I stayed at the Miyajima Grand Arimoto Hotel. I booked a private onsen with a view of Miyajima, which was absolutely beautiful. I really appreciated that they picked up our luggage, included breakfast, and had the best staff. I also spent some time in the lounge while it rained outside, and it was incredibly peaceful.
What I didn't like was how difficult it was to understand which rooms included meals and which ones didn’t. I saw a YouTube video of a couple having dinner in a private room, and it looked like a great experience. It would have been helpful if the listing on Booking.com had a clearer description. We definitely would have paid for it if we had known. Instead, we received a notice three days before the trip saying dinner was unavailable because the dining room was full.

The dinner was amazing, the staff extremely nice. Our room had a beautiful view on the mountains. The onsen was super nice, with an inside and an outside bath. We had booked a big room and were not disappointed! It is in the main area but super quiet. Would highly recommend.

Excellent choice. The location is great; it can be reached by foot in around 10-15mins walking from the ferry port or you can call them before boarding the ferry and they can pick you (also they can take you to the port after check out). The room was charming and very quiet, with a nice view to the mountain. If you're visiting Hiroshima, staying in Miyajima is the best option. You can walk around the town and enjoy the different feelings when the streets are empty at noon. The manager Taka is absolutely kind and an awesome host. When we return to Miyajima we will stay there again.

It was what was expected from a high end traditional Japanese inn. Food was excellent, and the service was really kind and they were friendly and doing their best to explain as much of the facility as they could. This is a very beautiful traditional inn, and we really enjoyed the stay. The Hinoki wood in the room was a bonus, love the smell of that wood.
For the uninitiated, it will come across as too many rules, like three different pairs of slippers, when and where to wear Yukata and another set of pyjamas-like apparel in the room (no instructions in the room for those who might not be familiar). Windows are not totally tinted and only bamboo blinds shields one from the bath and the public, can be unnerving to some.

Our family - including two teenage boys - stayed in a very large suite with both traditional and Japanese sleeping areas (both very comfortable) with a beautiful view. It had plenty of space including two sitting areas that served four people well. Our standout experience at this property was the kaiseki dinner that was included in our stay (don't forget to choose this option when booking). The dinner and service provided by the very warm, attentive staff was beyond exceptional. I was not expecting such an extensive and unique culinary experience (as well as the kind servers who we engaged to explain how to properly eat it!) My family truly felt like royalty and we were honored to spend time at this property.

My wife wanted to stay a month! Everything was wonderful. We spent 3 weeks in Japan, mostly in Ryokans. The Miyajima Grand Hotel had the best rooms, baths and food we experienced anywhere. The hiking in Miyajima is great. And the town is awesome once the crowds clear out ... what an awesome experience.
The Booking.com listing is confusing - the rate quoted includes dinner and breakfast, but this was not clear at all. In fact, it says "continental breakfast available" - not sure that's correct. What is available is a "western" breakfast (if you don't want traditional Japanese). My only complain is with Booking.com - the hotel is self is wonderful. We had a room with two beds and one futon (for our son). It too was perfect.

It’s a beautiful onsen propery very well located in Miyajima. The view from our room was stunning, with the red torii gate peeking from behind the trees. The room was large and the yukata robes provided were beautiful:)
Unfortunately, we booked too late for a dinner reservation and the only option available was a box dinner and breakfast in our room. The food was delicious, but it would have been even better if we had the full dinner experience. The room amenities were good, and had the usual for a Japanese onsen - the hair brush, toothbrush, razor etc. I was surprised not to find any moisturizer in the room. It was available in the public bath. But not in our room. Also, there was just one towel for us to use for the public bath and for our room shower.

This was our first Ryokan experience and it was wonderful! We arrived a little before check-in and they offered us a cold drink as we were so sweaty from our walk in the heat. We could have taken the shuttle, but it didn't look far on the map. I highly recommend the shuttle (we took it when we left). The hotel decor is nice if a little dated, but I quite like the minimalist mid-century modern look so that was actually a plus for me. I had booked a traditional Japanese room which was lovely but quite uncomfortable for sleeping. Also, the room was not quite cool enough for us. So the next night, we requested a western room and it was magnificent! Huge with two beds, much cooler temp, beautiful view, luxury bathroom, and just a pleasure to stay in. They also provide you with Yukata (traditional robes) to wear around the hotel and I really enjoyed that. We used the public onsen and it was very relaxing with clean facilities. Dinner and breakfast was included. The traditional Japanese dinner on the first night was well done with an attentive server, but we eat a mostly vegetarian diet and found all of the seafood a bit much. So the next night, we opted to just go out and get our own dinner. (One thing to note is that the island pretty much closes after 5 when all the tourists leave so it's not great for dining options.) We chose the continental style breakfast for the two mornings we were there and it was very nice. The staff are very helpful and friendly. We don't speak Japanese, but they managed to help us with one staff member who does speak English and we used our phones to translate at other times.
Would have preferred something closer to the ferry terminal but the shuttle bus is complimentary, you just have to book it. We didn't like the traditional Japanese food, but that's just our preference and it was actually very gourmet and would have been thrilling for someone who likes that sort of thing. I'm glad we tried it though!

This is a beautiful hotel with wonderful staff. We loved the view from our room, the amenities, and the gift shop. However, due to timing (our issue not theirs) we didn’t get to use as much of the hotel amenities as we should have. So I can’t review as much as I would have liked. One major standout is the room perks. Our room had a tub on the balcony that was so great at the end of the day. The shampoo and stuff were from locctaine (sp?) and we got a trial set of a nightly face regime. It was like being at a spa! And they included a few of the local delicacy cookies/treats. The staff was so accommodating and we even got to do a luggage transfer through the gift shop that really helped us over the next few days after our stay.
We have learned in this trip that we are not Japanese food people. No one’s fault, but that meant the dinner and breakfast that were included were lost on us. And as the hotel says, there is not much on the island otherwise. So we got some snacks from Lawson and had a little picnic in the room. We also got a really nice room and they had a staff member that spoke English always available, but we kinda hated being checked on during meals all the time. So not their fault, but if you’re like us and don’t do well with being waited on, just be warned. If you like that, you’ll love this place! Last thing is the beds. Not that comfy from a US perspective. But kinda normal from what we have seen in Japan.

Beautiful room; epitome of Japanese hospitality from the moment of arriving on the island at the Peace Ferry (no idea how they knew we'd be arriving because we didn't even have a chance to ring them in sufficient time to advise them of our pending arrival), where they whisked us up the mountain to our room, escorted us in, showed us the lounge, and then delivered dinner to our room. It was beautiful and a magical stay after the tourists had departed the island - we especially loved being able to walk around the island at night in our provided Yukatas. Most amazing stay in Japan.
