Really liked our stay at Rinn Shijo, it’s in a perfect location next to so many bars and restaurants and close enough to Gion and Pontocho and there is also a subway really close by to get you to most of the main sites. It is about 40 minutes on foot from Kyoto Station but luckily the reception office to drop off your bags is nearby and they courier them for you so that was super useful so we could continue with our day. The machiya has everything you should need for your stay, and was really comfortable. The stairs are steep but I wouldn’t overly say so and if you watch your step you’ll be absolutely fine. The outdoors area is really lovely and a nice touch to enjoy a drink.

It is quite loud as the windows are very thin, and it does let a reasonable amount of light in even throughout the night but I didn’t lose sleep and you can’t change this due to the nature of the property.

A unique property on a stream minutes from bars, restaurants, shopping, a train station, and taxi pick ups. Mini-split air conditioning upstairs and downstairs. Room felt "very Japanese" which is fun for a foreigner.

It is a compact space with a steep staircase to the bedroom which is probably best suited for smaller and/or younger travelers. There is the occasional loud motorbike or loud tourist passing by at night, and some light coming in from a streetlight.

Such a beautiful traditional house. It is in walking distance of most if kyotos sights. If you use the shijo Kyoto station it’s a simple 2 stops to Kyoto. The staff do warn you that it can be a little noisy and a little on the light side. This comes with the joy of staying here. Wear an eye mask and you will be fine. The internal steps are steep but once you master them it’s a piece of cake. The little deck out the back is fun to sit on and watch the world go by

Location is excellent, can stroll to restaurants and bars and walking distance to Yasaka pagoda and Kiyomizu-dera. The traditional house is gorgeous and the little canal is peaceful.

Traditional pillows are a little hard. Kitchenette lacked basic cutlery. Yes the street lights shine in but this is disclosed by the property. We just wore an eyemask. The house and the location make up for any minor inconvenience.

This is a traditional Machiya in Kyoto, it’s well equipped and there is plenty of space for two people, the bedroom is on the first floor while the bathroom with shower and toilet are on ground floor. I particularly liked the availability of space, the location, and the light.

many windows do not have double glass or the wall isolation is particularly weak, so there is hardly any noise isolation. This means that you eat cars as if you were on directly on the street and renovation work noises are particularly annoying in the morning. The cleaning was also not great as underneath the bed there was a lot of dust.

A great, small traditional house in a nice Kyoto district. I loved the Rinn staff, they were very helpful and did a great job explaining everything and getting us to the location. Loved everything about our stay.

The staff explained the regulation of accommodating in the Kyoto Machiya clearly and also shared the digital file for later use in need. Don't need to worry about the language barrier if you are speak in Chinese.

Position next to the canal, size -plenty of space, decor, bath, kitchen great final accommodation.

The streets around were a little noisy at night. Ear plugs and eye mask made it fine.

Centrally located near the heart of Kyoto. Love the atmosphere there. Love the surroundings. Would love to stay again.

Bathroom only on the 1st floor. But no option because the machiya was built that way.

location was amazing. the traditional townhouse was beautiful. staff was super helpful and courteous.

a little small but not uncomfortable, there is also a light that shines directly into the bedroom until around 11pm/12am.
