convenient onsen was really good Owner super helpful
Cold Didn’t like the kerosene heater as there’s the fear of carbon monoxide so only used it while awake …better if it’s an electic heater even if it costs more

The guesthouse was in a great location, right by the Sawando bus terminal and the foot onsen, as well as a couple of local hiking trails. The hosts were kind and helpful, and even shared some postcards with us. We stayed in a triple room, which was a bit dusty but very comfortable overall. The outdoor onsen (available to use at any time) was really nice and very hot! While there weren't any restaurants or stores open in the area in the off season (we were there in mid-April), there was a convenience store in the guesthouse with snacks, cup noodles, and drinks. Would definitely recommend this place for anyone who wants a good value stay with easy access to Kamikochi!

We had a lovely stay at guesthouse tomoshibi. The owners were very kind and looked after us with a delicious dinner overlooking the mountains. It was a very homely experience and good value for a very expensive area. Great location for Sawando bus station (2 min walk) which has regular direct buses to Kamikochi, Matsumoto and Takayama, We absolutely loved our experience and would definitely worth paying to include the meal (one option and contains meat).
Very traditional old building so noise does travel if you are a light sleeper and other guests are noisy. In springtime the rooms were quite chilly at night but there was a gas heater available for use.

The old couple that runs the guesthouse are great people. Little English but Google Translate helps. They will even explain how to eat the Japanese dishes. The rooms are cozy, the onsen is very nice (although a bit hot at times) and the Guesthouse is very close to the Sawado bus terminal. The surrounding area is beautiful and Kamikochi is half an hour by bus. All in all a great experience.

Very nice place ! People there were very nice and very helpfull , the onsen was great ! We enjoyed a lot the time spending there ! The dinners were very good , a lot of food ! Furthermore, it is very close to the bus station where you can easy take a bus to kamikochi ( 30 min ) .. or to others destinations.

Amazing guesthouse in a wonderful location. The rooms have a specific style reminiscent of old Japanese style. First time sleeping on a tatami, it feels like in a movie. There's also a little Onsen included for 300¥ extra. It's a great accommodation after returning from a day hiking in Kamikochi. The personnel are very kind and do their best to accommodate any request. Mind that it's a small mountain village at the gate of a national park, so plan your timetable wisely.
I'd have preferred to have at more than just one option for dinner.

Tomoshibi was one of our favourite places to stay in one month Japan. There is not much to do in Sawando onsen but it is a perfect place to stay after spending the day in Kamikochi. Run by an old couple, it is a traditional style guesthouse. Tatami rooms, shared bathrooms and an onsen. If you stay, definitely order dinner as well. She made us a very tasty sukiyaki, which we were served outside in front of the guesthouse.

The feeling of staying in a traditional mountain guesthouse and receiving a warm welcome by the owners. We had an amazing sumiyaki dinner after a long trekking day and was just delicious. The onsen is small and simple but very clean and cozy. We were delighted by the hosts kindness and smiles. Defenetly recommended

Hot spring was amazing, and the owner gave me a wonderful dinner of heated meat and vegetables. Property was right next to Sawando bus station but still had a rural feel and an excellent view of the mountains. I loved sitting at night time at the front, with a beer, watching the rain and mist move across the mountains.
