(Please note I speak Japanese) The staff are wonderfully kind and accommodating. We had no issues checking in/dropping our bags off early (very helpful due to the ferry schedule), and he went out of his way to give us recommendations for places to eat, even helping us make a reservation (which likely wasn't strictly needed, but we were very grateful nonetheless). They also provide a simple, hearty breakfast in the morning. The facilities are just what you expect from a guest house, which did mean sharing one bathroom and shower among all the guests––which was not a problem. The location was also fairly convenient for our needs: it's right off of a bus stop and is a very short walk to the Honmura port (from which we took an early commuter ferry back to Uno; note that we did enter Naoshima and leave for a day trip to Teshima via the Miyanoura port, which was a short bus ride or ~30 minute walk away). Overall, especially considering the limitations of staying on an island, we were pleased with this stay!

If you're looking for a luxury experience, this may not align with your expectations. It's a quintessential island/rustic guest house experience that worked great on a budget.

This accomodation was exceptionally cheap and therefore so worth our money. The breakfast was as tasty and made you full which is perfect when wanting to use your whole day for exploring the museums on Naoshima. The host was friendly and even brought me some extra futons, when I asked for some. The location is amazing and right next to several of the art houses. You can also reach Chichu within 10 minutes by bike. The room was also quite spacious, even had a small TV.

The host was very difficult to reach. Unfortunately they didn't take our phone calls and only sometimes replied to messages. The bathroom has a problem with mold.

The location is right in the heart of Honmura Port Village, close to the bus stop and various restaurants. The house is quite old, but the bedroom was clean and acceptable. We got a corner room with windows on two sides — bright and very comfortable. The price was reasonable and not expensive. The restaurant, which seems to be part of the ryokan, is located across the street and serves good-quality set lunch meals, though the price might be slightly on the higher side.

Since the house is quite old, the facilities and bathroom may look a bit dated and not very convenient, but it’s not terrible. The staff didn’t seem very welcoming, which might be due to language barriers as their English wasn’t very strong. The staircase is also quite steep, so it might be inconvenient if you have heavy luggage.

Location was good, in the middle of Honmura central, and for a good price, they have a nutricious and filling (vegan) breakfast. Their restaurant across is also recommended. The place is clean, and the owners/staff friendly. They were flexible in us wanting to check in our luggage early, so that was really nice too.

We are still not always used to futons, but we had enough for 3 in the room (with us being with 2) so we used the extra futon material to bring some extra comfort. This is not criticism, but it was nice we had them in the room to adjust our bedding situation.

My host Chikara blew me away with his hospitality. I arrived late in the evening to find all restaurants opened fully book yet he managed to find one that was opened and walked me to it. The guesthouse was super clean and yes there's some slight mildew in the shower facilities but that is to be expected in this type of island weather conditions. I organised a daily breakfast of creamy miso soup, onigiri, pickels which was scrumptious and delicious, a nice way to kick star the day. Don't forget to check out Asunao Restaurant across from the guest house. Chikara is also the chef there and there food is amazing! Thank you for your kindness and hospitality, Chikara.

Keep it up

The staff were really nice. They run a vegan restaurant across the road which has delicious lunch sets, and the breakfast they provide at the guest house can also be vegan. The guest house is located in a convenient place in Honmura, in a nice traditional house.

The price seemed a bit expensive for the level of comfort (shared bathroom, shared space with no AC — although there was AC and sitting space at the bedroom). The guest house has a kitchen, but there are no stove or kitchen utensils, only some bowls, a microwave and coffee-making facilities. Given I am a vegan and there were no places I could eat in the evening during low season when we visited, it would have been nice to be able to cook.

The room was big and spacious and very clean! Had everything you needed and the owner was so kind and helpful and helped to inform where was open/closed for dinner and then booked places for you each night! The location is perfect and can easily get from one end of town to another with the town bus that has a stop 2 minutes from the guesthouse

There was just 1 shared toilet for everyone but didn’t cause much of an issue.

The guest house was a very beautiful traditional guest house but also cosy. The staff were incredible and so welcoming and so helpful. The location is amazing - you can walk very easily to the Ando museum and to a small shop to rent an electric bicycle to get around the island. The guest house is also right near a bus stop from the main ferry terminal. The surrounding town is breathtaking. I felt so lucky as the head staff member and their family invited me to dinner with them and we had the most beautiful evening! It was truly one of the best nights of my entire trip (probably one of my most memorable and lovely nights I've ever had travelling) and I'll remember it forever. I highly recommend staying at this guest house!

We loved staying in Honmura - quiet and access to everything. Art houses, bike hire (TVC - just text the number on the wall and they will meet you), the museums, greet coffee and restaurants. Easy buses and ferries to other areas. This accommodation was great and the host very hospitable. The breakfast was good, we wrapped it up and took it on our adventures. We stayed in winter and found that the room was well heated. We had to double up our bedding for comfort and warmth.

The host Chikara san is a really great man. He helped me a lot when I got lost and couldn't catch the ferry. I felt that any time of my presence there I could rely on him and be safe. When I came to the hotel, he guided me and recommended good restaurants, he personally prefers, and the one I chose met my expectations. I would recommend this place only because of the host!

The rooms and a house could be refreshed a bit.
