The location was the reason I picked it as it was close to the waterfront and smith st mall. I liked that it had a communal kitchen and laundry so I could save money by cooking my own food and had a place to wash my laundry. Only having to walk a few steps to the bar area to have a beer and enjoy live music was also a plus. Also, the room had a nice big fridge to store food rather than those annoying minibars you usually find in hotel rooms.

I didn’t like that the curtains didn’t fully block out light. Some guests would make a lot of noise in the kitchen past 11pm which was directly underneath the room I was in.

Nice dorm, which actually consists of two rooms with the bathroom in between. Pool was nice too, just the water could be cooler, but I guess that is a problem anywhere in Darwin. The kitchen was equipped with the basics and you get toiletries, which was a nice touch.

Two small things to consider, but definitly no deal-breakers: The bar is right next to the dorm and you can hear the music until around 10 or 11pm. But if you have earplugs or go to bed later then that, it's not a problem. Same goes for the gate to enter the rest of the hotel which just cannot be closed silently. If you are looking for a very social hostel, this might not be the right fit for you: there is only the one female dorm and not much going on in the kitchen.

Really great value for what you get for a hostel dorm bed!! The place is a hotel first and foremost then has one female dorm room but you get a huge space to yourself, no bunk beds, multiple towels and toiletries, and it’s generally super cute and homey. Kitchen was massive and always immaculate condition and being that it was a hotel, almost always empty. Pool also huge and really beautiful, also kept up well and tons of nice seating/lounge areas (even better than the photos). Staff were always super kind and helpful and genuinely cared if you had an issue. Live music basically every night but always done by 10pm and it actually created a really lovely atmosphere, this place is basically an institution in Darwin so everyone comes out to have a good time! Location cannot be beat!!

Wifi was terribleee in basically every part of the place but did not reach the kitchen at all, really unfortunate for people trying to work online, it was actually pretty much impossible to do so. Also, some food items of mine got taken from the fridge despite being labelled so only thing I could suggest is a camera pointed at fridge area? Quick fix but probably will prevent that issue in future. If you’re looking for a social dorm this is not it at all with some guests being there for basically the foreseeable future and no interest in socializing but really great if you want to relax!

The hotel has a great vibe. I loved the evening live music, the big clean swimming pool, lounges and pool towels easily accessible, the bar areas and the staff. My room was cleaned everyday and clean towels if needed. The kitchen is good to have available. I am a mature age person and I found it safe and relaxing. The music finished at 10pm and things became quite not long after.

Great location, easy walking to restaurants and the centre of town. The ladies in reception kindly changed our booking to a room on the ground floor as the property had no lift and I didn't request this upon making my reservation. We chose the Cavanagh for a short stay so that we could have a rest in the afternoon before taking the red eye 1.30 am flight to Sydney. We had come off a cruise in the morning and they stored our bags while we explored until our room was ready when we returned at 1.30 pm.

My bad.....Sunday is party afternoon with live music which actually wasn't that loud but did disrupt our plans for a quiet nap. Just something to know if staying here on a Sunday.

The property is in a central area with everything you need within walking distance. The facilities in the room are aged but they are clean and good order. The bedding is comfortable and clean and all the necessities such as toiletries and coffee are provided. The fact there is a proper working, full sized fridge is FANTASTIC as I travel with goods for work that require both a freezer and a fridge. The food is fabulous. The staff are top quality. They are friendly, helpful and easy to find. All around a great place to stay. I have stayed many times and will stay many times more.

I’ll preface this by saying that I travel alone for work so this isn’t relevant for me- I wouldn’t recommend staying here with kids. The facilities aren’t really those that lend themselves as entertainment for young ones and the pub is rather loud at night. Again- the noise doesn’t bother me at all but I wouldn’t recommend this place as a family get away property :)

The room was basic but with a magnificent bed. The location of the Hotel made it a breeze to explore Darwin and the quality of the food was exceptional! The staff were also amazingly friendly and helpful!

The live bands were right under our room, so it was noisy every night until midnight, and then at 7am the machines started up on the building site next door (right behind our room)….if you don’t want a lot of sleep, then this is the place for you….the bands played excellent music thankfully!

The shared female dorm was very comfortable and had everything you need, plenty of fridge space in the room, kettle etc, but also - you could get fresh towels every day if you needed it. Toiletries refilled every day. Have never stayed at a dorm or a hostel type of accommodation that feels like a hotel :)

There was actually nothing that I wasn’t pleased with!

The staff were so friendly and down to earth and accommodating. Absolutely loved my experience here. The pool is awesome and the food and vibe is great. Went here for an anniversary and we honestly felt so good staying here. I cannot say enough how amazing the staff here and the friendliness of people. The Friday night live music was amazing and great fun.

Room was small but it's awesome for what it is. Serviced everyday which was fantastic. Great views of the pool.

I really liked my ladies room, air-conditioned, respectful people, nice beds, fridge in room and bathroom. I liked that they have this lovely swimmingpool (it is not for cooling down though, Darwin waters are warm). One specific staff member is soo lovely!

The ladies room is right next to the bar area outside of the security gate. I didn't have any problems but just know this and that there is music every evening until 22:30 but nice music! The blinds have a thick dust layer :/.. The kitchen is not the most inviting but it serves its purpose:)
