent choice for solo travelers. The place is clean, and the staff are polite and helpful, creating a warm atmosphere. The barbecue at the on-site restaurant is very delicious, allowing you to recharge after a day of skiing. I would definitely recommend it to others.
There is nothing I dislike.

Not a far walk to the Lawson and into Kimobetsu. Getting to and from the resort was not an issue. Staff were very helpful and accommodating for getting us around even if inconvenient. Drying room works well so we didn’t have to worry about wet gear.
The dorm beds were a bit hard, we only stayed 2 nights but probably would have done better had we managed to book a private room early enough. Could be a better system for guests to put away their own dishes so tables in the restaurant/ combined common area stay a bit cleaner with people coming and going.

Great location, friendly staff, clean facilities. Definitely would stay again
The mattresses could definitely be a bit thicker - a bit hard going for a bigger person. The larger communal kitchen area is only open in the afternoons - think it would be better if it was open in the mornings. But there's a smaller kitchen area available to use

Friendly staff and a great free shuttle service to go to the resort. It's also good that there is a restaurant at the accommodation for dinner and it's only a short walk to Lawson's convenience store for extra drinks, snacks or breakfast.
I didn't use all the extra facilities of the external common area, footbath and tent sauna because they were out the backdoor. I should've explored these better or asked about them more

Staff is friendly and helpful. The shuttle bus service is great!
not a criticism but rather something for further improvement - it would be great to have a much bigger bin - during meal time, rubbish just overflows. it would also be good to add a kitchen sink (maybe in the laundry room) to allow guests to tip out liquid waste and wash utensils where necessary.

It was clean and cozy. The staff was really nice and helpful. There’s a fridge, microwave to bring your own food. The common space was nice, a good place to hang out after a big day riding. The shuttles to the mountain work out really well and very handy. There’s all the convini walking distance. Was very lucky to have a great crew solo travelers as well and end up riding and having lots of fun
They close the common area at 10 and there’s no wifi.

Location and staff were good. Shuttle to the ski resort was a great free perk. Good kitchen facilities and laundry was easy to use and inexpensive. Great gear drying area for equipment. Best water pressure ever.
The property is a bit awkward in its layout but it works. The mattresses could be a bit better.
